Vandals smeared pig’s blood and left a severed pig’s head on the porch of the former residence of Barry Brodd, the defense use-of-force expert in the Derek Chauvin trial.
It was clear that the home was targeted because the perps thought Brodd still lived there. Even though he had completed testimony, it was an act of intimidation.
The police have made arrests in the vandalism, as AP via KTVU San Francisco reports:
Three women have been arrested for allegedly vandalizing the one-time Northern California home of a former police officer who testified on behalf of the officer convicted of killing George Floyd by splashing pig blood on it and leaving a pig’s head near the front porch.Rowan Dalbey, 20, Kristen Aumoithe, 34, and Amber Lucas, 35, all of Santa Rosa, were arrested Tuesday on felony vandalism and conspiracy charges. They were cited and released, Santa Rosa Police spokeswoman Lt. Jeneane Kucker said Wednesday.After targeting home on April 17, the women also allegedly smeared pig blood on a large hand statue in Santa Rosa Plaza and left a picture of a pig reading “Oink Oink.” They have also been charged with that vandalism, Kucker said.
The federal court trial for the three officers has been set for August 2, 2021, and the state trial postponed until March 2022, according to news reports (the federal electronic docket does not yet reflect a trial date). The state court trial has been postponed until March 2022:
The federal trial for former Minneapolis police officers Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane, accused of civil rights violations in the death of George Floyd, is scheduled for August 2, a judge said Friday.The three men — who were helping former officer Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck, eventually killing him — will be arraigned on July 14 where they will be asked to plead to the charges.Chauvin also faces federal criminal charges but his trial date has not been scheduled. He was convicted in state court last month of two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter. His sentencing in that case is set for June 25….The federal trial will happen months before the three men’s state trial. It was postponed until March 7 so that the federal trial can take place first, Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill announced Thursday, according to a pool reporter in court.Kueng, Lane, and Thao are accused by state prosecutors of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. They have pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors have also appealed to reinstate a third-degree murder charge against each of them.
Along with attempts to take the medical license of Chauvin’s Forensic Pathology expert, the post-trial assault on witnesses will have a chilling impact on the ability of the three other officers charged to find experts willing to testify.
