Dems fear Biden would blow it all by debating Trump

Dems fear Biden would blow it all by debating Trump

Joe Lockhart: “Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump.”

A spokesperson for the Joe Biden campaign insisted today that Biden “looks forward” to participating in debates with Trump.

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden is “very much looking forward to debating Donald Trump,” the former vice president’s campaign deputy manager and communications director Kate Bedingfield told “America’s Newsroom” on Monday.

She added that the Biden campaign has already agreed to the upcoming three presidential debates, while the Trump campaign has not.

The Biden campaign is forced to answer such questions because a growing chorus of Democrat voices who are worried that Biden might blow his current polling lead in a debate. Here’s former Clinton White House spokesman Joe Lockart, writing at CNN on July 28, Joe Biden could still lose this election:

… it’s not irrational to conclude that Trump can’t win this election. In fact, I believe he can’t. The public does not trust him to handle the problems the country faces, and they are rejecting across the board his vision of America. Nixon won the culture war in 1972. Trump’s vision of the US, rooted in 1970’s America, is doomed to failure in my opinion.
But the election is not really over for one reason — Biden can lose this election. He’s run a very effective campaign to date, but now we’re getting to crunch time as many Americans are just starting to focus on the race. To avoid a Biden loss, I believe he must do the following over the next 99 days.

* * *

5. Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump. Trump has now made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post. It’s a fool’s errand to enter the ring with someone who can’t follow the rules or the truth. Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates. But it’s worth the risk as trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.

Lockhart reiterated his position in an interview:

Lockhart is not alone among Democrat and ant-Trump political types in warning Biden not to debate Trump:

Several opinion columns published in recent months have called for an outright cancellation of the debates, describing them — alongside the party conventions — as outdated political rituals designed purely for TV ratings.

Longtime Democratic strategist and former Hillary Clinton senior adviser Zac Petkanas agreed with calls for Biden to back out of any and all debates with Trump in the coming months. As it stands currently, there are three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate scheduled between September 29 and October 22.

“Biden shouldn’t feel obligated to throw Trump a lifeline by granting him any debates at all. This is not a normal presidential election and Trump is not a legitimate candidate,” Petkanas tweeted last week, expressing his “opinion that no one asked for.” ….

Political commentator Bill Kristol, a so-called “Never Trump” conservative, praised Notre Dame for withdrawing as host of the first presidential debate over coronavirus concerns.

“Good. No need to go to any trouble to replace this debate. Indeed, I gather Biden’s already all booked up with zoom calls in those weeks. Also, the Jewish holidays. And the new Perry Mason series. Too bad!” Kristol quipped on Twitter.

I don’t believe in coincidences in politics. So it’s no coincidence, in my view, that the NY Times just ran an Op-Ed by consummate D.C. class journalist Elizabeth Drew calling for getting rid of debates all together:

Nervous managers of the scheduled 2020 presidential debates are shuffling the logistics and locations to deal with the threat of the coronavirus. But here’s a better idea: Scrap them altogether. And not for health reasons.

The debates have never made sense as a test for presidential leadership. In fact, one could argue that they reward precisely the opposite of what we want in a president. When we were serious about the presidency, we wanted intelligence, thoughtfulness, knowledge, empathy and, to be sure, likability. It should also go without saying, dignity….

So for Drew, it’s all about neutral principle? Well, there’s this guy Trump who makes it too risky this time around:

Moreover, we didn’t need the debates to tell us that Trump had chosen to be the P.T. Barnum of American politics. For him, it was (and still is) all about the show, about distracting the public from reality….

The debates took us nowhere nearer the realities about arguably the most disastrous president in our history. They became simply another tool in his arsenal.

Drew provides “dignified” political and media cover for the Biden campaign to find an excuse come the fall not to debate.

I think that will be a hard sell for Biden. He will suffer damage from not debating, but a lot less damage than tens of millions of people, who finally are tuning into politics, witnessing something like this:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created by the you know, you know the thing.”

It would seem if there are no debates, Trump would simply need to run a montage of Biden’s gaffs

Joe Biden firmly announced earlier today, “There will be no debates or my name’s not Whatchamacallit.”

Democrats are the party of perception and deception. They’re the ones who harp on “the optics.”

Seriously, they’re willing to go with an empty podium optic?

“Dems Fear Biden Would Blow It All By Debating Trump”

“If Biden debates the voters will see the Big Board”

If he can’t stand on a stage with Trump, how is he going to fare on the world stage.

    Short answer: he won’t.

Biden is the Trojan Horse candidate for whomever the Party picks to be the eventual President, so it doesn’t matter that he is mentally unable to parlay with world leaders.

The only questions are (1) how will the leaders of the Communist Party depose Joe in favor of someone else, and (2) when will it happen.

I wonder what will happen when the dumbs realize they’ve been played and that Biden (and all the other candidates) really never was the choice. So much for being a ‘democracy’.

Will Bernie, the second place finisher in the DNC beauty contest sit idly by while the Democrats choose Joe’s replacement in a back room of a hotel in Milwaukee? And whose vote counts the most? Obama’s, natch.

The next three months are going to be very, very interesting.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to Recovering Lutheran. | August 4, 2020 at 6:48 pm

In short, if Biden the Trojan Horse tries debates he will pop under pressure.

I don’t see how Biden will be the nominee much less show up for a debate. At this point he is the Manchurian candidate for the progressive left, but his cognitive decline is getting harder to mask

What a wonderful candidate!

I can’t speak to the polls. I can speak to what I know. I know that what I don’t know is possibly staged, faked or rigged as has been true of the media for a long time now and has only gotten worse.

Do you know a single 2016 Trump voter who has changed their mind?

Me neither.

I know several life long Dems who are NOT voting for Biden.

I deliberately live in a bubble and I know it.

The pollsters and media elites also deliberately live in a bubble, but don’t know it.

Something people should remember about polls.

Most polls are run by the Joseph Goebbels media, which pushed the Russian hoax, the myth that “white supremacists” are really the ones behind the violence committed by Communist brownshirts, and a host of other fake news stories. It is literally a new disinformation campaign every single day. So the idea that months before the election they are conducting honest polls is flatly not believable.

The second is the growing threat of Cancel Culture and violence. The Joseph Goebbels media has not been shy about threatening the Deplorables with losing their jobs and even their lives. Every Trump voter I know is literally in fear for their job and their safety. Not a single one would give their opinion to someone they don’t know over the phone.

And with the NSA assembling all the deep data files on everyone of us from our social media posts, internet browsing, purchase habits, etc., they can unleash a living hell for anyone, even if you are clean as the driven snow.

      Hi Lutheran.
I’ve been considering telling a phone pollster that I fear being doxed and harassed if I give her the wrong answer. Unfortunately that is not one of the choices on their checklist so it would make no impact.

May you be granted a full recovery. >;-) (That’s supposed to be a wicked wink.)

Can’t the Party just order the Propaganda lackies at NBC, CBS, NBC and CNN to put the debate on a 10 minute delay so it can be edited. They can also cut away every time Trump answers to April Ryan.

The Democrats were counting on the Mueller Train to chug them to victory. Too bad it was derailed.

Dan Bongino talked about this very subject today. I don’t mean to add a podcast reference but it’s very relevant. His source said he’s aware of people that are around Biden “socks on to socks off” time and he’s not all there much of the time. All in all it’s a very quick decline. I don’t have any inside info but I’m sure Dan does.

    TheOldZombie in reply to My2centshere. | August 4, 2020 at 1:19 am

This decline is probably why we started seeing so many “we don’t need to debate Trump because he just lies about everything” news articles.

Disco Stu_ in reply to My2centshere. | August 4, 2020 at 11:20 am

Dan B. is a former Secret Service agent. Who likely still knows people who know things we’re not supposed to know.

It really boggles the mind to realize that the Dims are willing to run a guy who is so obviously mentally debilitated.

They cried “25th Amendment!” about Trump, yet they’ll run this clown?

They cried “Impeach!” at Trump, yet this clown Biden is ON VIDEO openly bragging about doing exactly what they accused Trump of doing (with no proof).

They cried “Collusion!” at Trump, when their last nominee paid the Russians (indirectly, but still she paid them) to gin up the dirty report.

“Trump won’t concede!” they cry, after nearly four years of one effort after the next, trying to overturn and/or nullify the results of the election they lost.

And on, and on, and on. The Dims constantly project upon their opponents the nefarious deeds of which they are guilty. All in their naked lust for power.

To put it simply, the Dims make me want to puke.

DaveGinOly in reply to Paul. | August 3, 2020 at 8:59 pm

They know to “25th” Biden would only mean putting a real progressive in the Oval Office, in the person of his pick for veep. To the Dems, that’s a feature, not a bug.

gospace in reply to DaveGinOly. | August 3, 2020 at 9:14 pm

I don’t think the Republicans should go along with 25th amendment removal of Biden in the first months of his presidency- should he win. Make the Democrats live with their choice. The military isn’t going to wither away with a few months of babbling Biden. Let the people see what the Democrats and media foisted on them.

TheOldZombie in reply to gospace. | August 4, 2020 at 1:15 am

The way the 25th Amendment is written the Republicans couldn’t stop the Democrats from replacing Biden unless Biden himself transmitted to Congress that he was able to do the job. His VP and cabinet would then transmit a second time that Biden was unable to discharge his duties as POTUS and than Congress would vote on the issue.

At that point it would require a 2/3rds vote from both houses to decide the matter and Republicans could throw a monkey-wrench into the issue and prevent Democrats from replacing Biden.

So if the Democrats use the 25th Amendment and Biden goes along with it the 25th Amendment use that will prevent the Republicans from having any say in the matter.

Cleetus in reply to Paul. | August 4, 2020 at 5:50 am

This entire Biden affair causes me to wonder about the long term future of the Democratic Party. First there was the manipulation of Bernie in 2016 to allow Hillary the nomination. Then in this current election cycle Bernie was leading when all of a sudden Biden emerged out of the polling basement.
Now if it becomes apparent that they are continuing to run Biden even though he is incapable of be President, then the Democrats show themselves again to be a party of manipulators who do not care about what the people say via their vote and does only what they themselves want.
Now add to this toxic stew the socialism nonsense that has taken over the party along with idiot ideas such as defund the police, blacks are now more equal than white as racism rears its ugly head again with the Democrats blessing, their blatant support for rioting and violence, support for reparations, the New Green Deal, etc., and what do you have? It has become so obvious that even blacks are fleeing the party in droves and soon all that will be left are the hard core communists.
The Democrats have been pushing these ideas for years in universities and elsewhere and now their plan is coming to fruition. It is an ugly monster that they created by never thinking things through and it is a monster that will consume them – if they do not destroy the country first.

Subotai Bahadur | August 3, 2020 at 7:27 pm

No matter who is declared the winner in November, and no matter the perceived honesty or dishonesty of the vote and count; Things are going to get kinetic. First, the Democrat street thugs will be even more violent regardless of declared winner. If the Democrats win [note I am not saying Biden winning, because he is a place holder] they will be preparing to impose a Leftist dictatorship. If President Trump wins, they will be working to overthrow him.

All campaigns wargame secnarios. And normally they keep the games secret. The Democrats have admitted that in one wargame they are planning for the contingency of forceful removal of President Trump who supposedly will try to hold the office. And the Democrat MSM, are applauding the concept.

Interesting times are coming.

Watch the media Talking Points do a course change this week

The socialist dims are screwed. The only thing Biden is “looking forward to” is a nap. #1 Polls indicate that black support for President Trump is anywhere from 30% to 40%. If that is true, game over. #2 About 5 million people have bought guns for the first time. But the dims propose that “gun control” is a winner. Which brings us to #3 80% of the country is “concerned” about the rocketing crime rate. EIGHTY PER CENT. But the dims are promoting “abolish the police, send in the social workers” and encouraging the riots. And they are also so insane they think this is a winning strategy.

I sure wish some lawyer looking to make a name for themself would sue the democrat party for elder abuse.

“C’mon, man!”

I’m absolutely certain who’s going to comment on this, because I’m going to quote the Constitution again, and I’m constantly told it doesn’t actually say what it says.

It’s obvious that Joe B is in serious mental decline. So let’s game out a few scenarios.

but first: The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;—The person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President

Assume Biden ekes out a very narrow electoral victory on election night.

1. Biden dies after the election, but before the electoral college meets. And ekes out a very narrow electoral victory on election night. The Democrats have to decide on a replacement- BUT the delegates are already selected. None are bound to anyone picked. They’re Biden loyalists, not anyone else’s. So when the votes are counted in the senate- no one has a majority. So the house selects from the top 3. As of today 26 state delegations are controlled by Republicans. Assume that holds. Trump could be reelected- with a Democrat VP.

2. Biden is still alive on electoral college day- but is in the hospital, obviously dying and has been there for a few days. The SC just ruled- the states can punish faithless electors. The Democrat Party tells the delegates to vote for- someone else. Can a state after the fact say- “Go ahead, be a faithless elector despite out laws?” And will the electors go along with a short notice replacement? All kinds of unanswered and unanswerable questions. Pretty much- the election ends up in the House.

Assume- Biden gets a blow out electoral college victory. Seems to almost there when the electoral college meets, and ALL electors vote for their pledged candidate. Big, big mistake on the part of the Democrats if they don’t tell a few electors- vote for someone else. Why? Biden drops dead before the votes are actually counted. He’s not eligible to become President- he’s DEAD. The elected VP can’t replace him- no one has been elected to the presidency to replace. The House gets to choose between the top 3 electoral vote getters- but there were only 2, and one of them is Trump. Like it or not- he’s the only one anyone in the House can constitutionally vote for. If 26 states delegations still have a Republican majority- Trump retains the presidency. If not- as is likely in a blowout- there’s a problem. No one else can Constitutionally be elected to the Presidency by the House. If they choose someone else- the SC would be remiss in not finding the election unlawful within hours. The VP candidate would become acting President on March 4, but cannot legally appoint a VP- because they’re not actually the President.

And- can the house conduct any other business before it elects a President? Biden dropping dead before the votes are counted in the Senate if all electors vote for their pledged candidate if a majority of state delegations end up being Democrat is the one real Constitutional crisis the nation will have faced since 1860.

Just some random thoughts. All this can be avoided if the Democrat Party leadership tells Biden- you’re not going to be the candidate. The choice then is- Bernie or someone else? Bernie ensures an electoral loss- he’s got more baggage than Trump. Anyone else ensures the Bernie bros stay home.

The Democrats have two weeks to decide whether to actually run aa obviously senile old man- and tell the people “It’s OK, we’ve got it covered!” There’s still lots of people thinking they’re going to pull the plug.

There is no Ammo anywhere – went to Cabela’s on Sunday – no .45 – 9MM – .223 – .38 Spl or 357 Mag. Wiped out of Shotgun shells – no #4 or 00 Buck.

Same at Rural King and local Gun stores.

Suppliers cannot provide a delivery date to the store owners. If you see any Ammo you can use, buy it!

The party that hates Trump more than they have ever hated anyone before, along with their handmaidens, the neverTrumpers, have halfwit Biden as a candidate. And the halfwit is what he was in his prime, now he’s a tenth wit or so.

That’s the best they can do, along with having Pelosi that cannot construct a simple sentence, and Nadler that waddles like a penguin and can barely get in a car on his own, and a bug eyed liar named Shiff. That’s the modern day democrats.

And yet, Biden will get at least 40% of the vote, probably 45%. 45% of your neighbors are nuts.

I can’t see how they can possibly switch at this late date, they keep swearing Crazy old Joe is fit and ready to take over so switching will take some explaining to do.
Oh their good at that, but doubt that good.

It’s only a matter of time until they say Biden will debate only after Trump releases his taxes

Look at Lockhart’s claim in his essay, that Trump’s alleged vision is “rooted in 1970’s America.” What does that even mean? I get that he implies that Trump’s is an allegedly “backwards” vision, but, the 1970’s produced Apple Computer, Oracle Corp., “Star Wars,” and, a host of new technologies that led to the personal computer revolution, and, eventually, the Internet. The Dhimmi-crats are so utterly stupid.

“Dems Fear Biden Would Blow It All By Debating Trump”

That happens when one is braindead.

If Joe Biden can’t handle Donald Trump, what will he do with Presidents Xi Jinping or Vladimir Putin ?

Trump has now made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post.

It is very, very difficult to make any statement that cannot be contested, second-guessed, or mis-heard. It’s easy, therefore, to just count President Trump’s statements and call them false and/or misleading. That’s how to come up with 20,000 “lies” (which, by the way, was the count back in February – has Trump been faultlessly truthful for these past six months?)

Applying the WaPo standard to their own publication, I suspect the number of statements they’ve made in their editorials – statements that could be termed false and misleading – would total well in excess of that paltry 20,000 the accuse of Trump.

Disco Stu_ in reply to ss396. | August 4, 2020 at 11:25 am

What? “… more than 20,000 misleading or false statements”?

Why not just simply say 2 billion of them? Just as credible.

Don’t know if “very stable genius” is counted as 1, 2, or 3 lies.

I’m certain if Trump had announced he would not debate Biden that the media would reply with “Good, because Trump would just lie anyway” rather than “Trump is scared! Debates are essential to a healthy democracy! Every president since Kennedy has debated and now Trump wants to destroy six decades of electoral tradition BECAUSE HE IS AFRAID!!”.

The MSM is the most shamelessly dishonest entity in existence today.
