Education Secretary DeVos Resigns, Blames Trump’s Rhetoric for Capitol Hill Violence

“There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me.”

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos resigned Thursday evening.

From CNBC:

In a letter to Trump, which said she would leave office Friday, DeVos listed what she said were the successes she and Trump had in education policy.

“We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration’s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people,” DeVos wrote.

“Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people’s business,” she wrote.

“That behavior was unconscionable for our country,” DeVos wrote. “There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is an inflection point for me.”

She also noted that “impressionable children are watching from all of this, and they are learning from us.”

“I believe we each have a moral obligation to exercise good [judgment] and model the behavior we hope they would emulate,” DeVos wrote. “They must know from us that America is greather than what transpired yesterday.”

She said she was resigning “in support of the oath I took to our Constitution, our people, and our freedoms.”

DeVos condemned the riot at Capitol Hill with this tweet on Wednesday night.

It’s a bad thing when the education secretary doesn’t know what an inflection point is. Maybe it’s an EdD.

It is amazing how these spineless pols abandon anyone at the drop of a hat. DC is a cancer on the body politic.

With “friends” like these, who needs democrats?

Cabinet secretaries who resign can’t be called upon to invoke the 25th amendment.

Close The Fed in reply to Sanddog. | January 8, 2021 at 5:29 am

Bolton pointed out the flaw in the 25th.

Under it, the pres. sends a letter he can do his job. Then in effect you have two presidents vying with each other.

      Not a wise effort.

Oh, come on!

Trump was way more Trumpian than he had to be!

He is not God and this time he screwed up very badly.

IMO

It’s not exactly as though she has a lot invested in her period of “service”.

Democracy has been betrayed. It will never be restored. What we are seeing here are REVEREND Wright’s chickens returning to their roost.

So, Betsy says: “impressionable children are watching from all of this, and they are learning from us.” Sure hope the children don’t pick up on the election fraud, the cheating, and the hypocrisy of the socialists ! HAHAHA, no problem, the left controls the classrooms, so that will all be explained away.

She must think they were not watching last spring and summer.

If you want a good insight on what is going on, may I recommend the first volume of “The Gulag Archipelago”? Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn describes the interrogation and trial process used during the Stalinist era, and how it’s victims would be denounced by colleagues, friends, and even loved ones. The denunciations were often voluntary, with people eagerly willing to placate the Communists in order to save their own necks. I am convinced something similar is now going on with DeVos and others.

What was especially chilling was how the betrayers, in order to justify their participation in the shedding of innocent blood, would spin wild, extremely elaborate stories in an effort to convince themselves as much as please the Communists.

They will pick up on the censorship.

Sanddog in reply to Phil. | January 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

Pretty sure they learned more over the summer when BLM/Antifa were rioting, looting, burning and killing their way across the country.

She’s apparently a hack looking for her next job.

She’s going to be in no-man’s land, because the GOP base is going to follow Trump, leaving De Vos’ pals without a voter base.

Bye, De Vos. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass.

Doesn’t matter. Many were likely paid. They have been doing this since the 60’s. Outside agitators are what triggered the Kent State Killing.

Times change but a$$holes stay the same. They pull this crap on Nixon.

Word circulated that ANTIFA would attend. By the time the rally broke up, the greatest physical damage to the site had already been done. A man hitting a window with a pipe was discouraged by other protesters, who called out to the police.

Protesters took selfies with the police.

It is not at all clear when the mess was made in Nancy Pelosi’s office, or who made it.

This was a Chuck Schumer special.

I’m very very curious about the first hand accounts from Trump Supporters in that Hall who reported Chuck Schumer and his plains-clothed, ARMED security were in that same Hall at the time of the Democrat’s assassination…..

Speaking as a lawyer, admissions of guilt can be held against you.

I think they are fearing the retribution that is about to start getting unleashed.

Make no mistake, our government is about to be weaponized against wrong thinkers.

My head is still spinning as the double talk ensues:
There is no moral equivalent between Trump this week and the burning blue shit holes encouraged and enabled by Dems for the past 9 months. RECALL- a BLM/antifa looney EXECUTED a Trump supporter in Portland. RECALL- the lefty in Seattle who took a baseball bat to a Seattle LEOs head.

So after non-stop outsourced violence encouraged by Dems- this is where these fish decide to find legs???? Un freaking believable.

The Capital was not stormed. The Capital Police let them right in.

Bye Bye Betsy, go back to your multi-million dollar life. Trump put his reputation on the line for you. Sadly, you lack the ability to realize what a gift it was. You lack of gratitude and the love of the job makes you the cheap rich loser that is helping us destroy the middle class.

Thanks for nothing.

Off topic I guess but:

State governments (governors/sos’s/SL’s- failed.

Judicial branch/courts- failed.

And yesterday… US legislative branch- failed.

So it’s all broken. All of it. Except for a few elements in the Executive branch. And one other element that played an important but hidden role. Their story won’t even be told, not in our lifetimes anyway. Now comes the fix. Trump unleashed. Get ready to see some hard truths. Some declassification that will scorch the earth, at least the earth occupied by traitors. By the time it is said and done, we will have Patriots and traitors. Nothing in between will matter.

All anyone had to do was LISTEN to PDJT’s MESSAGE. Instead we got mindless blather and diatribes on his syntax, his attitude, his personality, his orange man badness.

The corruption will be exposed, it can’t be stopped now. The swamp tried, but they lost.

fishstick in reply to CKYoung. | January 8, 2021 at 6:19 am

to me, this is the wrong thinking that got us to this juncture

Trump could have spent the last 3 months of his presidency being more constructive towards a post-term push in being a driving force for change in the Republican party

ousting the last of the old RINO guard – and on state level – to gear up for either a third run or backing a new candidate

but instead he burnt bridges with tweets and speeches and along with it much of the reputation it took him 4+ years to establish with many voters on the right

and forget the middle-of-the-road types, they are forever gone to Trump

the Republican party needed to be changed from the inside out after this last election result

mind you – something Trump should have done to push and expose prior to the 2018 midterms but failed to do so

instead we watched as many House members bailed as the remainders stayed without consequence to stalled out any measure he tried to implement

now weeks away from being on his way out the White House door… THIS happens

large in part due to the stoking of frustrations with Republican lawmakers state-to-state and their belly up attitude

most people on this site have yet to realize, THIS riot did not endear Trump to conservative voices

regardless of IT being overplayed by the dems and media

IT is something that should not have happened and it was the last thing we needed heading into a Biden presidency

because you have to work within the system that is in place, otherwise you just have anarchy that will surely send the RINOs left of the aisle

Ronbert in reply to fishstick. | January 8, 2021 at 8:26 am

What are you doing to reform the Repubs? Or are you just a troll?

Longplay in reply to fishstick. | January 8, 2021 at 8:34 am

I tend to agree with this. I said early on that Trump having to leave was likely a foregone conclusion and that it woukd be far better to hold a counter-inauguration rally initiating a new opposition party with Trump as leader.

Dathurtz in reply to Longplay. | January 8, 2021 at 8:40 am

Yeah! We will mobilize voters for a new party. We will vote ourselves back into power and change the country!

Oh, wait. I think I found a problem with my thinking.

Temujin in reply to CKYoung. | January 8, 2021 at 2:32 pm

I will believe it, when I see it. Any amalgamation of self-appointed RULERS, aka The SWAMP, that has gained the amount of money that it has and has corrupted the civil service, as the Obama bin Biden administration did, is not going to go down easy. They have amassed the power to FIX an election for President of the United States, using a thoroughly corrupt m*r*n in pre-senile dementia, IN PLAIN VIEW. So … I will believe it, when I see it.

    HEAR.

    HEAR.

RE: “The corruption will be exposed, it can’t be stopped now. The swamp tried, but they lost.”

Many people have noticed that there are two weeks remaining. Do government employees receive severance or unemployment payments?

Thank you for your support. Go home and be safe. Or something along those lines. Can be translated to: go forth and spread social justice with prejudice.

Scott Adams has an interesting theory. A member of the female sex was targeted for abortion because members of the male sex would hesitate when the viability of the opposite sex are threatened. I wonder if this is why Liberals/feminists normalized women to serve on the front lines. A sacrificial pawn masked by a spirit of progress: one step forward, two steps backward.

    n.n in reply to n.n. | January 7, 2021 at 11:21 pm

I would think the opposite. Men are famously protective of women, and children, first. I wonder who was with her, and why she was selected.

Another day, another rat.

Congress has become the Ravenite Social Club, not the People’s anything. Well, if you’re talking about Communist China, it certainly has become The People’s Liberation Army America House.

We’re at war. Either fight, or become servile to Stacy Adams.

I am not sure what the folks leaving the administration think they are accomplishing. They will not be accepted by the.d/progressive types because they served in the Trump Admin. That isn’t going to change because they bailed out with a couple of weeks to go.

The r establishment/ never trump folks on the ‘right’ won’t forgive and forget either. Certainly whatever political entity DJT forms post Presidency won’t forgive them either.

IMO Trump’s rhetoric was no more inflammatory than we hear from speakers at various marches/protests/events for BLM etc. Certainly many d politicians have uttered some much more incendiary language this year alone. ‘Get in their faces, make them unwelcome’ Rep M Waters. More.where that came from.

I simply don’t see the upside in deserting an administration that advanced your career with a couple of weeks left. Tone deaf politically. Those DC cocktail parties must really be something special that folks act so stupidly to try to be accepted to the approved lis of acceptable attendees.

Betsy, you had one task all summer and fall, get the kids back in the classroom, you failed that task miserably.

    CommoChief in reply to buck61. | January 8, 2021 at 9:55 am

    buck61,

Nope. We live in a federal republic where individual school boards within our States make those decisions. Of course with State legislature allowing Governors to go off the rails of reality with overly broad and unending ’emergency powers’ that limits the ability of local school boards to act independently.

Thankfully we don’t have a top down from DC government; yet.

      buck61 in reply to CommoChief. | January 8, 2021 at 2:37 pm

In theory you may be correct, but the federal government’s department of education has a budget of over three billion dollars. Some of this money is for specific programs, some of it is in the form of block grants to states. That money gains significant influence over the states and local boards. There was also significant money in the Wuhan flu spending bills earmarked for education.
      A link to the budget

randian in reply to CommoChief. | January 8, 2021 at 2:44 pm

Here in FL it’s the counties doing the dirty deeds. Technically, they don’t have unending emergency powers, they’re limited to 30 days. Easily worked around by declaring a new emergency every 30 days, and the courts seem ok with that.

CommoChief in reply to randian. | January 9, 2021 at 1:40 pm

        randian,

You and buck raise similar points; local County or Municipal government officials going off the rails.

The answer, as always, is get involved. Voting is important but creating or joining a local grass roots organization to put pressure on legislative members, school boards, county commission, city council, dog catcher or whomever else is getting out of control is vital.

Numbers matter. One person’s phone call or email or old fashioned letter to the editor isn’t enough. IMO r in general do a very poor job of organizing v d/progressive. Much of the reason is basic philosophy of self reliance v dependency.

Bottom line get involved, volunteer some time to help create a local organization of like minded folks to apply political pressure. This could serve as the baseline for a future third party to challenge d/r near monopoly.

De Vos was weak tea in her job.

But look at the nightmare that is the Junta’s incoming cabinet:

https://dailycaller.com/2021/01/07/biden-cabinet-who-he-nominated/

A terrible cabinet indeed, but the true nightmare is the Democrats controlling both houses of Congress, the Presidency, and, I believe, SCOTUS. There will be no restraint on their ambitions. Expect gun control like we’ve never seen before, crushing taxes, a Biblical flood of foreign invaders, and forbidding any and all useful methods of stopping election fraud. Basically, the entire country becomes California, and they’re going to do it as fast as possible.

Lindsay Graham has joined the swamp witchhunt on us:

https://bigleaguepolitics.com/sen-lindsey-graham-is-working-with-democrats-to-prosecute-thousands-of-trump-supporters-for-sedition/

Anyone know Graham’s address? The address of his loved ones?

Typical rat jumping ship. Hold on to that career ring oldtimer.

The Friendly Grizzly | January 8, 2021 at 5:15 am

Meanwhile, let me be the one to ask this: what did she actually accomplish in her position of secretary of education?

I don’t know if she was involved, but there were some changes to the Obama insanity with Title IX. Also, I believe I am now allowed to answer religious questions from students outside of class time, though I am really hesitant to do that because it isn’t my role.

Well, she managed to let the pedophile grooming lessons continue unabated, uninteruppted, and uncondemned in our classrooms, including at the youngest age levels. I cannot understand why she did not do a single thing to stop the aberrant sex instruction, transvestite access to kindergartners during storytime, and other deviant practices that are corrosive to building mentally well-adjusted adults.

I wish the country would just eliminate the Federal Department of Indoctrination. It is unnecessary and a big waste of money. This should be a state function only.

tamboston in reply to Ghost Rider. | January 8, 2021 at 8:35 am

Our public schools are in the process of eliminating themselves because they used the COVID excuse to not open and continue to be paid. Private schools all over the country are open for business and doing fine.

    Unnecessary? It is actively harmful.

Another TRAITOR falls by the wayside. President Trump did NOT cause that fiasco at the Capitol yesterday ! What he said was NOT inflammatory, and the Republicans that are saying that he did, are LIARS, and back stabbing TRAITORS ! It is bad enough that the obnoxious Democrats jumped on the bandwagon, crucifying our President, but to have people that you THOUGHT were on your side come out with those comments is particularly shameful ! The problem yesterday was caused by ANTIFA THUGS, NOT by Trump, or Trump supporters !

Unless there is a successful revolt to restore Constitutional principles, the Republic is lost. The “Progress”ive Empire begins, led by Joseph Caesar.

Pray for the guidance and mercy of God.
.

( don’t understand the point of resigniing in the last couple of weeks of a Presidency. Virtue signalling is useless. You will not suddenly be forgiven by those who hate you, Worse, you are acting before you do if it turns out the whole thing was orchestrated by Antifa? Do you still blame Trump or ask for your job back, I seems to be both a hasty decision and the useless gesture of Animal House.

Political correctness is such a wonderful thing; look at all the people exposing themselves for all the world to see.

barbiegirl ny | January 8, 2021 at 11:04 am

Another Judas rat to jump ship. Wonder whose alimentary canal her nose if firmly implanted in order to remain in that sewage plant known as DC.

The visual I get with these “I just discovered I am a anti-trumper folks” is someone rushing to a stoning and pushing and shoving to get at the pile of stones.

The same deep state that stole the election planted the Antifa with the Trump supporters for the False Flag break-in at the capitol. There are a lot of panicked rats fleeing Trump and swimming for the commie canoes.
