Former housing secretary Julián Castro announced this morning he has ended his presidential campaign.
Castro, once considered “a rising star in the Democratic Party,” never broke through to the top or even middle tier of the Democratic primary.
In his four-minute video, Castro promised he is “not done fighting.” The unapologetic big-government liberal vowed he will “keep working towards a nation where everyone counts, a nation where everyone can get a good job, good health care and a decent place to live.” Castro wants to decriminalize illegal border crossings and jumped on the impeachment wagon almost immediately last summer.
He took a huge hit in Houston when he asked former Vice President Joe Biden is he could remember what he said two minutes ago. People saw this as an attack on Biden’s age. Castro lost the support of Congressional Hispanic Caucus member Rep. Vicente Gonzalez over the question.
Castro failed to make the last two debates or even achieve 2% in the polls despite promising government handouts for basically everything. Along with Sen. Cory Booker, he whined to the DNC about unfair qualifications for the January primary debate. More than likely he would not have participated in that debate.
The campaign shut down operations in New Hampshire and South Carolina. Castro raised $3.5 million in the third quarter, but he only had $672,000 cash on hand.
