President Joe Biden gave his first address to a joint session of Congress Wednesday night. But, as expected, he filled it with hollow “unity” rhetoric, promises of an even bigger federal government, higher taxes, stifling regulations, and pretty much everything you’d expect from a President whose strings are being pulled by the radical left.
But despite all the pre-speech hype from the mainstream media that suggested the American people were eagerly anticipating what Biden had to say, the viewership data show Biden’s numbers were way down from the four done during former President Trump’s time in office:
Nielsen now reports that an estimated 26.9 million people tuned in to watch President Biden’s inaugural address to a Joint Session of Congress. While coverage varied by network, 16 aired live coverage from approximately 9:00 p.m. ET to 10:15 p.m. ET.Out of home viewing as well as connected TV viewing are included in the 26.9 million total. Contribution coming from CTVs can be as much as 11% for televised political events.[…]As expected, that total is down from then-President Trump’s first address to Congress on Feb. 28, 2017 , which was watched by 47.7 million on 8 Nielsen-measured broadcast and cable networks, according to Nielsen.
Trump’s viewership numbers for his four State of the Union addresses were as follows: 47.74 million in 2017, 45.6 million in 2018, 46.8 million in 2019, and 37.2 million in 2020.
To add on more embarrassment for the Biden administration, as he was headed to Georgia today to promote his trillions-of-dollars COVID “relief” plan, MSNBC’s Priscilla Thompson reported that most people she’d spoken within the state did not even watch the speech:
“I’ve got to tell you, most of the folks that I’ve spoken to here did not actually watch Joe Biden’s address last night,” correspondent Priscilla Thompson revealed while reporting from Atlanta, Georgia during the left-wing cable channel’s 10:00 a.m. ET hour. She added: “I’ve spoken to around a dozen folks and only two of them watched and listened to what he had to say last night.”
NBC News/MSNBC correspondent Ellison Barber, who was reporting from Florida during the same segment, had much the same story to tell:
“Yeah, we’re seeing some of what Priscilla touched on there, about two-thirds of the people who we have tried to talk to here said they did not watch the President’s address. Not necessarily because they were boycotting it or intentionally not watching it, they just went to bed. They had to work, they had other things. This wasn’t top of their to-do list.”
Watch:
With all of that in mind, you might be interested (and amused) to find out that a much-touted CBS News poll that showed “85% of Americans” approved of Joe Biden’s speech was heavily skewed towards Democrats:
The poll was tilted heavily in favor of Democrats, CBS noted, with 54 percent of CBS viewers in the poll identifying themselves as such compared to just 18 percent who said they were Republicans and 25 percent who said they were independents.
To say the least.
