University Lecturer Thinks Calling Someone ‘Geek’ or ‘Nerd’ Should be a Hate Crime

“It is the case that very high IQ people very often are bullied at school”

The left uses far worse language to describe Trump and his supporters. Is that also hate speech?

The College Fix reports:

University lecturer: Calling someone ‘nerd’ or ‘geek’ should be a hate crime

A lecturer at the University of East London believes it should be a hate crime to refer to someone as a “nerd” or “geek.”

That’s right, psychotherapist Dr. Sonja Falck told the show “Good Morning Britain” that insulting someone with those words — along with “brainiac” and “egghead” — should have “legal consequences,” according to the New York Post.

On the show, Falck faced off against mathematician and teacher Bobby Seagull, who calls himself a “proud geek.” Seagull said many think the words are actually a badge of honor.

“While the term geek and nerd has [sic] historically been seen as being negative, people have now embraced the term and seen it as positive,” he said.

Indeed, who hasn’t referred to him/herself as some sort of “nerd” or “geek” at some point in life, which is typically associated with a person’s interests?

But Falck says high-IQ individuals are “a target for being bullied quite viciously.”

“I think people find it startling because very high IQ people are a minority group in society who are very much ignored, they’re not understood and largely neglected,” Falck said. “It is the case that very high IQ people very often are bullied at school, for example.”

Ms Falck (its inappropriate and impolite to refer to the of academic degrees as Dr.) is clearly not a “geek” or “nerd.” She doesn’t display the smarts or judgment. She is not even a “rocket surgeon.” Perhaps a dweeb?

Well, England doesn’t have free speech so maybe over there this makes sense. In this country, we (theoretically) DO have free speech and that means NOTHING should be a hate crime.

Using bad words might be evidence of malice but it must not be prosecuted. And, btw, England would be a better place if they had some free speech too.

that insulting someone with those words … should have “legal consequences,”
And……. the reductio ad absurdum begins.
These are often the same people who deny all “slippery slope” arguments. *smdh*

I was half expecting her to say “those jocks and shoprats shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it.”

Arthur Fonzarelli hardest hit.

In the right circles, “Geek” is a term of honor. “Nerd” is passé.

They love to criminalize everything of which they don’t approve. Far from protecting those who they (supposedly) wish to protect, this totalitarian tendency is more likely to destroy human freedoms than anything else in the whole progressive program.

the more people like her that enter society, the further down the sewer we will fall. the logical end point is obvious.
