China Promises to Retaliate Against Any Nation Blaming COVID19 on Wuhan Laboratory

I just reported the official 90-day review period Biden ordered on the origin of the coronavirus pandemic ended. There will be a briefing as early as Tuesday on the results.

Or, instead, the briefing will cover the lack of results. It appears the report will not reach any definitive conclusions, nor will there be any meaningful action taken to have the Chinese be more transparent, open, and honest about their coronavirus research and laboratories.

Notwithstanding, histrionic Chinese officials are threatening to retaliate against any nation that names the Wuhan Institute of Virology bat lab as the point source of the pathogen.

China is threatening to retaliate against any country that claims the coronavirus originated from a Wuhan lab leak — a warning that comes as a US intelligence community report was “inconclusive” about the origins of the pandemic.“We will continue to cooperate with international organizations like the WHO in their research and in their search for the origins,” said Fu Cong, director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s Arms Control Department, according to Bloomberg News.“But we do not accept baseless and unfounded accusations that are politically motivated. And if they want to baselessly accuse China, so they better be prepared to accept the counterattack from China,” he said on Wednesday.

Chinese officials are also accusing the US of “scapegoating” the nation over the pandemic.

China on Wednesday criticized the U.S. “politicization” of efforts to trace the origin of the coronavirus, demanding without any evidence that American labs be investigated, ahead of the release of a U.S. intelligence report on the virus. The U.S. report is intended to resolve disputes among intelligence agencies considering different theories about how the coronavirus emerged, including a once-dismissed theory about a Chinese laboratory accident.”Scapegoating China cannot whitewash the U.S.,” Fu Cong, director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ arms control department, told a briefing.

China has also been busy bullying the European Union over the issue.

In a veiled warning to Brussels, Chinese officials urged Wednesday an end to “politicizing the issue of origins tracing” amid growing pressure on Beijing to allow for a more thorough investigation into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. The statement, made by China’s mission to the EU, comes after Research and Innovation Commissioner Mariya Gabriel added her name on Tuesday to a group of scientific experts and government representatives from the U.S., Australia and Japan. In a statement, they called on the “Chinese government to reconsider its decision to not engage in the World Health Organization’s proposal for the next phase of the COVID-19 origins study.”Earlier in the month, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus asked China to be “open and to cooperate” with its ongoing mission to pinpoint the origins of the virus, first detected in Wuhan. In particular, the WHO has asked China to provide raw data from early days of pandemic, which so far it has refused to do.

Chinese officials recently took time out from their antics over COVID to recall the Lithuanian ambassador for allowing Taiwan to open up an office in the Baltic nation.

China on Tuesday recalled its ambassador to Lithuania and expelled the Baltic nation’s top representative to Beijing over the country’s decision to allow self-governing Taiwan to open an office in Lithuania under its own name.Beijing claims Taiwan as its territory without the right to diplomatic recognition, although the island maintains informal ties with all major nations through trade offices that act as de facto embassies, including in the United States and Japan. Chinese pressure has reduced Taiwan’s formal diplomatic allies to just 15.

It is being reported that the European Union’s executive and diplomatic arms are preparing a report reviewing its relationship with China. It will be interesting to see if it takes an approach similar to Biden’s: Surrender under the guise of diplomacy.
