Researchers Believe NYC is the ‘Primary Source’ of Wuhan Coronavirus Infections Across U.S.

One doctor estimated “infections spreading from New York account for 60 to 65 percent of the sequenced viruses across the country.”

Researchers discovered the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak occurred due to travelers from New York City, making it “the primary source of new infections across the country” by early March.

From The New York Times:

The research indicates that a wave of infections swept from New York City through much of the country before the city began setting social distancing limits to stop the growth. That helped to fuel outbreaks in Louisiana, Texas, Arizona and as far away as the West Coast.

The findings are drawn from geneticists’ tracking signature mutations of the virus, travel histories of infected people and models of the outbreak by infectious disease experts.

“We now have enough data to feel pretty confident that New York was the primary gateway for the rest of the country,” said Nathan Grubaugh, an epidemiologist at the Yale School of Public Health.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has a habit of deflecting blame to President Donald Trump over the outbreak. But it turns out “that decisions made by state and federal officials — including waiting to impose distancing measures and to limit international flights — helped shape the trajectory of the outbreak and allowed it to grow in the rest of the country.”

What did de Blasio tweet on March 2? Oh yeah!

Washington state saw a massive outbreak in the Seattle area, which caused outbreaks in other states. But the NYT described Seattle’s outbreak as the “squall before the larger storm gathering in New York.”

The viruses in New York came from Europe while the virus outbreak in Washington state came from China.

In early April, epidemiologists said that NYC’s “role as an international hub of commerce and tourism” along with the population density helped spread the virus. These scientists also said that any response likely would not have “stopped the pandemic.”

It could have helped, though:

Acting earlier would most likely have blunted the virus’s march across the country, researchers say.

“It means that we missed the boat early on, and the vast majority in this country is coming from domestic spread,” said Kristian Andersen, a professor in the department of immunology and microbiology at Scripps Research. “I keep hearing that it’s somebody else’s fault. That’s not true. It’s not somebody else’s fault, it’s our own fault.”

Geneticists “analyzed and shared more than 2,000 samples of the virus from infected people.” Just like other viruses, the coronavirus replicated as it infected new people, which leads to mutations:

These mutations typically do not change the behavior of the virus, but they can provide a signature of a virus’s origin.

Most samples taken in Texas, Ohio, Louisiana, Idaho, Wisconsin and many other states carry distinct mutations that can be traced back to viruses introduced into New York.

Over all, Dr. Grubaugh estimated, infections spreading from New York account for 60 to 65 percent of the sequenced viruses across the country.

Other scientists want to analyze more samples before accepting this conclusion.

Then again, we have heard reports that the coronavirus may have appeared in California back in November.

Quarantine NYC!
Nothing in, NOBODY OUT!

I can almost guarantee you that this virus and others of its kind were already here before we detected them or any “watchdog” organization caught on to them.

A pathogen spreads fast and hits you before you know it when:
1. It has high transmisssbility
-and-
2. It has low mortality and a variety of immunogenicities in sub-populations

Both of these factors allow it to spread quickly before it is detected, and we have a free-flowing stream of international travelers throughout the world. This is one of the biological prices we must pay in order to have this kind of accessibility and freedom. The individual question for everyone is…is it worth it? If the answer is yes, go back to life as you know it. If the answer is no, move into a low density populace with a low draw for tourism and vote for anything against immigration…that’s your best bet at avoidance.

Don’t let anyone fool you otherwise into thinking we have microbiology under such control that we will even be able to stop something like this but worse in the near future.

Inconceivable! I had been assured by the Very Best And Smartest People In The Universe (TM) that Trump was personally responsible for the Wuflu pandemic (just like Reagan personally infected Teh Gayz with HIV/AIDS).

Documentaries have been done on things like this. Parts of the planet are under constant watch for things like this causing outbreaks

Yes, there are, but the initial cases are looked at in the lens of “sepsis”, “pneumonia”, or “flu” not as a sequence of DNA or RNA.

The watchdogs don’t go into emergency rooms and sequence every pathogen that causes these things. By the time anyone knew, It’s a near certainty that many asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic viral shedders were out of China before anyone knew about a novel SARS-like coronavirus.

Given how often the CDC guesses wrong and ships the wrong vaccine, it’s still a long way from “watching for” to “doing anything about.”

60% being infected while home sheltering obviously means drone distribution of the virus, #conspiracy.

So, maybe we should build a wall around NYC? (And don’t ever let the President fly over it, fer cryin’ out loud.)

Being from Up-Up State NY, I couldn’t agree more. We not only get all their garbage dumped up here, we now have to deal with the same constraints of social distancing, business closures for my immediate area of 94 sq.miles and 5,524 residents. Why should we who in our county have had 109 reportable cases with 14 deaths, qualifying 12 of those who died as a result of Cuomo’s order to mandate sending the diagnosed sick resident back into their nursing home which never was furnished with products and equipment and trained staff to deal with it. The only county that reveres NY City is Tompkins which is financed and subsidized by both the Federal and State governments.

Turn Manhattan into a federal prison. Patrol boats, helicopters, Lee Van Cleef. America is going to need a Devil’s Island for all of the traitors and fifth columnists we’re too soft to execute.

Another turd-feather in Cuomo’s dunce-cap — “Send the infected into the nursing homes” — that should be this obnoxious, loud-mouthed idiot’s 2024 campaign slogan.

nyx is guilty of a lot more “infections” than just the KungFluWhuhanChinaBatEater Virus.
senators hillary clinton and chuck schumer are among some of the more well known virulent stains (oops I meany strains..) of infections..

    grr meany nyc not nyx.
wish edit function enabled. cataracts (not yet operable and even if they were….can’t now) combined with gabapentin…life comes at yougoes by you in a blur LOL

Let’s get that damn dimensional portal up and running. New York seems to live in an alternate reality anyway. High time we made it official.

Well, now we know why DownState won’t let us secede (or folds on their occasional threats to secede themselves.) Can’t get rid of the wrong kind of people by infecting them, if there’s a state border in the way that could be enforced.

Taking their respirators didn’t play out. Killing the economy n stepping on progress aren’t working fast enough. Relentless out-migration driven by policies n the state apparat isn’t fast enough. The Hereditary Proconsul has to get er done somehow.

So really, when looked at in this way, the majority of the blame for this getting out of hand and ruining the economy is on Herr Cuomo and DeBlasio heads. It was their mismanagement, their decisions, their actions that has caused this damage to the country.

And yet the left had claimed Herr dictator Cuomo should replace Biden.

Yet another reason why Cuomo should not be governor.

The damn state of New York owes reparations to all the other states !!!!!!!
