Biden Picks Catherine Lhamon, Enemy of Campus Due Process, To Head Civil Rights Office in Education Dept.

“By putting forward Lhamon for this crucial role, President Biden has signaled that he would rather colleges go back to old, failed policies”

Joe Biden has picked Catherine Lhamon, a holdover from the Obama administration, to head civil rights in his education department.

Advocates of free speech and due process on campus have concerns.

Tyler Kingkade of NBC News reported on Lhamon’s nomination:

Biden will nominate Catherine Lhamon to lead Education Department’s civil rights office

President Joe Biden plans to nominate Catherine Lhamon to lead the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. Lhamon held the same position in the Obama administration.

Biden announced Lhamon’s nomination as assistant secretary for civil rights on Thursday. If confirmed, Lhamon would have a highly visible role in determining how the federal government addresses LGBTQ rights, sexual misconduct and racial discrimination in the nation’s K-12 schools and colleges.

Lhamon, a former American Civil Liberties Union attorney, is currently a domestic policy adviser at the White House, focusing on racial justice issues, and was chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights from 2017 to 2021. She led the Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights from 2013 to 2017, when the Obama administration emphasized tackling sexual assault on college campuses.

KC Johnson, who has been highly critical of the Obama administration’s record concerning due process on college campuses, criticized the choice of Lhamon.

Joe Cohn of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education has also spoken out:

Statement: Nomination of Catherine Lhamon a return to ‘old, failed policies’

The White House announced today that President Biden will nominate Catherine Lhamon to serve as the Department of Education’s Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights — the same position from which she oversaw efforts to undermine the due process rights of students accused of sexual misconduct during the Obama administration.

Under Lhamon’s leadership, the Office for Civil Rights enforced guidance that gutted due process protections and violated the First Amendment. Lhamon used that guidance to pressure institutions to restrict constitutionally protected speech and disregard basic procedural protections in campus disciplinary hearings.

By putting forward Lhamon for this crucial role, President Biden has signaled that he would rather colleges go back to old, failed policies — policies that have earned rebukes from dozens and dozens of courts to date — than pursue Title IX policies that take the rights of all students into account.

Christina Sommers is also critical:

Some days it does feel like we’re living through Obama’s third term.

More evidence of a far left infiltration of our government by the shadow president. I doubt Biden could pick her out of a line up.

Young men should just forget about college, or be celibate. Not that this would stop false accusations by women.

A lawyer who is against due process.

Skin color and gender overrule the law to the SJW types.

He/she/it/them/they look WHITE to me. Pure evil. I demand He/she/it/them/they be immediately replaced with a per(x) of color!

We’re loosing aren’t we. I fear the next election will be based on bullets not ballots.

“And how we burned in the camps…”

The side that has shown willingness (should I say, eagerness) to resort to violence to get what it wants is getting everything that it wants. And it’s coming from you and your children.

So, she subscribes to the Progressives’ Pro-Choice, selective, opportunistic, relativistic (“ethical”), politically congruent (“=”) religion. That said, do leftists still need to rationalize the wicked solution, Cecile The Cannibal clinics, and “carbon” sequestration with a socially liberal rape-rape culture?

Tha said, witch hunts, warlock trials, and legalized lynch mobs. Make America Better. One step forward, two steps backward.

Parents, and parents-to-be, I beg you to please avoid government schools. They are societal, emotional and intellectual poison.

“key protections” a.k.a. civil rights without diversity, sexism, etc.

We are living through Obama’s third term, both policy-wise and personnel-wise. Lhamon is one of many former Obama administration people being nominated for positions in this administration, with many more to come.

Due process is a structure thing. She’s more interested in feelings.

Structure channels feelings, or feelings break structure. One or the other. One works in large systems like nations and the other works in small situations like households or neighborhoods.

Ms. Lhamon was also involved in that terrible scam story (later retracted) concocted by Sabrina Rubin Erdely and Rolling Stone magazine about the University of Virginia sham-rape incident. Ms. Lhamon refuses to come clean about it, too.

Come on now, I would bet if you put her in a lineup with Liz Cheney and Cori Bush, Biden couldn’t pick her out with three tries!

Equal protection under the laws should be equal. Democrats don’t understand that fundamental principle.

The Senate must reject her. How can you have a woman in the DOE Civil Rights office who was instrumental in depriving accused students of their civil rights?

She will try to bend civil rights law around to deny civil rights to anyone who does not accede to her left-wing objectives.

Only way that happens is if a Democrat publicly says they won’t support her. If no one does, even if every Republican voted no they’ll just make Harris the deciding vote if necessary.

If somehow her nomination fails, they’ll do what they did with Neera Tanden and install her in the White House in a position that doesn’t involve Senate confirmation.

The Jobama administration is recycling mal-jurisprudence.

When people asked me how I could have voted for former Pres. Trump, my answer was invariably “Biden’s disgraceful record in promoting and implementing routine denial of due process in campus disciplinary proceedings when he was vice president is more than sufficient reason.”

And, it is. I doubt that Biden is a true-believer here, he’s just an opportunist willing to sacrifice young (disproportionately minority) men’s futures for his political ambitions.

BTW, the response was usually … silence. Although sometimes instead an incoherent blast of Trump Derangement Rage. What I can’t recall ever hearing was any sort of coherent rebuttal.

What leftist sewer are these frigid zombies climbing out from?

Another Communist. I’m losing count.
