Virginia Teacher Says ‘Marxist’ Critical Race Training is Damaging the Community

“We’re told that we’re living in a county that’s suffering from systemic racism and I think that that whole notion has done nothing but damage our community and our school since they began pushing equity”

Loudoun County in Virginia has been engaged in a months-long battle between parents and officials over the direction of their public schools.

Last year, the school system spent almost half a million dollars on race-based education materials. Parents and even some teachers are objecting to the introduction of Critical Race Training.

An advanced placement teacher is the latest to speak out.

Sam Dorman reports at FOX News:

Virginia teacher says critical race theory has damaged community as frustrated parents demand changes

An Advanced Placement Government teacher in Loudoun County, Virginia is speaking out about what she calls “Marxist” ideas that have prompted intense infighting among county residents.

“We’re told that we’re living in a county that’s suffering from systemic racism and I think that that whole notion has done nothing but damage our community and our school since they began pushing equity,” teacher Monica Gill told Fox News this week.

She added that teachers were told to “disrupt and dismantle this systemic racism. And I can tell you, one thing that’s for sure, it has been disruptive because there are parents who disagree with this ideology, there are teachers who disagree with it, there are students who disagree with it — and it is harmful.”

Her comments came amid a raging debate over the county’s controversial equity and diversity trainings, forms of which have surfaced in schools across the country.

Not all of the teachers in the district agree with this view. Some of them are completely on board with the woke agenda and resent parents for objecting.

John Battiston reports at the Loudoun Times-Mirror:

Teacher accuses parent group of ‘racism’ after group criticizes LCPS equity efforts

During the April 8 meeting of the Loudoun County School Board’s Equity Committee, a Loudoun County Public Schools teacher accused a local parents group of racism in response to that group’s continued allegations that LCPS is employing critical race theory in its employee training and student curriculum — something the school system has consistently denied.

The public comments from Andrea Weiskopf — who teaches Latin at River Bend Middle School in Sterling — are the latest chapter in an ongoing conflict in the LCPS community over the school system’s “Culturally Responsive Framework.”

“Over the past few weeks, a small group of Loudoun residents have put their racism on display for the nation,” Weiskopf said.

“They have been emboldened by the meekness and the silence of those on the School Board and in the community who, just one year ago, marched boldly through the streets of Leesburg to protest the pervasive use of violence against Black and brown bodies,” she said.

It’s just astounding that parents are forced to put up with this when they are the ones financing these schools with their tax dollars.

we don’t need any stinking racism courses, all we need is for blacks to stop resisting arrest. I think it’s clear, at least it’s beginning to look as if the blacks are doing this on purpose hoping for a lawsuit, for a big Financial payout. what’s happening though is that a number of them are being killed while they’re resisting arrest instead of surviving it and getting cash as they hope

Playing the ghetto lottery. As to the purpose of the courses: destruction of unity is exactly the purpose.

“Some of them are completely on board with the woke agenda and resent parents for objecting.”

Who gives a F what they resent? It is time to start stomping black racism, make no mistake, CRT is nothing more than slickly packaged black racism.

“It’s just astounding that parents are forced to put up with this when they are the ones financing these schools with their tax dollars.”

That finance is not voluntary, nor is it contingent on public officials being responsive to the taxpayer’s.

We don’t pay our taxes so they’ll do what we want. We pay our taxes because if we don’t, they’ll destroy us.

THIS is why smaller government matters.

Anyone who falls for the Marxist rhetoric of critical race theory hasn’t been paying attention to how damaging Marxism is to those countries who historically embraced it. It is filled with false promises and brainwashing.

Can anyone explain why ANY PUBLIC SCHOOL, bust especially MIDDLE SCHOOL, needs or has a LATIN teacher???

    “Bust” should have been “but”

It is trendy to offer advanced cources to young kids and then not hold them to the standards usually associated with that course. Makes parents feel special.

Teaching a language – any language – to young children not only makes it much easier for them to learn any language later in life, it also demonstrably assists with language skills generally and has a statistically significant benefit to IQ. Latin is the basis for most European languages.

My brother started learning French in Montessori school when he was um…two I think. He speaks French like a native, with the accent his original teacher spoke. Mind you he kept up the french in high school/college but the point is, the earlier the better.

If they do it properly, I have no quarrel with it. The earlier you try to teach kids a second language, the easier they have it. I had some foreign language instruction in middle school but unfortunately not In serious enough concentration, and I was never good at it afterwards.

Don’t forget, at the time of the founders, Virginians typically graduated from “lower education” with a proficiency in both Latin and Greek.

Aren’t they supposed be teaching Latinx now instead?

It seems like critical race theory is at the very least divisive and as such counter productive?

Can anyone tell me what the Marxist link actually is, seems like a really poor conflation?
