Virginia’s Department of Education has release a new set of guidelines for schools that are designed to make life better for transgender students.

Despite the fact that transgender students are a small minority, the new policies are going to change life for everyone, including doing away with some things lots of people enjoy.

Daniel Payne reports at Just The News:

Virginia says local schools should ‘eliminate gender-based practices’ under new transgender rules

Virginia’s Department of Education is urging school districts throughout the state to work to end as many sex-segregated activities and programs as possible as part of a recently promulgated set of rules aimed at accommodating transgender students statewide.

The department’s Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools was developed pursuant to legislation passed last year by the state legislature and signed into law by Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam. That law dictates that the Department of Education is required to “develop and make available” new rules, after which school districts are required to adopt policies that “are consistent with but may be more comprehensive than” the state-level guidance…

The document advises that “in general, school divisions should make efforts to eliminate gender-based practices to the extent possible.”

“Gender-based policies, rules, and practices can have the effect of marginalizing, stigmatizing, and excluding students, regardless of their gender identity or gender expression,” it states, citing “practices that may be based on gender” such as “grouping students for class activities, gender-based homecoming or prom courts, limitations on who can attend as ‘couples’ at school dances, and gender-based events such as father-daughter dances.”

So non-transgender students can’t have father-daughter dances anymore, for the well-being of transgender students? So much equity.

And that’s not all.

You can read the entire policy document here.

Virginia has already been tense for weeks due to the battle over Critical Race Theory in schools. Now this topic is going to heat things up even more.

WHSV News reports:

Hundreds show up to speak to Augusta School Board about transgender policy

In Verona Thursday night, hundreds of people showed up at the Augusta County Government Center, most speaking out against a policy that would allow transgender students to use the bathroom aligning with their gender identity.

Starting this school year, all public schools in Virginia must take new steps to prevent discrimination based on gender identity. Now, the Augusta County School Board is considering how to align its policies with state law.

Those opposed shared fears about re-traumatizing sexually abused children. Some quoted the Bible talking about God’s laws. Others talked about the majority being dictated by the minority. And, several speakers reminded the School Board that they work for the people of Augusta County, not Richmond.

“I’m not here to label transgender as an evil person or a bad person at all,” said Danielle Showalter. “But, who knows when someone that isn’t transgender would use it as a cover to harm our children? Even if it happens one time, that’s one time too many.”

“It is amazing to see that we’re even talking about this in this area,” stated Harold Munson. “In the name of acceptance and tolerance we’re asked to trample on the rights of the vast majority of our students who find this distressing.”

The left is pushing so much, so hard, and so fast, they are sparking a revolution in public education. Parents are suddenly waking up to the reality of who is running their schools and many of them are fighting to change it.

“The left is pushing so much, so hard, and so fast, they are sparking a revolution in public education. Parents are suddenly waking up to the reality of who is running their schools and many of them are fighting to change it.”

Is it too little too late. They saw this coming a long time ago when Black Face Northam was elected. The rot from DC and the surrounding counties has been there for everyone to see and many sat around and did nothing.

Good luck and good fighting, you’re going to need it.

It’s not that it’s too little too late.

It’s more like a pendulum: before the other side pushes the pendulum the other direction, we wind up swinging past the middle–past reasonableness–first. And the harder one side shoves that pendulum, the more momentum develops in the other direction, until we overshoot the middle on our swing to the other side.

This pendulum swing has been true in our country since before its founding.

And I expect the pendulum swing to be pretty impressive, and not at all what current public education advocates who are trying very hard to push what is, at its root, a post-modernist (and anti-reason) agenda will want.

    —-

Which, honestly, saddens me. Because if the current ‘ask’ by people advocating for transgender rights were not pushing us in a direction so antithetical to base assumptions in our society–for example, advocating mixed-gender locker rooms in a society that is extremely protective of children and gender-segregated spaces for those children on fear of ‘sexualizing’ children–I suspect they’d achieve goals of transgender acceptance by appealing to our society’s innate kindness and compassion.

Instead, they have to shove the pendulum for all its worth–setting us up for decades of the pendulum swinging wildly and in unexpected–and often unkind–ways.

Schools should respond by taking the rule literally. One co-ed team for every sport. No girls’ teams, no girls’ programs. Etc.

Paddy M in reply to Ann in L.A.. | July 3, 2021 at 4:47 pm

I’d go one step further and make it open tryouts for every sport. If the real or fake girls don’t make the team, then too bad.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to Paddy M. | July 4, 2021 at 3:24 pm

They will just institute quotas on sports teams.. and “privileged” people will not be allowed to participate.

Now do locker room changing areas and showers.

We should all be aware that the Court of Appeals in the Gavin transgender bathroom case decided it was illegal for the school to provide a separate facility for Gavin.

Speedo briefs for the swim team. The entire swim team.

Perhaps a physical education/human performance graduation requirement. One that mandates a score of 70% on the APFT off of the male 17 – 21 year old charts.
      Male. Female
      Push up. 49. 25
      Sit up. 59. 59
      2 mile run. 15:12. 18:01

The above show the required raw numbers to achieve a 70% in each event by gender. As you can imagine, a gender neutral application of the current standard using either male or female standards would heavily favor males.

Biological differences in muscle mass and bone density matter. They can’t be wished away.

That is an able-ist mentality and discriminates against the non-able. Your proposal is the result of privilege. You should be sent to a camp for mandatory re-education. Self-reflection in forced solitude until you adopt the correct opinions is the prescription for you.

If you are “white,” all that goes away. Also, if you hold incorrect opinions, all that also goes away.

          BSR,

No. Sure, some may try that tack. By simply applying their own rubric of Alinsky’s rules against them they are then forced to comply with their rules or by violating them prove that they have no commitment to any rule set.

If they comply they are defeated. If not then they have demonstrated their commitment to acquire power by any means and use that power to vanquish their ideological opponents.

        “They can’t be wished away.”

Oh yes they can! They can be brainwashed away.

          If wishes were fishes…..

I would simply point out that one who rejects reality in favor of their own fantasy is not demonstrating a capacity for rationality.

Those who are irrational are not generally considered sane. Those who are insane may or may not pose a danger so a prudent society would offer mental health services to facilitate that persons return to rational thought.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to Brave Sir Robbin. | July 5, 2021 at 11:35 am

But when we allow the insane to rule, then what? Also, the people foisting all this are not insane. They are telling you that you MUST believe something objectively and blatantly untrue, and you must agree with them as a sign of your loyalty – that you will willing subvert reality if required to follow them. Those who disagree, or hesitate, or ask a question, or even just stay silent, are then identified as disloyal and suffer what ever it is decided to be done to them, as a lesson to others. When the Storm Troopers go marching by, just raise your arm and salute. It’s easier than getting beaten up by a mob. Just wear the Nazi party pin or arm band if you want to keep your your job much less get a promotion. It’s a lot easier. If they say they are the Master Race and need living space and slaves, and that all Jews are evil and must be exterminated, you are expected not just to be silent, or even nod in agreement, but click your heels together, thrust out you arm, scream Heil, Heil, Heil, and do what you are told. No other human attribute really matters.

          BSR,

Your ‘when’ seems more of an ‘if’ IMO. At least that’s currently the case in a great many locations.

In those locations where your description has come to or nearing fruition, the prudent course is to relocate to an area where these insane policies neither hold sway nor are likely to be adopted.

The problem is that “transgender” is not strictly defined. “Gender identity” is fluid. It can change by the minute, by the day, by the week.

I have not read of any requirement for a student to go through counseling, no mandatory doctor involvement, no parental involvement or agreement, no signed student declaration on record.

I have not seen one rule that addresses the issue.

So a 13 year old boy student decides he is going to use the 2nd grade girls bathroom, gets caught/admonished after the little girls start screaming. He then claims he is a girl that day, threatens to sue the teacher and the school for singling him out and the school is powerless to do anything?

UserP in reply to catscradle. | July 3, 2021 at 8:20 pm

“Gender identity” is fluid. It can change by the minute.”

Yeah you could be a public bathroom and your gender could change before you’re finished. You would run out screaming knowing it could cause you irreparable harm that would scar you for life.

amwick in reply to catscradle. | July 4, 2021 at 7:44 am

Great point.. gender is now something you self identify.. well I said before,, many, many times, identify is the same thing as pretend. What would happen if young children identify as cats, would the school system be obligated to provide litter boxes.? Tongue in cheek, but you can see where this could go. If gender is fluid, so is species…

There will be many girl students who will not enter a bathroom with a couple of boys inside.

These girls will suffer both mentally and physically as a result.

What about the state name? Virginia has many closely associated words that have a gender connotation.

Alternative headline: VA school board tyrants torture logic, reality, and 99.99% of tax payers in order to cater to .01% of the mentally ill trans agenda.

Still and again and again: DEFUND the SCHOOLS. Fund the student. School choice is a civil right.

Don’t be on the wrong side of history.

    CommoChief in reply to LB1901. | July 3, 2021 at 8:15 pm

    LB,

Exactly. Taxpayer support of publicly funded education should not be limited to public schools. Let the funding follow the student to the school that best meets the individual circumstances of that student.

We do this in higher ed, why not K – 12?

JusticeDelivered in reply to CommoChief. | July 3, 2021 at 9:38 pm

I think that per student funding does follow students, but capital expenses do not. School administrators are well versed in cooking the books. Any counter attack should involve very close auditing of every penny. It would be fun watching woke administrators being hung for financial abuses.

CommoChief in reply to JusticeDelivered. | July 4, 2021 at 10:02 am

        Justice,

In which States does the total Federal, State and Local taxpayer dollars per pupil flow to the Student and follow them to a private, parochial and homeschool? I am not aware of any State where this occurs, nor that total minus maintenance.

In fairness the maintenance budget for physical plant of existing public school buildings should be deducted from that amount. The public school district is required to take all students so retention of the portion of the budget maintain mothballed buildings against future need seems legitimate.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to CommoChief. | July 4, 2021 at 3:34 pm

Well, it sort of flows – that is, the budget flows based on enrollment. So if the budget is $1,000,000,000 in a district and there are 10,000 students, the schools get a budget allocation based on the number of students at the school. No let’s say parents have had enough, and 5,000 students withdrawn and sent to private or home schooling. All this means is that $1,035,000,000 is now allocated among the remaining 5,000 kids.

It does not save any money. Its just a way for districts to allocate budgets within a district.

CommoChief in reply to CommoChief. | July 5, 2021 at 10:05 am

          BSR,

Well, sure the State and Federal funds are allocated on a per student basis to the district.

What I am advocating here is that all funding, minus maintenance costs of excess capacity buildings, be transferred to the student. The funding could be used in another public school, private school, parochial school, homeschool, pod school or a blend of these.

State sponsored child abuse.

There’s a general election coming up, which includes the governorship. The odds are Terry McAuliffe is going to win, so this policy will just keep on going. Only way it may change is if the Republicans take back the legislature and win the governorship, but then the media would be going nuts and I’m sure the lawsuits would be flying.

Also notice when this was announced: Just before a holiday weekend and when people are taking vacations.

Sex: male and female and sex-correlated gender: masculine and feminine. The transgender spectrum (e.g. homosexual) covers edge cases and should be considered individually and separately in context relative to each sex.

This general ruling reminds me of the Progressives’ Pro-Choice religion that denies a woman and man’s dignity and agency. They like to force social change with broad sweeps of double-edged scalpels.

One more step down the road to minority rule. The only thing left to be resolved is which minority is going to actually survive the bloody war when all of those minority rights start to conflict.

Hopefully parents will push back. It maybe the new lost cause but let’s try it.

Perhaps a simple visual ad of a juvenile delinquent looking 16yo boy pushing open the door of the girls bathroom with the caption: This is what the democrats want in your school system.

Genderphobia. is a progressive condition. There is no need to conflate sexes, genders, or sex and gender. Individuals in the transgender spectrum (e.g. homosexuals) can be considered individually, as couplets, etc. That said, society, and humanity, have compelling cause to normalize a favorable juxtaposition of the sexes, individually, in marriage, etc.
