While the nation has been focused on the Coronavirus crisis, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and his Democrat-controlled legislature, have been hard at work passing new laws.

Northam has signed numerous bills into law on everything from abortion to gun control. Virginia as we knew it is gone.

Susan Jones reports at CNS News:

Virginia Is Reborn As a Leftist Enclave, Following Governor’s Easter Weekend Bill-Signing

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam signed a slew of bills into law on Easter weekend, transitioning the Commonwealth into the liberal bastion that Democrats want it to be.

On Sunday, Northam signed legislation expanding early voting to 45 days before an election without a stated excuse; repealing the state’s voter ID law; and making Election Day a holiday.

To maintain the same number of state holidays, lawmakers repealed the Lee-Jackson Day holiday, established over 100 years ago to honor Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

“Voting is a fundamental right, and these new laws strengthen our democracy by making it easier to cast a ballot, not harder,” Northam said in a news release. “No matter who you are or where you live in Virginia, your voice deserves to be heard. I’m proud to sign these bills into law.”

Other bills addressed criminal justice:

The felony larceny threshold is now increased from $500 to $1,000.

Other bills permanently eliminate driver’s license suspensions for unpaid fines, fees, and court costs; raise the age of juvenile transfer to adult court from 14 to 16; and change certain parole conditions.

And social justice:

The new laws repeals “racist and discriminatory language from Virginia’s Acts of Assembly,” give localities the ability to remove or alter Confederate monuments in their communities, and begin the process of replacing Virginia’s statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in the United States Capitol.

“Racial discrimination is rooted in many of the choices we have made about who and what to honor, and in many of the laws that have historically governed this Commonwealth,” said Governor Northam.

Here are the details on gun control, via Northam’s website:

Governor Northam Signs Historic Gun Safety Legislation into Law

Governor Ralph Northam today announced he has signed several landmark gun violence prevention measures into law, including legislation to enact an Extreme Risk Protective Order, require background checks on all gun sales, mandate reporting of lost and stolen firearms, prevent children from accessing firearms, and reinstate Virginia’s successful one-handgun-a-month policy.

“We lose too many Virginians to gun violence, and it is past time we took bold, meaningful action to make our communities safer,” said Governor Northam. “I was proud to work with legislators and advocates on these measures, and I am proud to sign them into law. These commonsense laws will save lives.”

Tucker Carlson talked about this on his show last night. He now refers to Northam as Governor Klanrobes Blackface:

Now we know why the media didn’t drive Northam from office over his racial controversy. They knew that with full control of Virginia, Democrats would take full advantage, and boy did they.

But if election day is a holiday, why do you need early voting?

I don’t think Gov. Xi Dictator of VA has to worry about making it to November.

Lots of U.S. military there ready to arrest his un-godly traitor butt.

The one saving grace of him being VA governor is that he is by law a one term guv.

Virginia Stoll has a chance to wake up and take back their state

Navi Mustang, you’re right but the Demorats are hard at work to change that.

Yes, but he killed voter ID laws, inviting voter fraud so that Democrats can steal elections going forward. NoVa is where the swamp lives, and they do to the rest of the state what NYC does to the rest of New York. Northam is a despicable person who has made it harder for us to elect Republicans going forward. The VRP hasn’t been any help, either, leaving 25% or Democrats unopposed in the last statewide election. My once beautiful state is now a liberal mess.

The one saving grace of him being VA governor is that he is by law a one term guv.

Virginia still has a chance to wake up and take back their state

    To make voting fraud easier.

With early voti g, you can vote more often.

    healthguyfsu in reply to Obie1. | April 16, 2020 at 2:02 am

It seems the new object is to make voting easier.

I’ve decided that I identify as a voter in the swing state of Wisconsin. I should be allowed to do that by Dem lefty rules since I can identify as whatever I want.

However, as a middle class everyday guy that is oppressed by the 1%, I can’t afford to relocate to Wisconsin with no job prospects there. If this is about making voting easier, why not let me just mail-in a vote to Wisconsin where I identify?

I have a feeling my ballot would be counted if it was blue but “lost” if it was red.

    Photoman42 in reply to Obie1. | April 16, 2020 at 8:13 am

Obie1, because Demorats don’t want to miss any opportunity to rig an election.

This Wuhan Corona Virus confirms Trump’s agenda to redistribute D.C.’s massive bureaucracies (along with their rabid leftist voters) to other far-flung states in the union.

Punch back twice as hard. – you know who

Governor “Jim Crow” morphed into a Communist thug so fast nobody saw it.

Let me know when the shooting starts.

The next time a Democratic candidate for any office claims to be moderate, remember Virginia and vote accordingly.

Well, at least they didn’t legalize fourth trimester abortions. Yet.

I have family in Virginia and my wife and I talked about moving there someday.

I guess we’ll head farther south.

I’m certain all that will work out with no unintended consequences. (Sarcasm)

As I mentioned in the Michigan thread….

Irish Democracy time. They can’t afford to lock up millions. More regimes have been brought, piecemeal, to their knees by what was once called “Irish Democracy” — the silent, dogged resistance, withdrawal, and truculence of millions of ordinary people — than by revolutionary vanguards or rioting mobs.

Refuse to obey.

A few thoughts:

– When your state has an ever growing population of government workers isn’t this the end result?

– Wasn’t Virginia a lost cause when they voted in that snake Terry McAuliffe.

– I prefer Governor Infanticide, while the blackface thing is bad it was 35 years ago. His support for infanticide came just last year.

healthguyfsu in reply to Massinsanity. | April 16, 2020 at 2:05 am

No, blackface is better because it makes Dems live by their own rules and own their hypocrisy on all of these social justice mob moves.

I didn’t know hillbillies could also be hippies.

And the NRA celebrated a victory because the “assault weapon” ban wasn’t enacted.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only “gun control” bill introduced, and the others are just as bad, just in different ways.

But yay! No “assault weapon” ban!

henrybowman in reply to Archer. | April 16, 2020 at 6:38 pm

The NRA have devolved into lazy, egotistical self-promoters — the closest thing OFWG have to their own Al Sharpton. They don’t do any of the heavy lifting, and if the organizations who did win one, NRA steals all the glory. I’ve let my membership lapse, and moved my financial support from the (clothes) horses to the (worker) bees.

My prediction for Democrat office holders up for reelection in Red VA counties this fall:

P.A.I.N.

“These commonsense laws will save lives.”

Hs is now ON RECORD. “Good intentions” no longer suffice as an excuse.

If the murder rate rises — which it always does when gun control ramps up — HOLD HIM to this statement. Mercilessly. Repeatedly. Bring it up in every debate, every letter to the editor, every opposing candidate’s statement.

    Crucify him.
    And all his pomps.
    And all his works.

Now he has completed his attack on the Constitution and our Natural Rights. Now we start our counter-offensive. We have signed confessions from all the Democrat criminals. No need for trials. Local militias can commence with the executions.

healthguyfsu in reply to ray. | April 16, 2020 at 2:03 am

He hasn’t completed anything…he’s got more of this grab crap planned I’m sure.

The biggest problem here is the utter failure of the republican party in VA to fight for anything. The party leaders are, if not traitors, absolute incompetents. If you won’t fight for anything, you’ll lose everything; they won’t and they have.

As for moving the fed gov’t out of VA – that just introduces cancer cells into healthy tissue. You local school systems are already doing that; no need to help them speed up the process.

As a Virginia resident, I’ve been saying this for a long time. The Republicans have only had a tenuous hold on the legislature for a long time and as more and more imported liberals from DC and points north have moved here to escape the tyranny of their home governments, it hasn’t take long for that to be overturned.

Combine that with the abject incompetence of the Republican party in Virginia pretty much the entire 25 years I’ve lived here and it’s a recipe for disaster.

It’s just typical Republican strategy: pander to the people who are never, ever going to vote for you and ignore (or actively undermine) your base and expect them to vote for you anyway…and then wonder why you keep losing elections.

At any rate, as soon as the Dems had control of both the legislature and governor’s office, the writing was on the wall.

The are going to do everything in their power to ensure they never lose another election…hence the fraudulent vote enablement act (otherwise known as repealing voter ID). Just wait until they get a chance to gerrymander the voting districts. That’ll be fun.

Virginia’s toast. It’s been coming for a long time, but the cancer is terminal now. Give it a decade (maybe less) for the state to go completely in the toilet and it will be added to the long list of places liberals flee from to infest other states…only to merrily engage in turning their new home into a mirror of the hell-hole from which they fled – coming soon to a state near you.

It’s times like these that I’m glad I’m old and am not going to live long enough to see the total collapse of the America I grew up in.

Do not redistribute the federal bureaucracy to still decent states–butto places like Guam, American Samoa, etc. Or even better simply fire 10 percent a year.

henrybowman in reply to JAB. | April 16, 2020 at 6:51 pm

I kind of thought that, as a country, we were trying to work toward the goal of genociding FEWER native populations as time goes on. You should rethink this.

We’ve heard so often about the vigilance necessary to keep freedom. A lot of that hints at maintaining a balance against government through an armed populace. It should also get an increased emphasis for vigilance at the ballot box, too.

We know how few people are interested in even bothering to vote, much less being informed on the issues / candidates. This should be a wake-up call across the rest of Virginia, and the whole nation, that voting is not just a civil right…it is a civic duty. If the less urban areas of this and every State could match and exceed the voter turnout that the activist Left does, then we wouldn’t need all these movements to split States into multiple parts.

I agree with most of you and if the Republicans will get off their Asses and come and talk to people so that we the people can Vote for them due to the DEMOCRATS are have people out polling all the time for them that’s our problem in Virginia and it seems Republicans do not care about Rural Areas in Virginia and the DEMOCRATS for sure do not give a shit about Virginia at all!!!!!
