Taliban Hangs Bodies in Public as Sharia Law Returns to Afghanistan

The Taliban is making good on its promise to impose the Islamic law on Afghanistan. Days after a senior Taliban leader vowed to bring back Sharia-mandated punishments — such as stoning, amputation, and execution — to the country, the Islamist terror militia has hanged the bodies of four men in the western Afghan city of Herat.

The men, accused of the crime of kidnapping, were reportedly killed in a gun battle. There dead bodies were hung from cranes and displayed on busy squares across the city, the BBC reported on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Taliban’s co-founder Mullah Nooruddin Turabi vowed to implement the Sharia law in its entirety on the newly-declared Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. “No one will tell us what our laws should be. We will follow Islam and we will make our laws on the Quran,” the Mullah declared.

The Associated Press reported Taliban’s latest act of barbarity:

The Taliban hanged a dead body from a crane parked in a city square in Afghanistan on Saturday in a gruesome display that signaled the hard-line movement’s return to some of its brutal tactics of the past.Taliban officials initially brought four bodies to the central square in the western city of Herat, then moved three of them to other parts of the city for public display, said Wazir Ahmad Seddiqi, who runs a pharmacy on the edge of the square.Taliban officials announced that the four were caught taking part in a kidnapping earlier Saturday and were killed by police, Seddiqi said. Ziaulhaq Jalali, a Taliban-appointed district police chief in Herat, said later that Taliban members rescued a father and son who had been abducted by four kidnappers after an exchange of gunfire. He said a Taliban fighter and a civilian were wounded by the kidnappers, and that the kidnappers were killed in crossfire. An Associated Press video showed crowds gathering around the crane and peering up at the body as some men chanted.

Mullah Turabi, who oversaw the Taliban’s previous reign of terror as its chief Sharia enforcer, had talked of carrying out amputations and executions away from the public eye — perhaps as a sign of Taliban’s newly-found ‘moderation.’ The gruesome display in Herat shows that the Taliban has no intention of mellowing as they establish Islamic rule in Afghanistan, dashing the hopes of many in the mainstream media and Liberal Western establishment.

News reports indicate that the Taliban is busy creating an Islamic state in Afghanistan. The regime is headed by the Supreme Leader Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada, a title identical with the Iran’s all-powerful Ayatollah. In line with the Iranian regime, the Afghan Islamic Emirate is being run by handpicked Muslim clerics and jihadis. Many of them served under the previous Taliban regime and have links to the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda.

The Taliban is also tightening its control of the Afghan population. The regime announced that it is changing Afghan passports and national identity cards. “The Khaama Press News Agency reported citing Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban deputy minister of information and culture and the spokesperson, that it is possible that Afghan passports and NIDs to have the name “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” in them. Mujahid,” The Indian newspaper Hindustan Times reported on Sunday.
