LA Times Columnist Dragged On Twitter For Tone-Deaf “Latinx” Tweets

Leftists from Sen. Elizabeth Warren on down to a columnist at the Los Angeles Times insist on torturing the beautiful and endlessly expressive Spanish language by referring to Latino and/or Hispanic Americans as “Latinx.”

This is a term that poll after poll and study after study shows falls flat with actual Hispanics and Latinos (not the same thing, of course) who prefer—by a huge margin of 96-4%—to be called either Hispanic or Latino (with or without the ‘-American’ addition).

The term ‘Latinx’ forces gender neutrality, a concept beloved by the woke and mostly white American left, on a gendered language, and in doing so, disrespects the language, the many Hispanic and Latino peoples, and their entire cultures.

To borrow from the woke left’s tortured racist “antiracist” ideology: white elites imposing the term “Latinx” on diverse peoples who manifestly reject it is the very height of white arrogance and of white colonialism.

Indeed, the lack of self-awareness and the sky-high, self-own irony from the “antiracist” racists who revel in their ‘cultural sensitivity” of using a virtue-signaling term rejected by the very peoples to whom it’s applied is beyond cringeworthy.

Therefore, I found the elitist condescension on Twitter of LA Times opinion columnist Jean Guerrero endlessly cringey.  And kind of hilarious.  And not a little sad.

The left loves to point out that eating at Taco Bell or that white people owning a Chinese restaurant is “cultural appropriation, ” but it’s completely fine to waltz up to people and effectively say, “Hello, you look Latinx to me, perhaps you can help me understand why you ‘Latinxs’ [?!] refuse to understand that recalling Governor Newsom is not in your best interest?”.

Elite-splaining from an elitist bubble-dweller using an insulting, culturally-insensitive word made up by white elitist bubble-dwellers is totes fine in her precious little world in which the unwashed ‘Latinxs’ should be happy to do as they are told.

Except this tweet got a lot of pushback.

And anyone who doesn’t like it is, of course, a “right-wing” hysteric. So declares Fragility Jean after being ratioed . . . by mostly left-leaning Hispanics who try to get it through her racist “antiracist” noggin that “Latinx” is not only insulting, wrong, stupid, and rude, but insultingly, stupidly, and rudely wrong. (via Twitchy)

Cultural appropriation, if one has to accept that as a thing, is not stopping by Taco Bell for a couple of soft tacos or some yummy nachos, it’s hijacking an entire language to flex elitist power and to impose a dominant culture’s ideological superiority on unwilling groups of diverse and distinct peoples who’ve been given no say at all in the matter.

Sorry, Jean and all your elitist bubble-dweller friends, but you don’t get to change an entire gendered language by making up words and then imposing your supremacist colonial inventions on entire (and unwilling) peoples. And if you insist on depriving people of their own language, their own cultural identities, yeah, they may tune you—and your party—out.  Go figure.
