University of Maine Student Facing Charges for Allegedly Voting as Roommate
“It is a serious crime in Maine to cast or attempt to cast an illegal vote, either absentee or in person.”
This is ridiculous, if true. Why would someone put their future at risk in such a way for just one vote?
The Associated Press reports via Boston.com:
University of Maine student accused of voting as roommate
A University of Maine student is facing criminal charges for voting with an absentee ballot in the name of a former roommate, officials said Tuesday.
Local election officials in Orono discovered the potential violation before the ballot was processed and alerted the secretary of state’s office, which relayed the information to state prosecutors.
“It is a serious crime in Maine to cast or attempt to cast an illegal vote, either absentee or in person. My office will vigorously investigate and prosecute any allegations of election fraud,” said Attorney General Aaron Frey.
The crime appeared to have more to do with a “personal dispute between former roommates, rather than an effort to influence the outcome of the election,” said Marc Malon, a spokesperson for the attorney general.
Alyssa Dau, 19, of Bowdoinham, faces charges of voting in the name of another and forging the name of another on an absentee ballot return envelope, according to the criminal complaint. Both are punishable by up to five years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
At the University of Maine, Dau made the dean’s list in the spring of 2020, according to the university’s online list. A message left at her Bowdoinham home wasn’t immediately returned.

Kids don’t see consequences as easily these days as a result of a lack of discipline in school and home life. Many of them just do whatever they want to do.
They also know that the likelihood of being hit with the fyll fine and/or prison term is virtually nil.
I suspect that a lot of college students vote at home and register also where they attend school.
Athens county in Ohio has a large student population who are not on campus to my knowledge. It will be interesting to see how local elections swing if a significant percentage of student ballots aren’t cast this year.
I am wondering about that also. Maybe Mike can give us the benefit of his knowledge on this matter. This comment on another site also makes me wonder…..
“Larry Sweickart has pointed out that all the University Students are scattered out and the 45000 missing students at Ann Arbor could be quite a Democrat loss.
Other large institutions throughout the Rust Belt are also not in session.
He believes the Democrats shot themselves in the foot.”

It’s an interesting question…. my personal conspiracy is that the Biden Laptop is real, or at least the contents are (whether they were stolen elsewhere and placed in one convenient package to be ‘discovered’ is a separate question). The Democrats have known that this time bomb has been out there waiting for October to go off. Then there really is the question of Biden’s ‘weariness’ et al.
These things being in play, the best response was to push for early voting to garner as many as possible before the bomb went off or Biden made a gaffe that was impossible to ignore. The mail in voting also best lends itself to manipulation as we have seen.
The decrease of college votes was either an unforeseen consequence or, more likely, determined to be easily replaced by simply ginning up some extra mail-in ballots for the counts in friendly cities..
