Your favorite political and law blog is now on Telegram.

What’s Telegram, you ask? It’s a messaging app that offers end-to-end encryption, making it somewhat more private and secure than other social media platforms and messaging apps. Even better, there are no Big Tech overlords just waiting to de-platform  speech they don’t like.

You’ve certainly noticed The Great Disappearing of conservatives from popular sites like Facebook and Twitter. They were either forced off because they dared to have an opinion outside the mainstream or they left willingly, leaving the toxic cesspools behind. Many of them have opted to use apps like Telegram to stay in touch with likeminded folks or to follow their favorite news sources.

That’s one of the reasons we’re adding Telegram to our toolbox — we want to keep in touch with those of you who’ve rather wisely vacated social media. We’ll still be on Twitter, Facebook, Parler and Instagram — for now — and we’ll still be sending out our daily newsletter. Telegram gives us an additional direct connection to our readers and supporters.

Let’s be honest, we also need to have a Plan B for if/when we’re forced off mainstream platforms. A recent report from Freedom House shows that internet freedom in the U.S. declined last year for the fifth consecutive year, with America falling out of the top ten ranking for global internet freedom.

Things are not trending well for independent thought. Every right-leaning news site needs a digital bug out plan, and Telegram is part of ours.

We’re just getting started on Telegram and will be posting twice a day with our most popular stories. We’d love for you to follow us over there and help us grow our channel by sharing our content with your contacts and channels.

Welcome!

W1AW has been hosting Morse code practice for a hundred years or so, using as text their ham magazine articles.

There’s no reason you can’t do the same twice a day with whatever text you want, and learn a new skill for after the apocalypse at the same time. There’s a platform they won’t cancel, probably.

Gads. I haven’t thought about W1AW in decades!

I was one of the last “take it at home technicians”, administered by a General-class licensee I knew, that was 1975.

Moved up to General at the hamfest in Columbus GA in 1977 or ’78, tried and failed Advanced several times and finally got it with the minimum score. Aced the Extra first time out.

I could have moved up from no-code tech easily at any time if I were capable of making progress of any kind with Morse code. That was a frustrating decade.

When they lifted the code requirement the only time I let pass before moving up to Extra and getting my vanity call was waiting to make sure I’d passed for General.

Vanity seems appropriate; I don’t operate anymore, but I keep my license current so I can keep the call sign.

I was given a rig and I am not even sure it runs. I’ve not been on the air in decades, but now have room for antennas and such, so, will come back.

Joined up.
