GOP Lawmakers Call For Pelosi To Pay Fine After She Breaks Her Own Security Screening Rule

Nancy Pelosi wanted metal detectors installed outside the House floor so that none of her fellow elected representatives could bring a gun into the chamber. Yes, it’s ridiculous and melodramatic, but so is Pelosi.

In fact, when a couple of GOP reps failed to go through the detectors, she slapped them with a $5k fine.

The New York Post reports:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has docked $5,000 each from the pay of two Republican congressmen who defied her new metal detectors, a senior Democratic aide confirms to The Post.Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) are the first to be hit with the dramatic fine, which is taken directly from their $174,000 salaries.A second offense will cost $10,000 under a policy imposed last month by Pelosi (D-Calif.) and ratified by the House this week after Republicans walked around the metal detectors or marched through them without stopping.Gohmert said that he will appeal the fine. He said that he usually complies with the metal detectors, but didn’t on a single occasion after stepping out to use the bathroom.“Unlike in the movie ‘The Godfather,’ there are no toilets with tanks where one could hide a gun, so my reentry onto the House floor should have been a non-issue,” Gohmert said in a statement.

As we have seen in particularly stark terms over the past year, Democrats love to set rules . . . for others.

So of course it didn’t take long for Pelosi to break her own security theater measures, and now Republican lawmakers want her held to the same standard she set for others.

The Hill reports:

A group of Republicans is calling for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to be fined after they say she failed to abide by newly implemented rules requiring members to go through metal detectors before entering the House chamber.Republicans on the House Administration Committee sent a letter to Acting Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy Blodgett on Friday requesting the fine, arguing Pelosi should have to abide by the new rule that she pushed to implement.”Yesterday, at approximately 9:59 am, multiple members observed the Speaker of the House entering the House Chamber without completing security screening,” the Republicans wrote on Friday.“What was observed was a clear violation of House Resolution 73 and you are required by House Rules to impose this fine. Please inform us once the fine has been assessed,” they added. “We look forward to a prompt response to this inquiry.”
