UC-Davis Suspends Entire Baseball Team and Places Coach on Leave but Won’t Say Why

Why did this happen? The school won’t say. Doesn’t that seem a little odd?

NBC News reports:

California university suspends entire baseball teamThe University of California, Davis suspended its entire baseball program and placed the coaching staff on administrative leave due to allegations of misconduct, according to officials.”The safety of students is of utmost importance to UC Davis,” the school’s intercollegiate athletics department said Wednesday in a statement. The UC Davis Office of Compliance and Policy is investigating the allegations, a process that is expected to last for the first two months of fall quarter, which begins Sept. 20.”At this time, it is too early to know definitively when team activities, including practice, may start,” the athletics department said. The statement did not elaborate on the specifics of the allegations but said the department was “committed to conducting a thorough assessment to determine the best path forward to provide a safe and inclusive experience for all team members.” Campus resources are available to help people who were affected by the alleged behavior, according to the school.University spokeswoman Melissa Blouin said the compliance and policy office’s process for responding to allegations “protects the privacy of all parties during an investigation,” and it would be “premature” to share information about the allegations.”We will share additional information, to the extent possible, if the allegations are substantiated,” Blouin said.
