Less than a week after the mainstream media arbitrarily declared the Democratic candidate the winner of the U.S. presidential race, Communist China has congratulated Joe Biden on his electoral ‘victory.’ Recognizing Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris as the “choice of the American people,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin on Friday congratulated “Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris.”
The Associated Press reported Beijing’s message to the Biden-Harris camp:
China on Friday became one of the last major countries to congratulate U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, who is expected to make few changes to U.S. policy in conflicts with Beijing over trade, technology and security.China, along with Russia, avoided joining the throng that congratulated Biden last weekend after he and vice presidential running mate Kamala Harris secured enough Electoral College votes to unseat President Donald Trump.“We respect the choice of the American people,” said a foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin. “We congratulate Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris.”
As the U.S. media crowns the Democratic ticket as the winner in the presidential election, the Communist regime has reportedly opened a “backchannel” with the Biden-Harris team. Beijing wants a ‘reset’ on President Donald Trump’s America First policy which sought to bring back manufacturing jobs and cut bilateral trade deficit, Chinese news reports say.
Hong Kong daily South China Morning Post reported the backdoor diplomacy:
China and the United States have revived stalled backchannel diplomacy, seeking to reset their stormy relationship in the wake of the US presidential election.The semi-official communication channel – often conducted through former officials, think tanks and business leaders – has traditionally been an important conduit for the two sides to exchange candid views and float ideas before more formal contacts.Such communication had stopped in recent months as the relationship went into deep freeze, a Chinese government adviser told the South China Morning Post.But the semi-official exchanges have resumed.“A while ago, people in the United States dared not to talk to us [because of the toxic relationship]. This has changed, particularly from the Democrats side. The semi-official exchanges have again resumed,” Wang Xiangsui, a well-connected professor at Beihang University in Beijing, told an audience at a closed-door forum last month. His speech has only now been made public.Wang said several people closely associated with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden had recently contacted China and talked to Chinese think tanks about how to reset the relationship between the world’s two biggest economies.
While the rulers in Beijing hope for a return of Obama-era policies of submission and appeasement, the Trump administration is showing no sign of letting up on its stance to counter China’s global designs.
In the latest move, the White House targeted Chinese companies linked to the regime’s military establishment. “The Trump administration on Thursday unveiled an executive order prohibiting U.S. investments in Chinese companies that Washington says are owned or controlled by the Chinese military, ramping up pressure on Beijing after the U.S. election,” Reuters reported.
Earlier this week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters that the Trump administration was “not finished yet” dealing with the Chinese Communist Party. He called the regime in Beijing a “Marxist-Leninist monster” whose rule is “authoritarian, brutish and antithetical to human freedom.” Secretary Pompeo, much to the mainstream media’s outrage, also vowed a “smooth transition to second Trump administration” despite foreign leaders lining up prematurely to congratulate Biden and Harris on their ‘win.’
During the election campaign, President Trump often attacked his Democratic rival’s checkered record on China. When the White House imposed a nationwide travel ban on China in January 2020 in wake of the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, Biden opposed the measure calling it ‘xenophobic.’
While the mainstream media has been obsessed with the non-existent Russia collusion devised to disrupt and tarnish President Trump’s first term, there has been a near-total silence on Biden’s China problem. Joe Biden’s son Hunter has run into trouble for his business relations with regime-linked Chinese companies. Last month, Biden family business partner Tony Bobulinski exposed Biden’s dealings with an energy company close to the Chinese Communist regime. Bobulinski called Biden a “compromised” candidate who was aware of his son’s questionable dealings with the Chinese.
