Media Hoaxes: No, Trump Did Not Call Coronavirus a Hoax, and No, Fauci Was Not “Muzzled”

The media seems intent on proving over and over again that they cannot be trusted.  Having botched their sky-is-falling Russia, Ukraine, and the infamous “two scoops” scandal, they are now all-in proclaiming—completely incorrectly—that President Trump called the coronavirus a hoax.

He did not.  In fact, their response to what Trump actually said demonstrates perfectly the point he was making.

The media’s baseless attacks on Trump regarding the coronavirus have been relentless for the past week or so.

The AP even took Democrats to task for their lies about the Trump administration’s response to and preparedness for the outbreak in an article entitled, “AP FACT CHECK: Democrats distort coronavirus readiness.”

Democratic presidential contenders are describing the federal infectious-disease bureaucracy as rudderless and ill-prepared for the coronavirus threat because of budget cuts and ham-handed leadership by President Donald Trump. That’s a distorted picture. For starters, Trump hasn’t succeeded in cutting the budget.. . . . The broader point about there being “nobody here” to coordinate the response sells short what’s in place to handle an outbreak. The public health system has a playbook to follow for pandemic preparation — regardless of who’s president or whether specific instructions are coming from the White House. Those plans were put into place in anticipation of another flu pandemic, but are designed to work for any respiratory-borne disease.

Responding to the untruths spewing from Democrats and the media, Trump accurately noted that their fear-mongering and misrepresentation of his administration’s readiness were politically motivated attacks, another hoax ginned up on a foundation of lies, another example of TDS-addled lefties run amok.

Here’s what the president actually said:

Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs, you say, “How’s President Trump doing?” They go, “Oh, not good, not good.” They have no clue; they don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa. They can’t count their votes! One of my people came up to me and said, “Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over. They’ve been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it. And this is their new hoax.”But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We have 15 people in this massive country, and because of the fact that we won early, we won early, we could’ve had a lot more than that. We’re doing great. Our country is doing so great. We are so unified. We are so unified.

Trump’s remarks are not about the coronavirus itself but are a response to the falsehoods Democrats are spreading with the sole purpose of making this outbreak his Katrina.  Their unfounded attacks, Trump says, are the hoax, the big lie, intended to undermine him with outrageous and untrue claims.

How does the media leap to the defense of Democrats?  By attempting to undermine him with the outrageous and untrue claim that he said the coronavirus itself is a hoax.

Needless to say, there’s been a lot of pushback on Twitter.

On Saturday Trump noted what is actually clear from his original statement but was completely misrepresented in media reports:

“No no no, hoax referring to the action they take to try and pin this on somebody because we’ve done such a good job,” he said. “The hoax is on them, I’m not talking about what’s happening here, I’m talking about what they’re doing, that’s the hoax.”“That’s just a continuation of the hoax, whether it’s the impeachment hoax or the Russia Russia Russia hoax, this is what I’m talking about –certainly not referring to this, how could anyone refer to this, this is very serious stuff,” he said.

Trump says the Democrats’ relentless, untrue attacks on his and his administration’s response to the coronavirus are nothing but another hoax aimed, just like all the others, at taking him down.  The media screeches that Trump claims the coronavirus itself is a hoax.  You can’t make this stuff up.

Speaking of making stuff up . . . .

Earlier this week, we were treated to hysterical claims that the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, was “muzzled” by the Trump administration.

Unsurprisingly, this narrative, too, quickly unraveled.  Not only does Trump deny the claim, but so does Fauci himself. Fauci also explains the events surrounding the unfounded speculation published as “news.”

Fox News reports:

President Trump on Saturday rejected reports that Dr. Anthony Fauci — the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — was muzzled from speaking to the public about the dangers of the coronavirus.“That’s a very dishonest question, because he has had that ability to do virtually whatever he’s wanted to do,” Trump said when asked at a White House briefing if he was muzzling Fauci. “He was never muzzled.”. . . . “I have never been muzzled ever and I’ve been doing this since the administration of Ronald Reagan, I’m not being muzzled by this administration,” Fauci said.He said he was set up to go on TV shows, but when Vice President Mike Pence was appointed to lead the efforts against the global virus, he stood down from those appearances as they regrouped. He says he then reapplied for clearance to go on the shows and was approved.“So I have not been muzzled at all, that was a real misrepresentation of what happened,” he said.

Watch:

Democrats and the media know they are lying, just as they continue to lie about Trump’s comments about Charlottesville.

But the desire to score political points, the desperate #resistance hope that this is the thing that will finally bring Trump down, drives the media to beclown and shame themselves over and over. At this point, they’re no longer sad and pathetic. Now they’re just a laughingstock, a #FakeNews joke that does a disservice to their flailing industry and to our nation.
