And andy cuomo is issuing an order for vote by mail for the June primary.
You can apparently go to Walmart in person with a bunch of others but you can’t vote in person because china flu or some such.

    irv in reply to 4fun. | April 20, 2020 at 10:59 pm

The purpose of mail in voting is to make it easier to throw away the votes you don’t want to count. Next election for NY governor, the Democrat wins with 99.98% of the vote!

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to irv. | April 21, 2020 at 12:16 am

      What a New York dictatorship!

Robert in reply to irv. | April 21, 2020 at 6:35 am

Also, many ballots will be forgotten or remain unsubmitted by legitimate voters. Ballot harvesters can collect them and fill in empty ballots or throw away ballots filled out for the wrong candidate.

Albigensian in reply to irv. | April 21, 2020 at 1:59 pm

Vote-by-mail fraud tends to be a problem more of too many ballots being counted than too few.

Think (for example) of a pile of ballot-containing envelopes sitting in unsecured mailboxes in an apartment complex, where anyone could grab and vote them.

Or, think of “helpful” governments or election officials who insist on sending mail-in ballots to all registered voters, including those who didn’t request them: literally millions of unsecured ballots are floating around everywhere, and who could possibly know what might be done with them?

    CKYoung in reply to 4fun. | April 21, 2020 at 1:05 am

I know democrats who STILL believe Russia stole the 2016 election, but can’t see for the life of them how a foreign government can meddle with mail in ballots… they are insane, they really are.

    Milhouse in reply to 4fun. | April 21, 2020 at 6:28 pm

What do you mean, you can’t vote in person? Nobody will be prevented from voting in person if they like, though if we’re still distancing and everyone tries the lines will be insane.

I am well aware of the risks inherent in absentee voting, but don’t act as if it were something new. Every place in the USA has had absentee voting for decades, if not longer. But in NY, unlike most states, you need a valid reason to apply for an absentee ballot. In the current circumstances many people are reluctant to vote in person for fear of Wuhan Disease, so it makes sense to add that as a valid reason.

I’m not thrilled with it, because it does increase the risk of fraud, but as one of the people who will be sitting behind a table and dealing with the endless line of voters I’m glad for anything that will cut it down to manageable levels.

As for that risk: If we actually have a presidential primary (and now that Biden is the only candidate there’s a good chance that it will be canceled), I wouldn’t expect any fraud there. What would be the point? Nor do I really care about fraud in a race between candidates who are all horrible anyway. Nor am I concerned about most local primaries, for the same reason — I don’t care which Democrat wins, they’re all bad.

But the reason I recently changed my registration to D is that among the several challengers to my local communist-sympathizing congresscritter is a DINO, who I hope will manage to take advantage of a split in the “progressive” vote. And yes, I’m concerned that both the incumbent and her challengers from the left will be using all the fraud they can.

Well Trump was always going to lose NY but this is bogus and ripe for cheating

Time for AG to step in

Highly unlikely probably

CorkyAgain in reply to gonzotx. | April 21, 2020 at 12:38 am

… as if there’s never been any cheating in NY during past elections!

Don’t forget to send your monthly check for that bridge you bought.

Milhouse in reply to gonzotx. | April 21, 2020 at 6:32 pm

What’s bogus about it? And what grounds could the AG possibly have for “stepping in”? Do you seriously think that fear of Wuhan Disease is not a reasonable excuse for wanting an absentee ballot? And considering that in most states you don’t even need a reason for absentee voting, why should the AG care that NY, which does require a reason, has now added this to its list of valid ones?

Waiting for some obama appointed district judge in East Saint Louis to issue a nationwide injunction.

CommoChief in reply to MTED. | April 20, 2020 at 10:45 pm

Of course some jackleg Federal Judge will and that order will be expeditiously overturned. President has statutory authority to do so in more normal circumstances. Given that the ‘everyone is gonna die’ crowd will be opposing the President it will make for interesting reading in the filings.

After all if not a big enough danger to support a temporary halt to immigration then it certainly can’t be a big enough deal to warrant all the tyrannical excesses imposed by some States. Certainly couldn’t be a big enough deal to warrant federal funds flowing to state governments, the same state governments who will likely file in opposition.

MAJack in reply to MTED. | April 21, 2020 at 8:37 am

Ignore the injunction once it arrives. Screw these people.

Good move Mr. President!

buckeyeminuteman | April 20, 2020 at 10:52 pm

About damn time. He could have suspended immigration in 2017 until we got our big, beautiful wall.

Other countries shutdown immigration weeks ago

That’s my President but I am happy to share him with all of you.

JusticeDelivered | April 20, 2020 at 11:24 pm

Think about how much money illegals are costing us in this. May I suggest deploying 50,000 human cannons along the border to send all those parasites home? If they ran 24 x 7 we could crean them out in a year or two.

The libs will go CRAZY. But … seems to me it’s just like the Dems throwing money for the Kennedy Center into the aid package.

If the Dems want to leverage COVID-19 for their pet projects, it’s only fair for DJT to use COVID-19 for his pet projects. Goosegander and all that sort of stuff.

They’ll howl at the moon, but Trump won’t care. He outfoxed them again.

    CorkyAgain in reply to tiger66. | April 21, 2020 at 12:50 am

He has a better argument than they do that his “pet project” is a relevant response to the COVID-19 problem.

    Stan25 in reply to tiger66. | April 21, 2020 at 10:54 am

The libs are noe in full body covering warpaint. Nadler and Schifft for brains are clamoring for another impeachment vote and hearings.

Freaking brilliant!

A giant game of chicken in the Covid Kabuki theatre.

Trump will totally own them by the end. Watch him open national parks back up in the next order.

I think he needs to suspend immigration for 60 years to give time to the 40 or 50 million immigrants that are here now time to assimilate. Also, get rid of ‘Birthright Citizenship’ retroactively. Mass immigration doesn’t do much for us except depresses middle-class wages and destroys our culture.

Close The Fed in reply to rdmdawg. | April 21, 2020 at 7:02 am

RDM, I generally agree with your thought, but 60 years is too short. Unlike most former waves of legal immigrants, the current crop mostly comes from next door in Mexico. The Mexican government tries hard to keep them close and has bragged about it.

We need to eliminate dual citizenship and we need 500 years of no immigration. Basically, we need to make them American in heart and mind, and not just on paper.

Under contemporary America, right now, the left invites them to despise America rather than become part of it – plus we have the 7th century barbarians….

Much different problem when part of our country hates us. We need centuries to clean this up and return to E Pluribus Unum.

gospace in reply to Close The Fed. | April 21, 2020 at 9:44 am

Well, we could annex Baja California and it’s beautiful beaches, and occupy the northern Mexican states and place them under a “protecorate” until the rule if law there is restored and the narco-terrorists wiped out. Then give them independence from the rest of Mexico.

Remember when the left thought letting huge caravans of unvetted illegal aliens walk up South and Central America America into the USA unchecked? Hemorraghic viruses have also originated in South America, so we should never listen to the left/democrats on border security ever again. Their ideas can be outright and literally deadly to US citizens.

Won’t bother the D’rats. Only legal immigration can be curtailed by E.O.

    BierceAmbrose in reply to tom_swift. | April 21, 2020 at 9:10 pm

If all legal immigration is suspended, anybody immigrating is doing so illegally.

Simplifies the processing and protocols immensely.

Trump should use his executive authority to open the files on Obama and let the world see what the socialists spent so much effort in concealing.

I’m NOT saying we shouldn’t get a better handle on our immigration problems but, before we toss the baby with the bath water, we need to answer some questions:

Who harvests our produce?
Who maintains our yards?
And other similar thoughts.

The bludgeon approach may do us more harm than good. Let’s sit back and think about this.
.

Barry in reply to DSHornet. | April 21, 2020 at 10:12 am

Oh jeez, what will we do without immigrants to maintain our yards?

Perhaps the 20 million out of work will pitch in to bring in the harvest while we wait on Deere to produce the machinery that eliminates cheap illegal labor.

CommoChief in reply to DSHornet. | April 21, 2020 at 10:57 am

    DSHornet,

Almost all crops and fruits can be harvested using mechanization, these exist but cheap labor availability defeats it. Those like, tomatoes which need a more delicate touch will likely have a robot device, like the ones McDonald’s is using to flip burgers.

There are some dirty jobs like processing plants that employ low wage immigrants. Raise wages and attract a legal workforce.

Yard work? I do my own, personally I find it relaxing. Otherwise why can’t the neighbor kid down the street do it?

Who harvests our produce?
Who maintains our yards?
And other similar thoughts.

How about a few million able bodied folks currently on welfare?

Milhouse in reply to RichieD.. | April 21, 2020 at 6:39 pm

I once worked on a dairy farm, and the manager told me that they have tried to get Americans to do the actual work, taking care of and milking the cows, and could not find anyone willing to do it, even at $18 an hour. Those few who did sign up for it quit on their first day.

LibraryGryffon | April 21, 2020 at 9:49 am

Given the media’s portrayal of the current state of the country, hospitals overloaded, everyone who isn’t locked in their house dropping like flies all over the entire nation, infinitely worse than any other country including China, I’d be amazed that anyone would want to come here.

And of course the MSM wont see the contradiction in their narratives.

CorkyAgain in reply to LibraryGryffon. | April 21, 2020 at 12:58 pm

Resolving that contradiction is really very simple: the Dems are offering more and more free stuff in order to offset those disincentives.
