White Prof Sues College Claiming Less Qualified Black Colleagues Are Paid More Than Him

The left would think it’s justified that this professor is paid less simply for being white.

A white chemistry professor in Camden, NJ, is suing his college, claiming he suffers “embarrassment and humiliation” because his less-qualified black colleagues are paid more than he is.
William T. Lavell says in his lawsuit that he has taught at Camden County College for more than 25 years, and currently earns $91,923. He holds three professional degrees in his area of certification, the lawsuit says.
But two engineering professors on the faculty earn significantly more despite having fewer professional degrees, the lawsuit says, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
One of the professors, Lawrence Chatman, earned $137,157 in 2020; the other, Melvin Roberts, currently earns $142,600.
The suit did not say how Lavell’s salary compares to the other chemistry professors in his department, the Inquirer noted.
Lavell, 66, of Annapolis, Md., discovered the salary discrepancy by asking for the college salary records under New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act.

They could render the case moot and probably save quite a bit of money by just giving him the raise. But bigots hate to give in to the people they hate. Common sense is not with them, nor humility nor grace..
More likely, they will claim that his lawsuit is proof that he is a racist and, instead of being paid more, he should be fired. Also publicly shamed.
In the sciences, especially chemistry, physics, and engineering, there are few Black people who get their graduate degrees. For example, only about 3% of physics PhDs are Black.
Far more colleges and universities are looking for Black science PhDs to fill their “diversity” quotas than there are Black PhDs available. That means there is always a bidding war among schools trying to hire “diversity” faculty. Today, nobody can hire a Black scientist without paying a substantial premium above what they would pay for a White candidate. I know, I have tried to hire “diversity” faculty on a standard budget.
Fine. But they need to learn that virtue signaling isn’t free. Now the white dudes need to make them pay for it.
As the old saying goes, employing racial discrimination to ensure racial quotas (aka diversity hires) are met is still racial discrimination.
This is not a legit lawsuit and likely has nothing to do with race. Engineering faculty are often paid more than other faculty in STEM. While STEM is fertile in almost all disciplines, Engineering is the one that academia has to compete for the most. Thus, their salaries are typically higher compared to other STEM disciplines.
irv: It’s not the #PLS class have never had to actually earn a living or pay a salary from their own pocket so they care not a whit for how much it will cost to fend off the challenge. They have all the resources of the Institution and the State to play with. What does the Professor have? Just the tender mercenary self-interests of some trial lawyers far more intent upon a settlement than justice.
