Female Student Physically Attacked on Campus of Chapman University, Male Students Rush to Help

“The suspect allegedly attacked her, and then sexually assaulted her.”

The victim is apparently a black belt in Karate, which must have come in handy.

FOX News reports:

California college student sexually assaulted, boys jump from window and rush to help

A female freshman college student in California who has 12 years of karate training fought off an attacker wearing a skeleton mask, while two of her male peers rushed out of a window to assist her.

“He punches me in the face, I hit the trash can behind me,” the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, told Fox 11 of the attack at Chapman University.

The incident reportedly unfolded on Chapman’s campus in Orange as the 18-year-old freshman was FaceTiming her boyfriend at a picnic table outside her dorm on Friday. The suspect allegedly attacked her, and then sexually assaulted her.

The victim, a black belt in karate with 12 years of experience, chased the suspect out of the area.

“Somehow, he got off me and I chased him up the stairs cursing him out,” the victim said.

“At first, it reminded me of the Scream, sort of, because the eyes were blacked out,” she said, referring to the suspect wearing a skeleton mask during the attack. “I couldn’t see any eyes. I specifically remember the skeleton part on top and mouth being blacked out as if he was wearing the full thing and had a mask on too.”

Two male students, both freshmen, also rushed to assist their female peer when they heard her screams.

“We heard screaming outside,” said Michael Zapesotsky. “You knew something was wrong.”

Any description of the attacker?

Police have issued an APB for Jack Skellington, “ulna’d and dangerous.”
Seriously, I’m not sure what you’re asking.

“The incident reportedly unfolded on Chapman’s campus in Orange as the 18-year-old freshman was FaceTiming her boyfriend at a picnic table outside her dorm on Friday.”

No matter how many years of karate training she has being inattentive to her surroundings could have cost her even more dearly.

I presume this was a crime of opportunity. The suspect will likely be on the search for other victims. I wonder if campus police take reports of peeping toms seriously or just brush them off as harmless behavior?

while years of training in any martial art is beneficial, the most important area of training for women (as they comprise nearly all of the sexual assault/rape victims)is what is known as “downfighting”–in other words, how to defend/ resist/ and attack from a prone(usually on your back) position–to attack/disable/kill an aggressor(s)

it is comprised of a small set of very specific, direct, powerful actions to take(and not strength-dependent)when knocked down or pinned to the ground–easy to learn/practice/master in a few weeks not years

can keep you safe and may truly save your life
