Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Seeks to Bypass Biden HHS & Buy Monoclonals Directly from Drug-Makers

DeSantis evaluating Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline treatment options.

One long-term benefit of President Donald Trump’s term in office is that Americans became accustomed to seeing state governors outright rejecting presidential proposals very robustly and very publicly.

Turnabout is fair play, and Biden is now enjoying the fruits of the tree the Democrats planted and nurtured for four years.

I recently noted that the Biden Administration was planning to take over nationwide distribution of monoclonal antibody treatments. Ostensibly, officials say, it is in the name of equity, as 70% of those treatments have gone to red states.

Furthermore, Governor Ron DeSantis has had a great deal of success opening up clinics across Florida to help promote early treatment.

It appears Team Biden did not count on DeSantis’ tenacity or capitalism. The feds simply bought up all the Regeneron.

It turns out there are other monoclonal antibody treatments, and DeSantis is pursing those products.

DeSantis called the change a raw deal and vowed to work directly with drug company GlaxoSmithKline to circumvent federal officials by purchasing its monoclonal treatment, Sotrovimab.

“The federal government has bought all the Regeneron,” DeSantis said. “We are not able to buy it directly from Regeneron given that. We do think we can order some Sotrovimab and we will do that if we can.”

The governor has opened 25 monoclonal sites in the Sunshine State. His office has said Florida needs about 72,000 doses weekly to meet demand. This week’s allotment is less than half that — about 31,000.

DeSantis is also reconsidering an Eli Lilly product.

The Governor has spent more than a month in a hard push to promote Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody treatment. Despite previously downplaying Eli Lilly’s version for not being as effective against the delta variant, DeSantis was more optimistic about the option on Tuesday as he spoke in St. Cloud.

…Florida chose Regeneron over other options, DeSantis has said, because the federal government has made it free for states and hospitals to draw down, because it can be administered with a shot, and because it provides better results than others against the delta variant, which was largely responsible for this summer’s record-breaking surge.

Eli Lilly’s version is available through the federal government again, and DeSantis said GlaxoSmithKline’s formula is on the market.

Each state-run monoclonal antibody treatment site can offer the therapy to more than 300 people daily. Wait lists at some sites are now days long despite the treatment being more effective the earlier someone receives it. Having other treatments would help increase supply even though they must be administered through an IV, which takes longer.

Of course, don’t underestimate Biden’s ability to mess things up.

This is from a news story in DFW about this two days ago:

“People seeking COVID-19 treatments to keep them out of the hospital may soon have a tough time finding them.

Citing supply issues, the federal government will now ration supplies to states.”

We know this is a lie. The only supply issues are ones created by Biden. Why do people put up with this? I do not understand it. The most tyrannical idiots are in charge of health care, praise be the Stuttering Cluster-F Of A Failure. What this administration has done, or failed to do, in 9 months is indescribable. A new language needs to be invented for this jackass because English isn’t good enough.

It’s classic Communist and Socialist bullshit.

The government HAS to take control of the supply. Don’t you understand, if they didn’t take everything, those evil greedy rich people would hoard it and the poor people wouldn’t be able to get anything?

What’s that? The poor people aren’t getting anything? We have to carefully ration it so that the people that REALLY need it get it. Are you one of those evil rich people that want it when you don’t REALLY need it!!!! WE SAY WHEN YOU NEED IT!!!!

Communist and socialist oppressors have done this with food and medicine literally for centuries, and it’s always justified with the same bullshit. ‘It’s for the good of THE PEOPLE, we have to take control so those evil rich people/Jews/heretics/rebels can’t take it all!

They’ve always told the same lies because the stupid sheep always believe it.

They are giving us a taste of the “you won’t own anything” part but we yet have the hang of the “and you will be happy” part. It will take practice.

“The beatings will continue until morale improves!”

Kinds like the previous experiment, where they got through the “everything now belongs to the State” part, but somehow never quite managed to reach the “State will wither away” part.

henrybowman in reply to Olinser. | September 18, 2021 at 10:26 pm

“Comrades!” he cried. “You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself! Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (and this has been proved by Science, comrades!) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig. We pigs are brain-workers. The whole management and organization of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples. Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed in our duty? Jones would come back! Yes, Jones would come back!”

This week the tide may have turned for the better. The bizarre attack by Fauci the liar, the Biden administration, the corrupt corporate media, the maskhole nazis, the vaxx fetish crowd, etc. attacking Nicki Manaj and the balls story along with the FDA Advisory Board questioning the effectiveness of a booster (let alone the jabs) and now Big Government rationing drugs that appear to help those who need monoclonal antibodies treatment (which includes 50% who have been vaxxed) scales are falling off and people are waking up asking pertinent questions like why was this virus pushed into the world and why the lies along with why the coverup?

I certainly hope so, but I also think this is a profoundly leftwing country (latest evidence Gavin Newsome surviving with 63% of the vote), and will put up with ANYTHING as long as it has a D label on it.

henrybowman in reply to sestamibi. | September 18, 2021 at 10:21 pm

Well, my home has three toilets. two garbage disposals, five trash cans, and a litterbox, but I wouldn’t argue from that that the entire house is a septic disaster area.

Olinser in reply to sestamibi. | September 19, 2021 at 12:43 am

It’s not a leftwing country. The cowards just let the leftwing morons cheat themselves to victory for to long.

Let me ask you a simple question.

In the last couple weeks before the recall election, were Newsom and the Democrats ACTING like people that were about to win an election with 63%?

Ivermectin with IV Vitamin C, D3 and NAC treatments work, according to Joe Rogan and several others who have used it immediately after feeling symptoms. OTOH I have testimony from a woman in her 50’s who got better in a day by the Regeneron injection after having a very bad case of COVID for over 5 days.

Ivermectin .vs. Covid In A Poor, High-Density State

Vaccines for high risk cases. Monoclonal antibodies, too. Ivermectin, HCQ protocol, affordable, available, effective, safe for many more. Nutritional supplements for most people. Early treatment for all to mitigate infection and disease progression. Planned parent/hood need not be a choice… or rather Choice, for young or old.

The good news out of this is highlighting the fact that effective treatments not only exist but are widely employed. Hard to downplay the antibody treatments as fringe when the Biden Admin is pulling them from the Southeast to be reserved for use elsewhere. Especially when Psaki framed it as an issue of fairness /Equity.

Yes, but they did this with hydroxychloraquine. My patients with rheumatoid arthritis who had been on it for years couldn’t fill their prescriptions because they were saving it for severe Covid cases, but people with Covid were told it didn’t work and might kill them, and that they couldn’t have it.

randian in reply to vinnymeyer. | September 18, 2021 at 3:15 pm

Those pharmacists are lying, they aren’t “saving it for covid”. In fact it’s the opposite. Generally, none of the national pharmacy chains will fill HCQ or Ivermectin prescriptions, to keep you from using them to treat covid. If you are using those drugs for some other equally legitimate purpose that’s your problem.

The phrase “depraved indifference to human life” comes to mind frequently when watching this administration.

Excellent. 👍

And if Biden swoops in and buys the whole supply from this other company that will just be even more proof it’s all political.

I’d start running ads that Biden wants Floridians to die by buying up all the supplies of the monoclonal antibody just to prevent DeSantis from getting it to those who need it.

    “…if Biden swoops…”

That’s pretty funny. Biden swoops. He can’t even go up stairs without falling down. He wanders off the path and needs help to get back into the whitehouse.

I’d like to see him try to swoop out of his mobility scooter and make it to the bathroom without help. But he’s afraid to swoop too far knowing Kamala is watching and will grab his seat the first chance she gets.

This is no surprise at this point. The so-called “Biden Administration” have already demonstrated their utter contempt for human life time and again.

Admittedly, I’ve not really given much attention to Ron DeSantis until lately, but he reminds me of a lawyer I once had during a rather contentious divorce.

A good friend who showed up for moral support was shocked after seeing my lawyer in action. His conclusion was that my lawyer was a real asshole. I just laughed and mentioned the fact that he’s OUR asshole, not theirs. Things went my way.

DeSantis looks to have the same sort of unconventional no-bullshit approach to whatever situation comes to the fore.

sestamibi in reply to SField. | September 18, 2021 at 9:51 pm

Every day I thank God that even if I have to live in Joe Rutabaga’s America I still get to live in Ron DeSantis’ Florida!

“Ostensibly, officials say, it is in the name of equity, as 70% of those treatments have gone to red states”

Of course they are, blue states aren’t getting tens of thousands of covid-positive illegal aliens thrown on their doorstep.

Another point, I’m willing to bet the Blue states are not *requesting* these monoclonal treatments, and the Red states are. If reporters work their little keyboard buttons correctly, and my theory is correct, unwanted piles of Res. will accumulate in Blue state distribution points at the same time Red states open up the gates to alternatives of the same general type.

Res has a shelf life. If things play out as I’m guessing, thousands of preventable Blue state deaths will result, which the media will (as usual) attempt to blame Trump and Desantis for.

None of this would be a problem if Ivermectin and HCQ weren’t being suppressed in favor of patented treatments that are much more expensive.

SField in reply to randian. | September 18, 2021 at 3:42 pm

    Yep.

I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus over a decade ago, and I’ve been taking HCQ the entire time to control it and to blunt its effects, known as flares.

Not only is it a safe, time proven drug that prevents malaria, it’s also made the difficult lives of people with Lupus and other autoimmune disorders, quite livable.

Been taking it for 14 years now. Doing just fine. The lies the MSM put out about HCQ are total bullshit. I’m living proof.

Once more, with feeling:

If the Feds are rationing the monoclonal antibodies as an important and effective treatment for covid, then the emergency authorizations for the vaccines are now null and void because an effective alternative now exists. Yes?

This still matters because the FDA did not actually approve the Pfizer vaxx, as compliantly reported, they only approved some future production of it, which has not even begun yet. Existing supplies actually just had their emergency authorization specifically extended.

I presume the govt tried this “approval” bluff in order to mandate the vaxx while still giving Pfizer the legal impunity that comes with the emergency authorized.

Anyway, IANAL, but isn’t the vaxx legally now, once again, an experimental treatment, likely without even a valid emergency authorization? Is there not an obvious legal challenge to be made in accordance with this?

Further, I guess I might also add that an FDA that votes 16-2 that booster shots were not worth the risk is likely an FDA that wouldn’t fully approve the Pfizer vaxx, perhaps necessitating the bluff.

I could see one of those too-clever-by-a-half beltway types, tasked with paving the way for a mandate, looking at Pfizer and their preference for legal immunity, looking at an FDA that would not approve the vaxx, and coming up with the tortured compromise that they did.

But at its heart, it’s still just a bluff.

Further still, I suspect that the reason that Pfizer hasn’t started producing COMIRNATY yet is because the FDA would rescind their approval if that happened.

The FDA is thereby allowing the bluff to proceed while not really approving the vaxx, at least not until the evidence is in
.

Oh, and here’s the link where the FDA approved the future COMIRNATY vaxx and extended the emergency authorization for the existing Pfizer/Biontech supplies.

Even though they’re the same vaxx….

When a Texas or Floridan resident dies because they were denied the monoclonal antibody treatment, and somewhere else has the medication wasted because it sat on a shelf unused, is there a criminal charge to be made? Negligence, or indifference to life? If the other states were actually using the stuff, and everybody needed to wait in line, that is one thing. But the others aren’t even using the stuff. Who would be charged? The FICUS, and then all who followed the illegal order.
If a doctor orders something lethal, by mistake, and the nurse doesn’t catch the mistake, the nurse is also culpable. If B1den makes this order, and people follow it and others die, those who followed the order are also culpable.

Oh, come on. We can’t find anybody who counts to make a clear charge of treason against a senior military officer. You think anybody effective is going to prosecute this, short of a lone wolf sniper?

“The feds simply bought up all the Regeneron.”

Well, it worked for ammunition.

I get the feeling we’re now living the ugliest scenes from Dune.
