Los Angeles County Reports First Case of Wuhan Coronavirus

Fifth US case reported in Arizona. Chinese officials say outbreak likely to continue for “some time.” NIH scientists speeding development of a vaccine.

The number of deaths and infections associated with the Wuhan Coronavirus has risen as the Los Angeles County reports its first case of the disease.

The patient had recently traveled from Wuhan City, China— the epicenter of the outbreak that has killed 56 people and sickened another 2,000.

“The infected person presented themselves for care once they noticed that they were not feeling well and is currently receiving medical treatment,” the L.A. County Department of Public Health said in a news release.

The department is working to identify people who may have had close contact with the person and is monitoring them for symptoms of the illness, according to the release.

A fifth US case is now being reported in Arizona. The patient had previously visited Wuhan.

A fifth U.S. case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Arizona’s Maricopa County. A statement released on Sunday from the Arizona Department of Health Services described the patient as “a member of the Arizona State University community who does not live in university housing.”

Back in China, reports stated that millions left Wuhan, China, before officials quarantined the city. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization indicates that it still needs more data before it can declare an international public health emergency.

Wuhan’s mayor said on Sunday that there could be about 1,000 more confirmed cases of the virus in the city. About 5 million people left Wuhan before travel was restricted, and nine million people are currently living there. Wuhan and more than a dozen other cities are currently in lockdown to restrict the virus’ spread.

The World Health Organization’s director-general, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is traveling to Beijing to meet with government and health officials. According to the organization, more data needs to be collected before the virus, which can spread through human-to-human contact, is declared a global health emergency.

One positive bit of news to keep in mind as officials confirm cases within the United States is that the coronavirus also causes SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). While there were 774 deaths worldwide, thanks to American medicine, nobody in this country died as a result of the infection.

In the United States, only eight persons were laboratory-confirmed as SARS cases. There were no SARS-related deaths in the United States. All of the eight persons with laboratory-confirmed SARS had traveled to areas where SARS-CoV transmission was occurring.

Additionally, within the next 3 months, a newly organized vaccine research group at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) will likely test the first of a number of potential experimental vaccines.

Three months from gene sequence to initial human testing would be the fastest the agency has ever gotten such a vaccine off the ground, according to Dr Anthony Fauci, the director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases within NIH.

‘I told them, “you are going to have your baptism of fire, folks”,’ Fauci said of his inaugural address to the group last week.

The bad news: Unlike SARS, people can spread the Wuhan Coronavirus during the symptomless incubation period. Chinese officials indicate the outbreak was likely to continue for some time.

The Chinese government warned today (Jan. 26) the new coronavirus spreading through the country appears to be contagious as much as two weeks before symptoms appear.

In a press briefing, the head of China’s National Health Commission, Ma Xiaowei, said scientists’ understanding of the virus was still “limited” and the outbreak was likely to continue for “some time,” according to the South China Morning Post.

Most of the patients originally diagnosed with the virus were exposed at the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan, which also trades in wild animals believed to be the source of the infection. Genetic analysis suggests the new coronavirus originated in fruit bats, according to China’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. That gives it a common ancestor with the SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) virus.

Part of the challenge in handling the spreading disease is the unease created by social media streaming images of collapsing patients and soldiers in hazmat suits.

Disturbing videos have emerged purporting to show people collapsing in the streets of the Chinese city at the centre of the new coronavirus outbreak.

Dozens of videos tagged as coming from Wuhan show people lying in the street after collapsing where they stand or being tended to by medics as people in face masks rush to help.

The Chinese government is so concerned that it has issued a blanket ban on wildlife trade.

Health authorities have linked exotic animals sold at a seafood market in the central city of Wuhan to the new coronavirus, which has killed 80 people and infected more than 2,500 others within China, and spread around the world.

The ban goes into effect immediately and will continue until the end of the “national epidemic”.

In addition, wildlife breeding centres will be quarantined, regulations strictly enforced, and the public warned not to eat wild game products, according to the orders backed by three government agencies.

This is an excellent (but long) video. No sound for the first 5 seconds. Warning: You’ll be wanting a shower after watching.

You’re right! It is a superb summary of the situation, with a lot of good background.

Would you please just stop posting that idiotic monetized Youtube link? It’s just full of idiotic nonsense and means nothing.

The Chinese government is at fault. They engineered this virus for the very characteristics that we are seeing. No vaccine. People lack natural immunity to the disease. Quick infection and short incubation period. Fatalities have occurred and are still occurring. There have even been reports that an infected person is contagious and can spread the disease before even coming down with symptoms of the disease.

And it isn’t a coincidence that this virus first made it’s appearance in Wuhan, China. As that is the location of the Wuhan Institute of Virology. (Whose website servers don’t seem to be available at this point. Odd that.) I suspect this version of the Coronavirus was engineered by the Wuhan institute (at the demand of the Chinese government) and was either accidentally or deliberately released into the population of Wuhan, China. And the rest is already history. The virus has spread worldwide. It’s killing people. And at this point there is no way to stop it.

This is the result of either the accidental or deliberate release of a biological warfare agent by the researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the Chinese government is covering up that fact.

I keep waiting for the Democrats and their news media to explain how this new Chinese virus is Trump’s fault. So far, they’ve blamed every major crisis on Trump: Forest fires, wars, terrorism, global warming, etc. Trump serves as a convenient scapegoat to deflect attention from their own mismanagement.

I expect CNN to break the news soon that an unnamed source deep within the White House said that he heard someone say that she overheard the President’s maid saying that Trump could have stopped the epidemic, but chose not to.

There are three people in Michigan suspected of having the virus, I would not be surprised if there are many states with the same problem.

People should consider buying face masks and possibly Tyvek jumpsuits, typically sold at lumber yards for painters. The advantage of those suits is that they can be misted with disinfectant.

Other supplies are hydrogen peroxide, 94% alcohol, and sodium hypochlorite (to make bleach), poly sheeting, painters tape and duck tape. you can buy a really thin poly sheeting with painters tape already applied, which would be good if you have to quarantine a family member.

Of course, we may dodge the bullet on this, in which case you can start painting.

Yeah, buy all that shit if you want to waste your money. This is an Chinese engineered virus bioweapon and duck tape, plastic suits, tarps and bleach isn’t going to do a damn bit of good preventing you from infection. The only people that will be safe are the politicians in Washington D.C. that will be immediately vaccinated and protected from this disease. The rest of us are just cannon fodder to die at the whim of the elite. And die we will now that the Chinese have fucked it up for the rest of the world.

Nobody is going to “dodge” this one. This is it. This is the big one. The end of the world as we know it.

All three came out with negative results.

“We are pleased to announce that the results were negative from Michigan’s first three patients under investigation,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, MDHHS chief medical executive and chief deputy for health. “We encourage healthcare providers to remain vigilant in screening patients for symptoms and travel history, and to contact their local health departments immediately if they see a potential case.”

Two of the three cases were sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from Washtenaw County and the other from Macomb County.

A fourth specimen from Washtenaw County was sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing today.
Washtenaw County is home to Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. So I’d expect a lot of cases to start appearing.

Anybody want to even think about a virus which is contagious for 14 days before being symptomatic getting into the LA homeless population?
I don’t.
Preppers are usually well armed for a reason.

Three of my favorite expressions:
What did you think was going to happen?
Didn’t see this coming.
If it’s not one dang thing it’s another.

Supposedly this outbreak is near a Chinese biolab research center. Whoops.

Imagine the panic when the novel coronavirus impacts the homeless populations in California’s homeless population.

I was thinking Palm Civet. Apparently they have narrowed it down to snake.or bat.

I wouldn’t mind the traditional medicine so much if they if they just cooked the g**d***ed thing.

I have eaten more than my share of snake. I made a smoke house out of a parachute and cooked all the good out of a Rattlesnake. After skinning it for the belt.

Yeah it was chewy. In fact it was like gnawing on cardboard. It sucked and in fact I probably expended calories tying to feed on the thing than I could have possibly ingested.

Apparently they have narrowed it down to snake.or bat.

Bullshite. The Chinese government came out with that excuse far too quickly for me to believe that this novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) came from any snake or bat. The Chinese government is in cover-up mode and won’t admit to the true genesis of this virus. But I believe they know a hell of a lot more than they are admitting.
