UMass Boston Student is First Confirmed Case of Coronavirus in Massachusetts

“The man just had a running nose at first, but sought medical attention the day after when he felt worse.”

The student recently returned from Wuhan, China. Good thing they identified the infection so quickly.

CBS News in Boston reports:

UMass Boston Student Becomes First Case Of Coronavirus In Massachusetts

A man in his 20s has the first case of coronavirus in Massachusetts, the Boston Public Health Commission announced Saturday. The man attends UMass Boston and lives in the city. He returned from Wuhan, China on Jan. 28 through Logan Airport.

“The man recently traveled to Wuhan, China, and sought medical care soon after his return to Massachusetts. He has been isolated since that time and will continue to remain isolated until cleared by public health officials. His few close contacts have been identified and are being monitored for any sign of symptoms,” said the BPHC.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told the BPHC and the Mass. Department of Public Health about the positive test results late Friday. This case is the eighth in the country.

A nationwide public health emergency was also declared Friday.

The man just had a running nose at first, but sought medical attention the day after when he felt worse.

“We are grateful for him seeking medical attention immediately,” said Dr. Monica Bharel, the Boston Public Health Commissioner.

A running nose.Is that worse than a walking nose?

That’s a commuter campus with >10,000 students, and Wuhan virus spreads like a common cold. Unless -everyone- who caught it from this guy is found and isolated for a couple weeks, it’s going to spread throughout Boston, and then …
The fatality rate from Wuhan virus doesn’t seem to be all that bad, but the rate of complication (viral pnuemonia, need hospitalization and possibly assisted breathing for a bit) could be a disaster in itself. US Hospitals are already stretched looking after druggies, drunks, druggies and the morbidly obese. And more druggies.

Not to mention the illegals and their freshly-offered offspring.

And, evidently, this Boston university has a LOT of Chinese students. Boston is a “tech center”, so there will be lots of Chinese students all over. (That includes students and “students”.)
