Criminalizing Politics: Michigan GOP Lawmakers Threatened With Criminal Investigation For Meeting With Trump On Certification

Last week, some Michigan lawmakers met with Trump to discuss the certification of the election. They are now facing threats of criminal investigation from the attorney general of Michigan.
This comes after members of Trump’s legal team have faced threats for nothing more than representing the President of the United States.

We have been discussing the campaign of The Lincoln Project and others to harass and abuse lawyers who represent the Trump campaign or other parties bringing election challenges. Similar campaigns have targeted election officials who object to counting irregularities. Now, the Michigan Attorney General and others are suggesting that Republicans who oppose certification or even meet with President Donald Trump on the issue could be criminally investigated or charged. Once again, the media is silent on this clearly abusive use of the criminal code target members of the opposing party in their raising objections under state law.
On Friday afternoon, leaders of Michigan’s Republican-controlled state legislature met with Trump in the White House at his invitation. My column today explores the difficulty in any strategy to trigger an electoral college fight. However, the objections from legislators could focus on an host of sworn complaints from voters or irregularities in voting counts…
According to the Washington Post, Dana Nessel “is conferring with election law experts on whether officials may have violated any state laws prohibiting them from engaging in bribery, perjury and conspiracy.” It is same weaponization of the criminal code for political purposes that we have seen in the last four years against Trump. Notably, the focus is the same discredited interpretation used against Trump and notably not adopted by the impeachment-eager House Judiciary Committee: bribery.
Turley noted the media’s shocking silence over this on Twitter:
…Imagine if this was AG Barr threatening Democratic legislators with criminal investigation for challenging Trump votes. The media would be apoplectic. Yet, when used against Republicans, there is a celebration for the use of the criminal code for politically motivated threats.

When the media does take notice, they push the idea of criminality. Turley points to this Politico piece by Richard Primus:
The scheduled meeting threatens two kinds of danger. At the largest level, it threatens the system of democratic presidential elections: If state officials start claiming the right to overturn elections because of vague claims about “fraud,” our democratic system will be unworkable. But in a more specific and immediate way, it threatens the two Michigan legislators, personally, with the risk of criminal investigation.
Turley continues:
What is most disturbing is that, if there was an objection to voting irregularities or fraud, these legislators would be acting under their state constitutional authority. They would be investigated for carrying out their official duties under state law. Many of us can disagree with such objections. (I have stated repeatedly that I do not see the evidence of systemic voting problems to reverse such state results and I have criticized President Trump’s rhetoric). However, when Democrats like Sen. Barbara Boxer (D., Cal.) challenged the certification of Ohio’s electoral votes in 2004, no one suggested criminal investigations.
Democrats have used a ‘by any means necessary’ approach to getting rid of Trump for the last four years. They’re not in a position to threaten anyone over political norms.

So…. are those Republicans going to heel? This is another golden moment for Republicans to unite and stand strong. Confront that attorney general and have HIM investigated! This is the time to confront this mafia everywhere at the same time. We know the DOJ won’t do it.

Furthermore, the move of some Republican senators to demand Trump concede NOW suggests desperation mixed with stupidity by those RINOs and their handlers. Franklin’s admonition about essential liberties and temporary “safety” rings loudly.
This strongly suggests the investigation into the election fraud has teeth…more like fangs. We shall see but the attempt to pull back the country from finding out the truth ,one way or another, will abolish any hope of truth in the future. Get ready for Cat 5 turbulence from the Left to avoid

The Michigan legislature is largely populated with GOP-e cowards. They’ve done nothing to stop the governor from becoming a wuhan-flu-dictator, and have already publicly declared Biden to be the winner of MI’s election.

It might be possible to sue the Michigan AG on section 1983 action for suppression of the plaintiff’s constitutional right to free speech and free association. Such an action may even be able to pierce the “government employee” protections she otherwise enjoys and go after her personally. In any case, discovery would be interesting.

ONE Senator? By my count that is at least four (Cramer, Toomey, Collins and Romneycare) who are already sucking up to the Harris/Biden regime.
Romney will apparently be leaving the Senate to join the hypothetical Biden administration.
Maybe. But I wonder if this is a rumor started by Romneycare himself. John McCain was openly lobbying to be John Kerry’s running mate in 2004, and that went exactly nowhere.

The strongest sign of fraud is the vehement opposition to investigating fraud. The innocent welcome demonstrating their innocence — the guilty fear exposure.
This is the same state where they only got the vote certified by doxxing the Republican elections board and threatening their families…. and it’s on tape.
Michigan’s AG Dana Nessel should be investigated for any connection to a national conspiracy to commit election fraud, be tried, disbarred and placed in prison with her fan club of convicted criminals. Is this an under color of law situation?
Small problem: Investigated by whom? More to the point, prosecuted by whom? Only the executive can bring a prosecution.
You can feel the greedy little fingers of Democrats as they grasp for the levers of power in order to punish those who they oppose. The next AG is going to be the tipping point. It’s not going to be Warren or anybody we’ve seen on the political stage before, but somebody the DNC can use like a club to bludgeon Trump, Sidney, and anybody else they can unleash the full power of government prosecution upon.
Flynn was merely the first. They want to bankrupt their ideological foes, drive them from the public square by censoring their access to media, tie them up in a thousand lawsuits and criminal prosecutions, and ultimately jail them with gag orders so merely speaking up in their own defense is punishable. Such nice brown shirts doth the Dems wear in these times.
If they were really tough repubs, they’d strip the budget of wHitler’s taxpayer funded security detail, cut the AG’s budget to bare bones so she can’t grandstand and put into the budget enough money for more voter overwatch. If anyone tries to kick a watcher out, then the state police are to come and arrest the one kicking out the watchers. That would take away the mayors power to ignore this travesty.
A ten year felony penalty would fit nicely for those arrested.
Sounds like an open-and-shut case of contempt of the legislature. This is the kind of thing Charles I got his head cut off for.
