CA Authorities Fill Skate Park With Sand, So Locals Use it as Dirt Bike Course Instead

“Took advantage of the all the sand the city dumped into the San Clemente skatepark then helped some local skaters dig it all out so they could do some social shredding.”

Authorities in San Clemente, CA, filled a local skate park with sand to enforce the social distancing rules in place because of the Wuhan coronavirus.

Instead of cowering, skaters and bikers turned the park into a dirt bike course. Then they all dug up all the sand to make it a skate park again.

San Clemente Parks Manager Samantha Wylie said they chose to fill in the Ralph’s Skate Court to force those who did not comply with the shutdown to stay home.

The authorities tried to keep people away with signs. When they saw people making their inside they decided to use taxpayer money to drop 37 tons of sand into the park.

The San Clemente Skatepark Coalition, a nonprofit group that raises money to support the park, never had contact with the authorities.

President Stephanie Aguilar said if they did then “the group could have urged people to stay away on their social media channels.”

At first, people used the park as a beach resort:

Over the weekend, residents picked up their shovels and buckets and made the park usable for skaters and bikers.

Butterfly Films posted the videos on its Instagram account:

The San Clemente authorities will, of course, use this as an excuse to double-down.

This is city is my former home. Over the last few years it has embraced progressiveness to the point that I moved to another state. The skate park was a big draw paid for mostly from Ralphs as a gesture to the city. A few famous surfers take pictures there and even Justin Bieber. My kids loved this place. The city has had to pay for sand to be trucked in to the Beaches because of erosion and we the taxpayers had to pay for it. Now they truck sand to the skate park to stop the spread of Covid 19 and the taxpayers get to pay for that too. Idiots.

I was too pessimistic. I predicted the homeless would turn it into a giant litter box.

That is the essence of evil!

At its core evil is selfishness!

California needs a legal Insurrection to rid itself of its psychopaths in government!

Isn’t this why the Dems want reeducation camps for those counterrevolutionaries who try to live free?

The leaders that decided dumping the sand would keep the skaters away have demonstrated that they have no clue as to who skaters are at the core. They are “fight the power” individuals no matter who is in power. It’s youth rebellion against authority….to the point of cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face. The skaters have easily won this battle. The “sand” is now in the authority’s court….now what-cha-gonna do?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the petulant, spiteful budding tyrants to counter with concrete trucks. Of course that would be horribly expensive, so they’ll then have to follow up with a tax increase.

    Go Pound Sand?

Where there’s a will there’s a way. Jolly good show.

This makes me happy. And proud. 😉

How much taxpayer money was wasted to build these in the first place? My former job had me around the drug dens a lot.

We have a skate park in my town and I’ve always wondered how the city gets around the liability issues…?

But really, cities build skate parks in a vain attempt to keep the skateboard punks away from regular civilians…..
    (Of course, that never works)

Skateboarders are generally dicks, but this time, they are our dicks.

I’d worry a lot more about indoor air than outdoor air. Sneezed or coughed aerosols might persist for hours in a poorly ventilated building (as many buildings are, ever since energy efficiency became a priority) yet even a mild breeze can be expected to disperse anything contagious outdoors.

“Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.” — H.L. Mencken

when you think city/county/state officials could not be any stupider, they put a stunt like this, they do realize it’s a skate/skateboard park, kids get injured on these park, if they don’t us protective gear, and second while they are riding they will not be that close unless do tandem skating.

They shouldn’t mess around. Land mines are the way to go.

I’ve always said that there is nothing dumber than a Californian in a voting booth except those they elect. Now we seek that skateboarders and dirt bikers are far smarter than California’s defective elected leaders. Can’t say I’m surprised, but lord, am I amused.

246 How much sand would it take to fill up the subways in NYC? Posted by: Wonkish Rogue

There is a huge “sunken” investment in the subways. Alternate transportation systems are not available nor even feasible. They are an idea whose time has passed.Perhaps it is time to abandon the city.
