Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador blamed President Joe Biden for the migrant surge at the border.
López Obrador pointed out Biden’s campaign promises left migrants feeling like they could easily enter America.
“Expectations were created that with the Government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants,” López Obrador said at a press conference. “And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so.”
López Obrador is not lying. A Honduran migrant caravan with thousands of people started making its way to the border right before Biden’s inauguration.
A senior Biden transition team official told the Hondurans to not come to America right now. The comment ticked off the Hondurans.
The caravan did not stop. They demanded, “the Biden government honors its commitment.”
Biden reiterated his stance a week ago: “Don’t come over. Don’t leave your town or city or community.”
Biden seems to forget (what a shock, right?) what he said in 2019: “We’re a nation that says, ‘You want to flee, and you’re fleeing oppression, you should come.'”

Biden’s team in Mexico asked for more help, but want “an effective and humane plan of action.”
On Monday, Mexican Defense Secretary Luis Crescencio Sandoval said officials deployed almost 9,000 army and National Guard troops to the northern and southern borders of Mexico.
Instead of denouncing President Donald Trump’s approach as cruel and inhumane maybe Biden can learn something from it.
Trump threatened to place tariffs on Mexican goods if the country did not do anything to manage migration.
López Obrador sent about 15,000 troops to the border when faced with possible economic turmoil.
A Mexican National Guard spokesman confirmed, “there had been no significant recent increase in border deployments.”
