China’s desperate attempt to erase its connection to the Wuhan coronavirus is not going well

As comedian Bill Maher notes: “So when someone says, ‘What if people hear Chinese Virus and blame China?’ the answer is, ‘We should blame China.’ “

Legal Insurrection readers have been following the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus since January 10th, when I noted that a severe, new pneumonia was being reported from Wuhan, China.

Chinese public health officials are struggling to identify a mysterious strain of pneumonia that has infected dozens of people and put the rest of Asia on alert for outbreaks.

…Symptoms of the new disease include high fever, difficulty breathing, and lung lesions. Currently, there are 59 known cases of this pneumonia-like illness. And while Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) has been ruled out as a cause, public health officials are concerned about another potential pandemic.

We then followed up with the “Wuhan Virus Watch” series, in which the earliest versions included the number of recorded infections and deaths from China. These reports were based on news accounts and records provided by the Centers for Disease Control.

As the magnitude of this disaster has become increasingly clear, China has decided to distance itself from being identified with the virus. Its first attempt was to recast the virus as an American-made pathogen.

The rumors seemed to begin when Chinese respiratory specialist Zhong Nanshan stated at a February press conference that “though the COVID-19 was first discovered in China, it does not mean that it originated from China,” planting the seeds of doubt.

On Thursday (March 12), Zhao Lijian, the spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took to Twitter, a social platform banned in China, to ask, “When did patient zero begin in US? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals? It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation!”

When that laughable attempt went nowhere fast, Chinese officials more versed in Western sensibilities decided to play the race card. Sadly, this has been more successful among elite media and establishment types.

The British publication, “Nature,” wrote an editorial apologizing for linking China with the novel coronavirus.

In an article published on Tuesday, the publication said that the World Health Organisation’s announcement on February 11 that the official name for the pneumonia-like virus would be Covid-19 had been an implicit reminder to “those who had erroneously been associating the virus with Wuhan and with China in their news coverage – including Nature”.

“That we did so was an error on our part, for which we take responsibility and apologise,” it said.

“It’s clear that since the outbreak was first reported, people of Asian descent around the world have been subjected to racist attacks, with untold human costs – for example, on their health and livelihoods.”

However, many others refuse to participate in China’s attempt to rebrand the virus.

“Real Time” host Bill Maher slammed the “PC police” Friday night for overreacting to the “Chinese virus” labeling controversy.

…Maher mocked the complainers, listing several other illnesses that are named after their locations of origin — such as the West Nile virus, Spanish flu and MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome).

“You can’t yell at someone for breaking a rule you just made up,” he said, adding, “So why should China get a pass?”

Maher continued, making an essential point about where the blame for this pandemic should be placed.

“So when someone says, ‘What if people hear Chinese Virus and blame China?’ the answer is, ‘We should blame China.’ Not Chinese-Americans, but we can’t stop telling the truth because racists get the wrong idea. There’s always going to be idiots out there who want to indulge their prejudices, but this is an emergency! Don’t we have bigger tainted fish to fry?”

The latest manipulation of the facts is associating the New York City outbreak with Europe.

Researchers tracking the spread of the coronavirus have determined that the virus has been circulating in New York City for a couple of months, since before testing began. Genetic sequencing of virus samples indicates most of the early cases in New York originated in Europe — not Asia — the researchers from NYU’s Grossman School of Medicine found.

The research team studied samples of the virus taken from 91 New York City patients.

No, it did not “originate in Europe.” The virus started its journey to New York from China with a stopover in Europe. No amount of press will change this fact.

Finally, it is now being reported that U.S. intelligence was following the initial outbreak in Wuhan, China as early as November.

US spy agencies were tracking the rise of the novel coronavirus as early as November, weeks before that information was included in President Donald Trump’s daily intelligence briefing, a former US military official told CNN.

While the exact date of the first report remains unclear, sources told CNN that intelligence gathered in November and in the weeks following offered multiple early warnings about the potential severity of the pandemic now surging in the US.

Intelligence is often only elevated to the highest levels of the government once analysts and officials reach a certain threshold of confidence in their assessment. That day came on January 3, the first day the President’s daily briefing included information the US intelligence community had gathered about the contagion in China and the potential it had to spread, including to the US, according to a person briefed on the matter.

This virus by any other name will still be identified with China, and as the Chinese are clearly aware, it will also be associated with it China’s execrable handling of the initial outbreak.

Tucker knocks it out of the park on a similar note. Obviously China’s numbers are fake. But how is the rest of China not decimated?

https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2020/04/11/fncs-carlson-we-have-no-real-explanation-for-why-the-coronavirus-spread-throughout-the-west-but-not-throughout-china/

Well, I am pretty sure the DOD has been looking around China with their Satellites..
I did read the story that the Chinese were moving at night to collect the deceased…
Of course, it would be foolish to take any statement from China at face value.
Do you suppose they are concerned about staying in control?

Maybe they were Studying Wuhan Virus as a weapon, in part to subdue their own people, in part to damage the West? And then the Peter Principle got them.

Think it’s only safe and rational to conclude that this was a germ warfare attack. Also note how convenient this China virus was in quelling the mushrooming protests against the Communist Chinese government.

In politics at least there are no coincidences.

As many many people pointed out the timing of all of this is to to to convenient with the collapse of the Mueller report the collapse of the impeachment and the booming economy which has still devastated all dim hopes of getting elected all the way down the ballot.

China knew weeks prior to public disclosure that the Wuhan coronavirus that is known to be hosted by a particular bat not indigenous to Wuhan province and is being studied at the BSL-4 research lab was being transmitted human to human. Realizing the danger to CHINA, the Communists quarantined Wuhan Province from the rest of the provinces and business centers in China but allowed 10s of 1000s or more people from Wuhan to fly out of Wuhan so that they could infect the rest of the world. China protected itself and there is no excuse for propagating a highly contagious and lethal pathogen to leave their quarantined Wuhan province.

There was a study by a team of scientists claiming that they spoke with 60 different people in the Wuhan Wet Market who assured them that the variety of bat known to host the Wuhan coronavirus is not now nor ever been sold in the Wet Markets of Wuhan. Do we believe the 60 people who know that if they said anything different that they would be beaten to death, imprisoned, disappeared or all of the above…

I believe that there are fewer than 40 BSL-4 labs in the entire world and in my reading I seem to recall that the Wuhan BSL-4 lab has had containment problems in the past. Chinese researchers being picked up in an airport with SARS and H1N1 samples during this recent pandemic does not give me a great deal of confidence in the Chinese deadly bio-research community.

Actually, Zhengzhou (in Henan), Guangzhou (in Guangdong), and Shanghai all closed down. Enough of China shut down that pollution dropped drastically. Early maps showing the extent of infection showed most of China outside Tibet and Xinjiang infected (and those uninfected areas have low population densities).

I suspect that the Chinese government focused on Wuhan to create the impression that it had the virus contained.

Here is a Documentary detailing the origonation of the virus.
This is associated with the Epoch Times.
It’s an hour. I watched the tail end of it.
Pretty impressive.

I have a question for the panel
Last Nov 6 there was a Pandemic seminar at Johns Hopkins called Event 201 in which a plan for live exercise pandemic drill was put forth. There were hundreds of viral scientists researchers, hospital administrators, hospital supply logistics specialists.and government representatives.
Some believe the live exercise drill was for the seminars purpose. Some believe the drill.was implemented and is in process right now
    I am not.sure what I believe

My question, if the supply.shortages are real.and not a part of a drill scenario. ,why were those shortages not addressed.
    between Nov. and late February.
After all this was s pandemic.preparedness seminar
If the pandemic is real.and those shortages.were known then, does that borders on criminal negligence.???

If you read the scenario for the drill they proposed and the description of
the simulated virus they proposed for the drill you will find they were remarkable prescient in knowing it came from a bats
    and resembled sars

And the uncanny clairvoyant prediction that WHO.would originally would put out the incorrect info stating there was no human to.human transmission and later correct that

I’ d say that since thats a pretty big mistake( and why was it put out without testing.?)
. How did the seminar people know such an unusual and potentially harmful.mistake would be made?two months before it was made .hmmm???

Amazingly this drill scenario also included a ( miracle drug)

Hydroxichloquine ( not named) that would cure the disease but not stop the spread

These guys are in Kreskin territory with predictions.but it gets better

The simulated virus would have a very high rate 85 %. ( which is quite a remarkable rate even for a fake virus)
of asymptomatic carriers making containment and testing difficult.

But people those are just a coincidence

And just because everyone you ask, in this day age of mass social media, knows noone who is hospitalized or even knows someone knows of someone who.is hospitalized.

Does not mean that this could be a drill

I’ve a question about US intelligence briefings. The president was probably made aware of corvid in late November. Okay.

I’ve been led to believe senators and house chairs of intelligence and foreign affairs committees are subsequently ‘read in’ on the same things as the president, but in a less broadly detailed way.

So, am I correct about general information being shared with congressional chairs? And if so, were congressional chairs informed about corvid in late November of early December?

I’m thinking there was a good number that knew of it early on.
    But… how to react?
The Chinese finally stole some intellectual property they weren’t smart enough to be playing with.
    And, they infected the world.
What retaliation is called for, and sensible?
The only one I can think of is to beat them to the cure.

If corvid is so contagious why aren’t our local grocery clerks all sick or dead? In 1920 they’d literally be stacked like cordwood awaiting mass burial.

Checkstand clerks interact with hundreds of people and handle thousands of dollar bills and metal coins daily – paper money is filthy with bacteria; especially fecal matter.

The same applies to mass transit workers. Interstate buses like Greyhound be sowing death throughout the midwest.

How do we react etc? Deregulate big and small pharma. Stop grifter lawyers from grifting the legal system. Tariffs on Chinese pharma.

        Ya gotta wonder.

And the same goes for the DM’s why don’t all the damn leaders have it cuz they were running out to parade in dragon suits.

Paul in reply to Tiki. | April 11, 2020 at 6:56 pm

It looks to me like the emerging data is pointing to this:

        — this virus is HIGHLY contagious
        — but it’s not really that deadly (statistically)
        — we have vast numbers of people who have been infected but remained asymptomatic
        — the majority of people who exhibited symptoms had a mild reaction

Tiki in reply to Paul. | April 11, 2020 at 8:14 pm

I wonder about the emerging data.

If I apply that newly emergong data to approximately six local grocery stores I frequent here in Nor California? Then all of the clerks working in my limited store sample are asymptomatic – I ask the young people wiping down grocery carts if anyone in the store is sick and all answer ‘no’. I ask the stock guys. I ask the butchers and deli counter people. All say no one is sick.

Sample stores: Raley’s, Safeway, Grocery Outlet, Winco, SavMart and the 99¢ store.

In a county of 300,000 people a total of 14 people have corvid. No deaths.

My emerging data shows that grocery clerks are somehow virus proofed.

We can start by electronically confiscating the $1.2 Trillion of treasuries they bought. China must pay.

Liz in reply to Tiki. | April 11, 2020 at 5:02 pm

First, the report is from CNN so do you trust them to report anything honestly?

Then, the CNN report says that the spy agencies were tracking that something was going on, but that January 3rd was the first time anything was brought up in the daily briefing. Was that the first date of something is happening that would warrant a drastic action?

And, there are various reports of the spy agencies saying that there were no such reports back in November. There needs to be a lot of dots connected before you take the information up the chain of command.

I can see a report of “it’s early and we really don’t know, but something is happening within China” with subsequent follow-ups of how strong the data is getting to require a plan of action.

Tiki in reply to Liz. | April 11, 2020 at 5:50 pm

I think the Taiwanese IC were the first outside of the CCP to note that a nasty virus had taken root in and around Wuhan. And this was more than likely early-mid November. And accepting that that scenario is true, Taiwan’s political leadership would alert their western counterparts.

My question remains – when were congressional chairs made aware of the Taiwanese IC report? No one here seems to know if or when members are briefed. Liz, do you know the answer to those two questions? Because you’re on the edge of getting huffy with me because you think I want to finger Trump as f’ing up. I assure you such is not my motivation. And the scoldy bit about me not understanding the partisan nature of CNN reporting makes me want to tell you to gf’d. But I won’t tell you to gf’d because that would be unkind.

Is that a statue of Mao over his shoulder?

The best way we have to counter China’s attempt at rebranding is to always call it the ‘Chinese virus’.

Liz in reply to Exiliado. | April 11, 2020 at 4:50 pm

I like that the Epoch Times calls it the CCP virus.

And, someone suggested a way to respond to the Chinese trolls – mention Xi and Winnie the Pooh in the same twitter reply. A theory is that the Chinese would take down any mention of the two together.

Here’s an attempt at a bit of humow…
The Constitution died of CCP virus…

Absolutely, this is China’s fault. And the WHO bears significant responsibility for down-playing the threat during the times when other countries could have taken steps to better prepare their citizens. Why we are still giving money to the WHO and, by extension the UN, is a mystery to me. All 2020 moneys which our county was planning to provide to them should be reallocated to the businesses and people of the United States who suffered economic loss because of the actions of the WHO and UN.

    Mac45 in reply to RNJD. | April 11, 2020 at 6:05 pm

Did China shut down the US economy? Did the WHO shutdown the US economy? No. State and local governments did that. So, when are these political subdivisions going to to start reimbursing the closed business and laid off workers? Why should people in Kansas pay for the losses in NYC? Just a thought.

      Paul in reply to Mac45. | April 11, 2020 at 6:59 pm

      And on a related note:

Should these “experts”, “scientists” and “public servants” be trusted when they tell us we must revert to a pre-industrial-era standard of living in order to combat the “climate crisis?”

Barry in reply to Paul. | April 11, 2020 at 8:49 pm

“Should these “experts”, “scientists” and “public servants” be trusted…”

The answer is hell no. How come my prediction, which turns out to be correct, would be that of an amateur, while the “Top Men” got it wrong, repeatedly?

Perhaps it’s because they have lied the entire time and I told the truth as I saw it.

JusticeDelivered in reply to RNJD. | April 11, 2020 at 8:41 pm

I think we should be withholding most of the foreign aid. These expenses are staggering and our money should be used mostly to address our needs. There should be no aid any Muslim country, no aid to Africa, etc.

this from the guy that was rooting for a recession? excuse me if i don’t believe a word out of his mouth.
