Poll: Majority of Democrats Want to Replace Biden With Andrew Cuomo

After seeing New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on television dealing with the Coronavirus crisis in his state, some Democrats are having second thoughts about presumptive nominee Joe Biden.

A recent poll even found that a significant number of Democrats would like to drop Biden and run Cuomo.

Steven Nelson reports at the New York Post:

Democrats want to drop Joe Biden for Andrew Cuomo, poll findsA majority of Democrats want to nominate New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for president instead of Joe Biden, according to poll results shared exclusively with The Post. The national poll found 56 percent of Democrats prefer Cuomo, with 44 percent wanting to stick with presumptive nominee Biden — a 12-point margin well outside the 4.8 percent margin of error for the Democratic sample.Hispanic voters, young people, women and self-identified liberals are most likely to favor dumping the former vice president for Cuomo. The poll, conducted April 3-6, was commissioned by the conservative pro-market Club for Growth, which generally supports Republican candidates.

Making this switch would be a nightmare for the DNC, considering that we’re already past Super Tuesday. Still, if they really wanted to do it, you know they’d find a way.

William Davis of the Daily Caller has a quote that explains why this is happening:

Poll Finds Democrats Want To Ditch Joe Biden For Andrew CuomoMost Democrats want to nominate New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for president over presumptive nominee Joe Biden, a new poll finds…“With every major news event, Democrats realize more and more how bad of a candidate Joe Biden is, and Democrats now preferring Cuomo is just another example,” Club for Growth vice president of communications Joe Kildea told The Post.

This is horrible for Biden. Not because it could happen but because it shows there is a real lack of confidence in his candidacy among Democratic voters.

As for whether or not this could actually happen, Byron York of the Washington Examiner says no way:

The #PresidentCuomo fantasyHow nervous are some Democrats about Joe Biden’s chances against President Trump this November? Nervous enough to entertain the notion that another Democrat, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, might swoop in and save the day.Cuomo, who has been governor for nearly a decade and has one of the most famous names in Democratic politics, found new prominence when his state became the epicenter of the coronavirus crisis in the United States. In February and March, some New York officials urged the public to maintain regular activities even as the virus took hold in the state, leading to the worst outbreak in the country. Now, with New York in crisis, the governor holds daily briefings that some politicos see as an effective counterpoint to Trump’s White House updates. It did not take long for the hashtag #PresidentCuomo to appear on Twitter. And from there came the dream that perhaps Cuomo might somehow become the Democratic standard-bearer…At this point, does someone — Party elders? The chairman of the Democratic National Committee? — tell the 10,118,114 people who voted for Biden: “Never mind. Governor Cuomo will be your candidate now.” Or does someone tell the 7,665,794 who voted for Sanders: “Sorry, Biden won’t be the candidate, but neither will the second-place finisher.”

It’s astounding that Democrats began their primary with over 20 candidates and they’re still looking for someone they believe can deliver a victory in November.
