Trump versus Coronavirus – You Will Watch

Trump versus Coronavirus – You Will Watch

Trump contracting the virus may inure to his political benefit — assuming he survives it.

I never got to write the post about how the chaos of the first presidential debate may end up helping Trump because he came across as strong, and Biden as weak. The conventional wisdom was to the contrary.

That debate now seems like a gazillion years ago. Trump testing positive for coronavirus took the debate off the screens, giving rise to initial Resistance claims that Trump made it up, that he really didn’t test positive.

For once in its miserable existence, the Resistance may be onto something — not about faking a positive test, but that Trump contracting the virus may inure to his political benefit — assuming he survives it.

Trump is the master of the reality show, and now he is the complete center of attention with the whole world watching. Trump meets Survivor.

You will watch. You can’t not watch.

(Partial transcript auto-generated, emphasis added)

I want to begin by thanking all of the incredible medical professionals, the doctors, the nurses, everybody at Walter Reed medical center. I think it’s the finest in the world for the incredible job they’ve been doing. I came here, wasn’t feeling so well. I feel much better now. We’re working hard to get me all the way back.

I have to be back because we still have to make America great. Again, we’ve done an awfully good job of that, but we still have steps to go and we have to finish that job and I’ll be back. I think I’ll be back soon.

And I look forward to finishing up the campaign the way it was started and the way we’ve been doing and the kind of numbers that we’ve been doing. We’ve been so proud of it, but this was something that happened and it’s happened to millions of people all over the world and I’m fighting for them, not just in the U.S. I’m fighting for them all over the world.

We’re going to beat this coronavirus or whatever you want to call it. And we’re going to beat it soundly.

So many things have happened. If you look at the therapeutics which I’m taking right now, some of them and others are coming out soon that are looking like, frankly, they’re miracles. If you want to know the truth, there are miracles. People criticize me when I say that, but we have things happening that look like they’re miracles coming down from God. So I just want to tell you that I’m starting to feel, I feel good.

You don’t know over the next period of a few days, I guess that’s the real test. So we’ll be seeing what happens over those next, next couple of days. I just want to be so thankful for all of the support I’ve seen, whether it’s on television or reading about it. Uh, I, most of all appreciate what’s been said by the American people, by almost a bipartisan consensus of American people. It’s a beautiful thing to see, and I very much appreciate it. And I won’t forget it promise you that….

They know what as your leader, what I have to go through, but I had no choice because I just didn’t want to stay in the White House. I was given that alternative, stay in the White House, lock yourself in, don’t ever leave. Don’t even go to the oval office, just stay upstairs and enjoy it. Don’t see people, don’t talk to people and just be done with it. And I can’t do that.

I had to be out front and this is America. This is the United States. This is the greatest country in the world. This is the most powerful country in the world. I can’t be locked up in a room upstairs and totally safe and just say, Hey, whatever happens happens. I can’t do that. We have to confront problems, as a leader, you have to confront problems. There’s never been a great leader that would have done that….

So I just want to thank everybody out there, everybody all over the world, specifically the United States, the outpouring of love has been incredible. I will never forget. Thank you very much.

I felt an energy coming from Trump in this video. He senses an opportunity.

This video shows a man who is not in great distress from the ChinaVirus. It seems that whomever is claiming that our President is in far worse shape than we are being told is a liar.

No sign of shortness of breath through a 5 minute talk. No sign of issues with his voice.

It is still early on, and things can change, but President Trump is in decently good health, other than being a bit overweight, and his work ethic to work so many hours a day has built up his constitution.

If he beats this relatively quickly, it would put a big crimp in the fear mongers pushing second wave fears. This virus hitting the WH and inner circle might have a positive benefit, showing many people that this virus might not as bad as is claimed by the propagandists.

Deadly to certain portions of our population, but not a death sentence.

I thought he seemed mildly out of breath, but not as much as I expected. His pallor I attributed to his orange makeup being left back at the White House. Seriously, though, he did seem good, and he did caution that the next couple of days could be telling. All in all, this was comforting.

He seems like anyone with a cold: slightly hoarse voice, and a bit breathy.

    So far, so good.

    Sanddog in reply to oldgoat36. | October 4, 2020 at 2:32 am

His doctor reported his fasting blood sugars are normal so being a bit overweight isn’t necessarily going to be a problem with Covid.

cali sol in reply to oldgoat36. | October 5, 2020 at 10:03 am

My reaction is that Trump is strong enough to beat the world’s worse virus; but can Biden?

Our President will be just fine.
He is a very strong man, full of energy and vitality, and love of life.
The Democrats are trying to make hay of it, and will use this at every turn to block him.
They will likely refuse to be in his presence even after two weeks and a clean bill of health.
This is only lacking a nice ribbon on it for them.
This will be interesting.

Trump had his worst ratings on Covid handling. Compared to Biden, who would not have blocked people from China, or Cuomo, with all his nursing home deaths, Trump is a star. However, the Dems will blast him even more – “See, he could not even protect himself or his wife.”

I came here, wasn’t feeling so well.

Although DJT is a natural showman, this isn’t his usual style of show. Which implies that this excitement wasn’t caused by a mere positive result of a test; he was actually starting to become ill. However, even considering that, he sounds pretty normal here.

Although PDJT certainly doesn’t need my advice, I wouldn’t have cited God in there. Among other things, He created viruses, and believers will probably believe He sends them wherever He sees a need (or, à la Job, to win a bet). There are doubtless people looking for portents of the ten plagues of Washington, and there’s no real need to give them a free boost.

Well, go pat yourself on the back. But don’t count on my vote when you run for President if you don’t have something more concrete to offer.

In most theodicies, there is a distinction between creating and allowing.

The Fall occurred because of a volitional choice, and so the response was illness and death.

Whether this leaked out of a lab in Wuhan, or deliberately released (I don’t believe the latter but am looking at possible choices) I don’t see how God is the author of this

    Did

      tom_swift in reply to mochajava76. | October 4, 2020 at 4:48 am

In most theodicies, there is a distinction

Do you seriously think the undecided American voter is interested in this? All he sees and thinks is, “those conservatives are all Bible-thumbers” (or, I imagine, Tonakh-thumpers), and therefore by definition have nothing of logical or factual interest to say. Whether you or I agree with this is not the question.

In my experience, even very intelligent leftoids (yes, there are such animals; I know many, and I imagine there are a few more scattered around the rest of the country) find it easy to avoid even considering conservative input because it’s so easily pigeonholed as “religious.” Which is too bad; I think rather a lot of them could be persuadable were it not for the religious angle.

I’ve said before that the “religious right” is the Achilles’ heel of American conservatism. But since not one in twenty LI readers will have the slightest idea what I’m talking about, I won’t explicate the argument again.

    Barry in reply to tom_swift. | October 4, 2020 at 10:48 am

“Which implies that this excitement wasn’t caused by a mere positive result of a test; he was actually starting to become ill.”

Ah, no kidding. Nice that you’ve caught on.

While President Trump has me beat by 6 years or so in age, like me he is in very good health. I do have him beat a bit on height at 6’4 and a bit less in the weight department at 220. I almost never get sick, and am on no meds. When I got the virus very early in Feb it kicked me for a week or so, but I worked 12 hours per day during that time and took nothing more than ibuprofen.

It’s not the least bit surprising that this man would contract the chinaVirus given that he refuses to hide in the basement cowering in fear. It’s not the least bit surprising that he should feel some ill effects given his age. It’s not the least bit surprising that he would be working through it given his work ethic.

All this proves is President Trump is human and in excellent heath, both physically and mentally.

Dead by Wednesday night.

Book it.

He’ll survive it. They all will.

If these nip it in the budd treatments are successful and there is a smooth recovery, this could segway into Trump adopting a softer style that will allow more people to be receptive to his policies and rationales, which are far superior to the alternative, and not only his personality. Who knows, he could become a beloved figure. That would be a trip.

We keep hearing about “the silent majority” and that Trump is the “only man between us and the socialist/communist mob” …

In the vein of “all things work together for good” perhaps Trump getting ill is our call to muster … time for the “silent majority” to show up and march – time to have the back of Trump who has been fighting for us. There is a sense in which we need to become Trump … I’d draw on that closing scene of the Spartacus movie, but Corey Booker ruined that forever. Still it’s amusing to imagine a remake … and countless orange-skinned corn-tassle-haired militants standing and claiming “I am Trump!” Ha!

VaGentleman in reply to MrE. | October 4, 2020 at 7:13 am

True. Also time to start planning for when he isn’t here – like 4 yrs from now. It’s not too early to start thinking about 24 if we want the deconstruction of the deep state to continue.

MrE – True, I have had similar thoughts.

Even with the bug, Trump looks stronger and more alert than Sleepy Joe. He looks like he’s ready for another debate tomorrow.

I don’t believe there is any substantial risk to Trump with this virus, for several reasons:
1. In the last 6 months, the doctors have learned a lot about treating the disease, and they have much better protocols.
2. They quickly began treatment with the two most potent drugs, remdesivir and an antibody cocktail. That should lessen the severity of the disease.
3. This (originally bat) virus mutates quickly, and the current strains are better adapted to humans. They are more contagious and less lethal in humans.

Once Trump is over this, I imagine he’ll take advantage of the fact that he can’t catch it again and can’t pass it on.

Yes I realize there have been a handful of cases where people have caught it twice, out of the millions who have been infected. But Trump has been vaccinated by the disease itself, and like Judge Barrett, has a minuscule chance of catching it again.

My kid, who has been studying this virus in his epidemiology classes, says the quick onset of symptoms, breathiness and high viral load, combined, of course, with the age group, are all alarming signs of a possible severe case. He mentioned Herman Cain as an example.

For myself, I’m looking for the ionophore to get the zinc he is taking into the right set of cells, plus 2 1/2 days to get viral reproduction in hand. I don’t see it in the information that has been released thus far.

We have a timeline: Onset of some kind of symptoms Thursday, hospitalization and first experimental treatment with monoclonal antibodies Friday evening, a claim he feels better by Saturday afternoon.

I think the doctors will know if this is a simple case by tomorrow morning. If he’s a terrible patient, we will all be happy.

We also have the use of melatonin, allegedly for inflammation, but probably also in a vain hope for it’s soothing effect: the good doctors are not used to treating a ball of fire.

I wish the cocktail had included hydroxychloroquine for both medical and political reasons. I have read that early use enhances the effectiveness of the zinc in reducing the viral load; and is safe, per many decades of use worldwide for other conditions. What we need is something that costs pennies, not thousands for a course of treatment. Ivermectin is another cheap, safe one used worldwide for other conditions, including with dogs, that is showing promise.

      notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to jb4. | October 4, 2020 at 12:05 am

      Yes.

Also that quinine as used in tonic water defeats all flu according to a 2007 study.

he’s not taking HCQ for financial reasons. a man named joe grogan was , until recently, employed as an advisor to the president. grogan and the current sec. of HHS both have deep and long standing ties to big pharma. both were lobbyists for drug makers. they both have ties to covid meds manufacturers. specifically gilead sciences the makes Remdesivir and Regeneron that makes REGN-COV2.
Remdesivir is a drug that failed at fighting ebola.
REGN-COV2 is so new it’s only been tested on mice.
      ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MONEY

He’s not taking the HCQ because there were concerns of interactions with the two other experimental drugs he’s taking. His doctors weighed the risk benefits and made a choice.

Herman Cain had Stage 4 colon cancer and beat it. He was on enough medications which suppressed his immune system. Of all people, he should never have been in ANY type of crowd.

Barry in reply to Valerie. | October 4, 2020 at 10:59 am

“My kid, who has been studying this virus in his epidemiology classes, says…”

Hope your kid learns a lesson about trying to diagnose from media reports when doctors with complete educations and years of experience are often wrong.

My guess remains the same, the president will be fine because he is in the top 5% of the 95% of those his age that have only small issues. It is just a guess but based upon the statistical data easily available to anyone that wishes to review it.

“Yes I realize there have been a handful of cases where people have caught it twice, out of the millions who have been infected.”

That’s the way it is supposed to work. In both cases, I know about (perhaps there are a few more), they were incidentally retested and it was found. Neither was ill. If you stand in a room with people symptomatic with the measles, you will pick up a viral load – and if you were tested you might well test positive – but you won’t get the measles if you have previously had it or were vaccinated.

It’s odd to me that PDJT mentioned HQC and the left went ballistic over it. But then he took it for several weeks as a prophylactic. He stopped taking HQC, and now has come down with the China virus. Now it’s reported he has been treated with Remdesivir via IV. Almost as if PDJT is a covid Pioneer, hacking his way through the wilderness of fear over this disease. Multi-billionaire bill gates has been dabbling in the world of vaccines and viruses for years, and has been very public about it. I don’t think it is implausible that PDJT has also been working in this field, but very privately. PDJT seems to be way ahead of his detractors on every subject, I don’t discount he is way ahead here too. What better way to show the public there is hope against the kung flu, while showing the CCP their wuhan lab failed.

Ivermectin didn’t work on my dog

It will be interesting to see how all the governors who are still holding their states hostage will deal with the news of the president’s successful recovery.

I’m just going to drop this, here.

Many thanks to our friends and family in DC, who came out to let him know.

Trump will, of course, find a way to spin this to the nation’s benefit.

I had hoped for far more progress being made in swamp draining and prosecuting traitors by this time, so Trump can not be taken off the field now or lose next month’s election, or all progress made to date will be lost. A second term is essential if we want to truly see America made great again.

Saw it on OAN, still have my fingers crossed for sp

“ We’re going to beat this coronavirus or whatever you want to call it.”….. what happened to it came from CHY-NUH..?

by and large the media dropped the covid19 name weeks ago. most have referred to it as coronavirus. this generic name includes dozens of other viruses. i find it odd to say the least.
either covid19 is real and they would call it such. or, they have no idea if it exists or not. by using the less specific word they seem to be covering their bets.
for example, if you have blood cancer it’s called lymphoma. your doctor would likely use the specific name. it’s unlikely he/she would simply tell you, i’m sorry you have cancer.

Milhouse in reply to schafph. | October 5, 2020 at 1:20 am

Um, are you disputing that it did come from China? Or that many viruses that plague us come from there?

First of all we all really need to be patient for the next ten days. We will have to how the infection runs its course. Trump may experience severe symptoms of the disease. Then again, he may not.

Over my 60+ years of life, I have had influenza infections on more than one occasion. Sometimes, the symptoms were very mild and at other times, I was laid up for several days with a high fever and other symptoms. And, my age seems to have little affect on whether I suffered a mild or severe case. Sometimes, therapeutic treatments helped and other times they did not. That is life. Every case is different. So, about all that you can do, in such cases, is rest, engage i certain therapeutic regimens and wait for the outcome.

Now, politically, when Trump recovers, how this is all spun and how wide the audience that can be reached is will determine whether it i pro or con. Right now, the anti-Trump political spin merchants are the only ones on the field. They are spinning this as evidence that Trump’s stance on addressing the virus was wrong and that is incompetent because he could not protect himself. His illness is being used to reinforce the media narrative that COVID can only be defeated if we destroy our society. The alternative narrative will require that Trump get well and bet back to making public appearances.

So, how could this be spun in a positive manner for Trump, politically? First, because he survived the disease. Given his age, he is in a higher risk category than the majority of the populous. If he can survive it, most people will do the same. It is not the Boogeyman portrayed by the media. Second, It reinforces the position that there is no way to avoid exposure to the virus, except by divorcing one’s self from all societal contact. But that, because of the efforts of the medical and pharmaceutical industries at the direction of DJT, contracting the virus is survivable. Third, it enhances his image as a dynamic leader. While it makes more sense, strategically, leaders who lead from the front, sharing the dangers with their people, are much more highly respected, by those people. Biden, on the other hand, divorced himself from society and only made infrequent virtual foray outside his bunker during this period. This should not only cement his support with the base, but gain him support from other areas of the population.

So, in the next few days, we will see how the POTUS weathers the infection. If he comes out in good shape, then he will enjoy a positive political position. In the meantime the negative spin will continue. We will just have to be patient.

    Barry in reply to Mac45. | October 4, 2020 at 11:07 am

“So, how could this be spun in a positive manner for Trump, politically?”

No spin required, just the truth:

This president never cowered in a basement in fear of a virus.
This president continues to work while suffering the symptoms.
This president will quickly recover and serve as an example to other healthy adults.

      Mac45 in reply to Barry. | October 4, 2020 at 12:50 pm

What you just did here, Barry, is to sin the facts in a manner positive for Trump. You did this by presenting only those facts which show Trump in a positive light. You left out the negatives; lack of mask wearing, moderate to large gatherings with little social distancing, and other incidents of close contact.

Spinning a report of an incident is not an automatic negative. It simply means that the facts of the incident are presented in such a way as to enhance a viewpoint or bias.

Maybe next Sunday if everything is still going well I will relax but until then it will be prayers and fingers crossed
