UC-Davis Suspends Entire Baseball Team and Places Coach on Leave but Won’t Say Why

“committed to conducting a thorough assessment to determine the best path forward to provide a safe and inclusive experience for all team members”

Why did this happen? The school won’t say. Doesn’t that seem a little odd?

NBC News reports:

California university suspends entire baseball team

The University of California, Davis suspended its entire baseball program and placed the coaching staff on administrative leave due to allegations of misconduct, according to officials.

“The safety of students is of utmost importance to UC Davis,” the school’s intercollegiate athletics department said Wednesday in a statement.

The UC Davis Office of Compliance and Policy is investigating the allegations, a process that is expected to last for the first two months of fall quarter, which begins Sept. 20.

“At this time, it is too early to know definitively when team activities, including practice, may start,” the athletics department said.

The statement did not elaborate on the specifics of the allegations but said the department was “committed to conducting a thorough assessment to determine the best path forward to provide a safe and inclusive experience for all team members.” Campus resources are available to help people who were affected by the alleged behavior, according to the school.

University spokeswoman Melissa Blouin said the compliance and policy office’s process for responding to allegations “protects the privacy of all parties during an investigation,” and it would be “premature” to share information about the allegations.

“We will share additional information, to the extent possible, if the allegations are substantiated,” Blouin said.

[Voice of angry situation comedy wife] ,”Oh, YOU, know why I’m angry…!”

Why did they suspend the entire program?

Because they can. They need no other reason.

it’s the leftist way…..you have no right to know……U of C. A piece of schit school in a shct hole state burns down its own forests, and burns down its own cities. To quote a democrat: let them die.

Word is there was hazing.

“Why did they suspend the entire program?”

My guess is the 8 wins and 32 losses they had this past season.

If there is hazing with a coach involved, there is potentially serious liability.
From a Title IX perspective, it is interesting to note that the softball team has not be impacted. https://ucdavisaggies.com/sports/softball/roster
There are four women softball coaches, but males listed as equipment manager, athletic academic advisor, and athletic training fellow. If long-term staff reductions are necessary, will any men’s baseball coaches with greater seniority have the right to “bump” the softball coaches?

Can varsity baseball players declare themselves to be non-binary and join the softball team?
Such questions arise when you punish an entire group “the baseball program” without making findings of individual wrongdoing.
