Democrats Trying to Sneak Amnesty Into Massive Budget Bill Using Reconciliation

Democrats know their time is limited. The 2022 midterms are fast-approaching, and Republicans are likely to recapture the House, the Senate, or both.

This is why Democrats are trying to cram as much as possible into every bill on the table. Their massive budget bill even includes amnesty for illegals.

Karen Townsend writes at Hot Air:

Durbin confirms: Democrats will put amnesty plan into infrastructure billWhat better time to push through amnesty for potentially millions of illegal immigrants than during the Biden border crisis? As tone-deaf as the plan is, that is exactly what Senate Democrats are planning to do in the $3.5T infrastructure bill. A decision has not been made on the numbers yet but Senator Dick Durbin, the Senate Democratic Whip, confirmed this week that it will happen. Democrats will try to push through immigration reform in the budget process. With the news being reported today that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wants to bring a trial vote on infrastructure to the floor of the Senate by Wednesday of next week, this is an interesting turn of events. Add that to the ruling by the federal judge who determined that DACA is “an illegally implemented program”, and immigration reform has come to the forefront of political discourse once again. In the past, it has been an issue that a bipartisan group gets together and comes up with a plan to move immigration reform through Congress but at the last minute it always falls apart and the issue gets kicked down the road. This plan will likely include those people designated as Dreamers, farmworkers, and possibly essential workers like those who worked as health care workers during the pandemic.

Democrats are going to try to do this through reconciliation, typically reserved for budget measures, without a single Republican vote.

Politico reports:

Democrats launch immigration reform Hail MaryExhausted by years of sputtering immigration talks with Republicans, Democrats plan to try their luck with the Senate’s byzantine rulebook instead.Top Democrats, with the support of the White House, are planning to tuck a handful of immigration measures into their forthcoming $3.5 trillion spending bill. The tactic — which just months ago seemed like a long shot even to liberals — is now widely seen as President Joe Biden’s best shot at confronting one of Washington’s policy leviathans and delivering on a decades-long party promise…Success is still far from certain: Democrats don’t know whether the measure can survive the Senate’s obscure budget rules that would allow the bill to pass without GOP support. Democrats say they will go back and forth with the Senate parliamentarian, its nonpartisan rules referee, to push the breadth of immigration reform as far as it will go.The parliamentarian vets whether provisions of a bill passed using the legislative power known as budget reconciliation can evade a GOP filibuster and pass with a simple majority. While immigration provisions have survived past parliamentary scrutiny, they did so while commanding significant bipartisan support. This will be different, with a strong partisan challenge from Senate Republicans.

It’s not supposed to work this way, and Democrats know it, but as I mentioned, they’re in a mad dash to pass as much of their agenda as possible before Republicans can retake the House or the Senate.
