Less than a week after the signing of the Israel-Arab peace accords, the Arab Gulf country of Bahrain has reported a foiled Iranian terrorist plot against diplomats and foreign nationals on its soil.
Several suspects have been rounded up for planning a terrorist attack backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) — Iranian regime’s military and foreign terrorist arm, Reuters reported citing Bahrain’s Interior Ministry.
The news of the foiled terrorist attack comes amid a series of Iranian threats against Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for endorsing President Donald Trump-brokered peace agreements with Israel. Bahrain, along with the UAE, signed the Abraham Accords at the White House on September 15, establishing diplomatic and commercial relations with the State of Israel.
The “ruler of Bahrain should await the harsh revenge of the Mujahideen [jihad fighters] aiming to liberate Quds [Jerusalem] and the proud Muslim nation of this country,” Iran’s IRGC, a U.S. designated terrorist group, said in a statement just days ahead of the White House signing ceremony.
Besides foreign diplomats and civilians, the Iranian terrorists might also have had Bahrain-based U.S. servicemen in their crosshairs, news reports suggest. Bahrain is home to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet.

Several militants have been arrested and homes raided in Bahrain as security forces foiled what local media claimed was an Iranian-backed terrorist plot.The reports did not say when the attack was meant to have taken place, but said a case was being prepared against 18 accused, of which nine are now in Iran.The Bahrain government and state TV have yet to confirm the arrests, but Saudi TV showed footage of what appeared to be police raiding a property with a hidden passage as well as images of assault rifles and explosives apparently seized in the raid.A Saudi state TV reporter said the attacks were to be revenge strikes for the US killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani this January in a drone strike in Baghdad.Iranian state media also acknowledged the reports of the Bahraini arrests, but no official commented on them.
Since President Trump announced the peace agreements between Israel and the UAE last month, Iran and Palestinian terrorist groups have been carrying out a campaign of terror, threats, and intimidation. After Palestinian protesters rioted in the streets, burning the posters of Arab leaders, President Trump, and Primer Minister Netanyahu, Gaza-based terrorist groups fired rockets at Israeli civilians.
Palestinian leaders accused the Arab countries of helping President Trump in his re-election bid by backing the peace accords.
Taking the “path of normalization” with Israel made these two Arab Gulf countries “complicit” with President Trump’s “Deal of the Century which is an aggression on our people,” Islamic terrorist group Hamas claimed.
While many Arab countries, including Egypt and Oman, welcomed the accords, Iran and Turkey joined Palestinian leaders in denouncing the move towards regional peace. Iran has been more open in its threats. They threatened terrorist attacks on the Arab States intending to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.
Last month, Iranian state media declared the UAE a “legitimate and easy target” for endorsing the Trump-sponsored peace agreement. Pointing to the UAE and Bahrain, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani warned that they would bear the “consequences” of this move.
“How could you reach out your hands to Israel?” he lamented. “All the severe consequences that would arise from this are on you.”
