Dr. Fauci Confirms Early in Pandemic, America Was Lied to About Face Masks

One of the frustrating things about the Coronavirus Pandemic has been conflicting information. In the case of face masks, many people have noted that you’re now required to wear face masks to enter places like stores, but months ago we were told not to bother with masks.

Now we know why.

During a recent interview with The Street, Dr. Fauci explained what happened.

Mairead McArdle writes at National Review:

Fauci Confirms Public-Health Experts Downplayed Efficacy of Masks to Ensure They Would Be Available to Health-care Workers

Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force, confirmed that public-health experts discouraged the public from wearing face masks towards the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak because they were concerned there would not be enough available for health-care workers.

During the early weeks of the pandemic, public-health experts “were concerned the public health community, and many people were saying this, were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply,” Fauci said in an interview with TheStreet.

“We wanted to make sure that the people, namely the health care workers, who were brave enough to put themselves in a harm way, to take care of people who you know were infected with the coronavirus and the danger of them getting infected,” Fauci continued.

See the clip below:

Mia Jankowicz of Business Insider provides this flashback to the early stages of the pandemic:

In January through March, as the spread of the disease became more and more serious, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention actively discouraged the use of masks among the general public.

By early April, simple cloth face coverings were recommended for the general public, instead of protective personal equipment such as surgical and N95 masks, The New York Times reported.

Fauci’s comments echo those of Surgeon General Jerome Adams on March 2, when he said that the increased demand for masks was putting medical professionals at risk.

A few days earlier, he tweeted that masks were “not effective in preventing” COVID-19 in the general public, saying, “Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!” He later reversed his advice.

The authorities saw what happened with toilet paper and feared the public could do the same thing with face masks.

In early April, here in Massachusetts, you couldn’t find a mask anywhere. Now, my local CVS has a bin full of them at the front of the store, right near checkout.

Add this to the politicization of the virus and the damage is done. People will be much more skeptical of the expert class going forward.

If it looks like a duck and ________ like a duck …. This guy is far more of a deep state bureaucrat than a doctor.

He is Director of NIH/NIAID. You don’t get to a position like that without being a politician first- that’s how it works.

    I downvoted you by accident.

Fauci is the ultimate useful idiot: he’s an hysteric looking for attention for the past 37 years by crying wolf: this man has NEVER been right.

As of late, the fawning weasel continually trying to gain favor with hillary clinton (fauci was on the margains: he had to pass along his feelings of fealty to scummy clinton in hopes of gaining access deeper into the swammp onion.

Even as he was given the center stage, his dutifully saluted XiNN idiots on his way up. Literally.

No wonder he was promoted by the swamp to be prepositioned in the event of a flu outbreak.

PDJT should learn one thing: ONLY position people around you who are WARRIORS – PROVEN warriors.

Sure, there are the rats like mattis who will sneak in periodically, but fauci??

As the flu winds down, I hear Fauci the Clown will be wearing a pajama suit with large buttons and carrying juggling pins to show off his carnival skills.

A really lousy clownish doctor has to have a backup career, don’t you think?

If you really want to contemplate the duplicitously dictatorial character of this man, read this:

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/06/18/anthony-fauci-americans-dont-believe-science-and-they-dont-believe-authority/

<i<“One of the problems we face in the United States is that unfortunately, there is a combination of an anti-science bias that people are — for reasons that sometimes are, you know, inconceivable and not understandable — they just don’t believe science and they don’t believe authority,

    “science is truth,”

Where do I start? This power-started needs to be slapped down very hard. For one thing, more and more Americans have become awakened to the difference between science vs scientism and what Fauci practices is scientism. The world suffered a very painful lesson with the Nazi experiment with “science”-based government. The “truth” we discovered was how utterly wrong and EVIL science can be left to its own devices.

Correction. What I posted was “this power-hungry liar” but that is not what appeared.

The irony of a “scientist” who just admitted being a liar (but he had a “good” reason…) criticizing Americans for having a problem with authority. Please, someone smack this guy.

What else are they lying to us about? Hmm?

The proper follow up question is “How many other things have you and Birx lied about and are lying about now, and why should we believe ANYTHING else you say”?

So, Fauci admits that he, and the medical leadership of this country, lied to the populace about the efficacy of face masks and offers a reason for the lies. Now, the question is, why should we believe him now?

This is just one more example that government leadership and the medical profession will gladly throw the rest of us under the bus to protect themselves. We need the masks too protect ourselves from the bubonic plague [aka COVID-19], but the rest of you are safe to patronize grocery stores without them. Oh, and your elderly loved ones are perfectly safe in crowded nursing homes. I’m moving my mother to the Hilton, though.

    Paul in reply to Mac45. | June 18, 2020 at 2:28 pm

And oh yeah, tell your Mom to scootch over because we’re sending some Covid patients in to convalesce with her. And don’t forget to take the subway to go visit her, because global warming.

“We know what’s best for you”…”just let us take control of all the difficulties in your lives”

JusticeDelivered | June 18, 2020 at 1:54 pm

I new enough about this to buy a case of 600 masks before the crap hit the fan. A box of 50 was about $9 delivered when buying 600. I bought a surgical mask rated to filter at 98% down to 0.1 micron. Dry coronavirus is a bit over 0.1 micron. when the virus is transferred by sneezing or cough, it is 0.5 and up.

Typical over the counter N95 masks only capture 0.3 and up at 95%.

Beards defeat the purpose of the mask. I have seen both employees and customers with masks over beards.

healthguyfsu in reply to JusticeDelivered. | June 18, 2020 at 2:53 pm

That N95 has to be properly fitted or it is also useless.

JusticeDelivered in reply to healthguyfsu. | June 18, 2020 at 4:06 pm

Surgical masks also need to be properly fitted. It needs to be tight to the face all the way around. When inhaling there should not be any cool spots around the edges, which indicates air is bypassing the filter. After each use I mist the mask with 91% alcohol, and after several uses I wash the mask gently with dish soap, and air dry them.

Dry CRR Wuhan virus will pass through many masks, including N95.

Also, keep in mind that masks help prevent hand to mouth, nose or eye transfer of the virus.

They have lied about something far more serious: We have a very workable way to deal with the next spike in cases, which, if it does not happen next month, will likely start in November, or so.

There is a large body of evidence that shows that SARS-COV-2 virus is best controlled through identification of the infected, and treatment with a 5-day course of treatment using hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and an antibiotic. This is cheap and demonstrably effective.

Nevertheless, in the United States, hydroxychloroquine was restricted for use in-hospital only, in some places. This should not be allowed to happen, again.

The latest thing is that the FDA allegedly held an awful press conference advising against use of hydroxychloroquine at all, presumably based on two scientific papers that were withdrawn shortly before the press conference. I’ve yet to see the actual press conference: I’ve only read the account transmitted in the newspaper.

We cannot allow these morons to kill our loved ones via medical malpractice.

have survived too much to succumb to some damned chinese virus–eventually bought a wiley e. coyote mask, complete with the big snoot and big ears–wore(and wear)it if a mask happens to be required–some reactions to it have been spectacular

as a county sheriff said to me outside of a wallymart: ” well, it IS a mask ” and laughed

Perhaps the COVID-19 crisis should lead us to starting speaking of natural philosophy again, and avoid the term “science”. “Science” is Latin for “knowledge”; yet this crisis, with the experts changing their tune by the hour, underscores Michael Polanyi’s point that “science” is tentative–an admission that it is not really worthy of its name.

gibbie in reply to Kepha H. | June 18, 2020 at 9:03 pm

Wow! Somebody is aware of Michael Polanyi! His point that “all facts are value-laden” currently looks like an understatement.

MoeHowardwasright | June 18, 2020 at 2:36 pm

So he lied about the masks. Is anyone really that surprised? If he had been honest, yes there would have been an initial run on masks. Entrepreneurs filled the gap with cloth masks very quickly. Heaven forbid we trust the capitalist system to solve the problem. /s

Context awareness. Symptomatic and asymptomatic transmission paths are significant. The kind and fit of mask matters. Furthermore, masks saturate and have a progressive effectiveness. And, don’t forget the goggles. The eyes are a window to [viral] contagion.

I’m not sure I believe Fauci. He just wants the lockdowns to continue and is manufacturing evidence to promote it.

He’s still lying.

The first time I saw him in a presser, I told my wife that guy’s a weasel. Until the other day, she kept asking why. Now she agrees

In a free country, the government should never ever be allowed to manage the public with lies.

Not that there will be any consequences. The arrogance of the elites is its own reward.

Nothin’ to see here folks. Move along.

Let me put this as succinctly as I can…Take your mask and shove it up your ass!

Eventually everyone will see that Dr. Fauci lied to America… period.

The guy is a flake. One day, masks are needed, the next they don’t do anything, one day the disease lives on surfaces for days, the next the disease dies rather quickly on surfaces.

He must be part of the Biden mental exercise program.

He should be sued for the damages he did to this country. Though, he is a leftist, so this was yet another targeted attack against Trump through destruction of the economy. His economic future should be bleak.

This guy is a clown of – literally – historical proportions.

He was put in place to do the damage that he’s helped do.

I sense Trump finally realizes the “lilipad” he’s sitting in the middle of the swamp he is in and he is resigned to it. That’s not to say he won’t stop pushing, but man, he’s only human.

Tonight I was a group meeting (non political) in which a person started giving a lecture on leftist bullshit. MAN, I shut that down FAST. It caused WW3, but I made my point and I could see the faces on people who were passivevly buying the b.s. suddenly get confused.

THAT, my friends, is pushback. DO IT.

The amazing thing is he is a habitual liar and confirms that he is one!
No so bright after all!

“As soon as men decide that all means are permitted to fight an evil, then their good becomes indistinguishable from the evil that they set out to destroy. ” ― Christopher Dawson

Or as my father used to put it, “If you’ll do the wrong thing for a good reason, you’ll do it for a bad one.”

I remember years ago my son telling me never trust the government. I used to laugh and think he was being dramatic. Now with everything happening since Trump has been our President trying to drain the swamp, he’s been right all this time. At least eyes are being opened now to the corrupt media and those in government who don’t really work for our benefit.
God Bless President Trump!!

This epidemic marks the death by suicide of experts (I am one in my own field so I regret this) .
An expert should offer advice not manipulate, let alone lie. To do so is to completely undermine their status and position.

No kidding, Fauci lied. It was obvious at the outset of the pandemic that Fauci, Brix and others were lying about masks to be sure adequate supplies were available to health care professionals. Of course, we don’t know what other lies occurred such as US funding of the Wuhan Lab, Fauci’s ability to get compensated for vaccines developed while he was a government employee, his level of knowledge on pandemic mitigation, etc.

Knowing that he’s admitted lying weasel, maybe now we should be worried.

Dr Fauci says the US does not need further lockdowns to bring Covid-19 under control and reveals he is ‘optimistic’ the world will soon have a vaccine after ‘encouraging’ trials

It is amusing to me that this asshat still thinks he has credibility. Time’s up!

If he had any honor, he’d resign due to his lack of credibility making it impossible for him to be an effective leader.

I simply disregard everything he says now.
