Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine 94.5% Effective in Late Stage Trials
The company plans to have 20 million doses by the end of 2020.
Moderna’s vaccine to protect people from COVID-19 has an efficacy of 94.5% in late-stage trials.
The news came a week after Pfizer announced its vaccine is 90% effective.
Moderna’s vaccine also means that the United States will have over 1 billion vaccines for its 330 million citizens.
The company plans to have 20 million doses by the end of 2020.
Moderna explained its process:
The primary endpoint of the Phase 3 COVE study is based on the analysis of COVID-19 cases confirmed and adjudicated starting two weeks following the second dose of vaccine. This first interim analysis was based on 95 cases, of which 90 cases of COVID-19 were observed in the placebo group versus 5 cases observed in the mRNA-1273 group, resulting in a point estimate of vaccine efficacy of 94.5% (p <0.0001).
A secondary endpoint analyzed severe cases of COVID-19 and included 11 severe cases (as defined in the study protocol) in this first interim analysis. All 11 cases occurred in the placebo group and none in the mRNA-1273 vaccinated group.
The 95 COVID-19 cases included 15 older adults (ages 65+) and 20 participants identifying as being from diverse communities (including 12 Hispanic or LatinX, 4 Black or African Americans, 3 Asian Americans and 1 multiracial).
The interim analysis included a concurrent review of the available Phase 3 COVE study safety data by the DSMB, which did not report any significant safety concerns. A review of solicited adverse events indicated that the vaccine was generally well tolerated. The majority of adverse events were mild or moderate in severity. Grade 3 (severe) events greater than or equal to 2% in frequency after the first dose included injection site pain (2.7%), and after the second dose included fatigue (9.7%), myalgia (8.9%), arthralgia (5.2%), headache (4.5%), pain (4.1%) and erythema/redness at the injection site (2.0%). These solicited adverse events were generally short-lived. These data are subject to change based on ongoing analysis of further Phase 3 COVE study data and final analysis.
Preliminary analysis suggests a broadly consistent safety and efficacy profile across all evaluated subgroups.
The vaccine “does not need ultra-cold storage,” unlike Pfizer’s vaccine. This will help distribution.
Like Pfizer, Moderna will submit its vaccine “for an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the coming weeks and anticipates having the EUA informed by the final safety and efficacy data (with a median duration of at least 2 months).”

Are you really as stupid as you sound? Elderly people far more often than not have comorbidities and are extremely susceptible to virtually ANY virus or bacteria. Even the CDC admitted that 94% of the people they claimed have died from Covid had comorbidities that would have killed them soon even without a Covid infection. The overwhelming majority of everyone else have little or nothing to fear from this virus. But they have much to fear from a vaccine that has not been given time to be tested properly for safety and possible long-term negative effects. Vaccines usually take 4-6 years to be approved so the “authorities” can see if any long-term effects show themselves. All of those safety protocols have been thrown out the window this time, in addition to which all of these Covid vaccines are using a new technology THAT HAS NEVER BEFORE BEEN TESTED ON HUMANS. So you go right ahead to the front of the line.

Im a pass on the Chinese Death Kooties vaccine for now. I dont see any reason to take this given the Chinese Lung Aids is only marginally more dangerous than the common cold. But you know…I could change my mind IF I move in to an at risk group, turn 80 or am forced on punishment of imprisonment by the Government to take it…and even then the Government can go fuck itself.
If you aren’t in a high risk group, you should definitely take your time, and wait to find out what the side effects are. There will be people who react badly to it, and that information comes only after a few million doses.
That said, I’ll get it, probably for next flu season. I expect people who have had pneumonia several times and who have noisy responses to staph might be in a high, as yet unidentified, risk group.
But if you do get sick, get tested, and then DEMAND TREATMENT. In California, if you are symptomatic, positive for COVID, and not yet deathly ill, they send you home, untreated.
You can shop for a doctor who will prescribe outpatient treatment, and you can get hydroxychloroquine with a prescription, from CVS (but not VONS).
It’s an mRNA vaccine. All such vaccines, prior to this one, have failed FDA approval because they induce (I do not mean exacerbate, though they may do that too, but induce) autoimmune disorders in a significant percentage of patients. It’s suspicious to me that no mention is made of this. I’m waiting to see how this plays out, because I want to know how these vaccine manufacturers have fixed this problem, if indeed they have fixed it rather than glossing over and it and letting the Federal immunity shield keep them out of trouble.
No, it doesn’t mean there will be over 1 billion doses of vaccine available to United States citizens. Because remember that a member of Biden’s “Covid-19 Advisory Board” recommended that the vaccine be distributed globally before it is available to all United States citizens because that would be the only “fair” way to do it.

99%, maybe. We know from global outcomes (i.e. signal diversity) that early treatments (e.g. HCQ cocktail) reduce mortality and hospitalization by 80 to 90% of the fractional at-risk population. Perhaps more in individual cases.
Dr. Zelenko reported over 99% success, of patients who came to him complaining of possible Covid. Some other doctor recently was also saying around 99%. Of course it depends how long you wait, every day hurts a lot.

While I consider this good news, and I’m not terribly high risk (62, excellent health), I still think I will let someone else go first.
I’m 71, survivor of one cancer, dealing with another (CLL), and diabetic. I will still refuse the vaccine.
I am not an anti-vaxxer. But, two new vaccines arriving on the scene “just in the nick of time” has my caution light blinking. Other vaccines take years for approval, these took weeks or months.

If my understanding in correct, no one has ever been able to design a vaccine for any coronavirus — ever — and yet, now we have two, both touted as highly efficient.

They’re not vaccines in the traditional sense. They rewrite your DNA, using either rDNA or mRNA. Are people willing to have worm DNA written into the DNA of them and their offspring forever?

Or, all 62 residents in fragile health who required nursing home care caught Covid and in spite of their fragile health 52 recovered. So yeah, the human immune system is kinda awesome.
That, or Covid is a whole lot of nothing. When they need to puff up the figures with those who died of heart attacks and motorcycle wrecks, I become sceptical.

COVID-19 is a viral disease which MAY be as little as 1% fatal. That is id the infection rate and death rate are both accurate. Not really apocalyptic. But, people are pushing largely untested vaccines which PROBABLY will produce significant negative side effects? Has anyone ever watched a commercial for prescription medicines on TV? One can remove wrinkles but can leave you blind, deaf and paralyzed. So, live with crows feet or be a drooling vegetable for the rest of your life? And, this is an approved medical treatment.
The media, medical profession and government has been lying to people for decades about vaccines. The side effects are so prevalent and egregious that the US Congress established legal immunity for vaccine manufactures and set up a special vaccine court to hear any and all vaccine damage cases. Unfortunately, it is no longer a free country. In many places, vaccine administration is mandatory under government regulations. So, take a number and get in line for your unproven COVID-19 vaccination.
Let me try to understand this. If you are infected by Covid, you have a 99% chance of surviving. But if you get the vaccine, you only have a 95% chance of surviving. Sign me up!!
