Chick-fil-A Will Focus Charitable Donations on ‘Education, Homelessness and Hunger’

Chick-fil-A Will Focus Charitable Donations on ‘Education, Homelessness and Hunger’

LGBT groups have targeted the fast-food chain due to donations to Christian organizations.

Chick-fil-A President and COO Tim Tassopoulos told Bisnow its foundation will no longer donate to faith-based organizations:

After donating to more than 300 charitable organizations this year, the Atlanta-based fast-food chain will instead focus on three initiatives with one accompanying charity each: education, homelessness and hunger.

“There’s no question we know that, as we go into new markets, we need to be clear about who we are,” Chick-fil-A President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Tassopoulos said in an interview with Bisnow. “There are lots of articles and newscasts about Chick-fil-A, and we thought we needed to be clear about our message.”

The LGBT community protested Chick-fil-A due to its contributions to the Salvation Army, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Paul Anderson Youth Home.

These organizations are not anti-LGBT. They do not advocate against homosexuality. They’re simply Christian organizations.

The protests expanded to include cities, universities, and airports.

Airports refused to have the company in its terminals. The Chick-fil-A in Reading, England, did not have its lease extended because the landlord said “the mall is meant to ‘offer an inclusive space where everyone is welcome.'”

Um, find me ONE Chick-fil-A that refused service to a homosexual.

Boston will finally get its first Chick-fil-A in a few months “after the late Mayor Thomas Menino pledged to ban the company from opening within city limits after Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy voiced his opposition to gay marriage in 2012.”

Despite the protests, Chick-fil-A’s sales remained steady. The protests only supposedly hurt the fast-food chain’s brand:

Chick-fil-A surpassed $1B in sales in 2001 and eclipsed the $5B mark in 2013, the year following Cathy’s statement on gay marriage. The chicken chain became the third-largest U.S. fast-food chain this year with $10.5B in sales, according to Nation’s Restaurant News data. Only McDonald’s and Starbucks bring in more revenue among fast-food chains.

New Charities

Bisnow continued:

Starting next year, the Chick-fil-A Foundation plans to give $9M to organizations like Junior Achievement USA to support education, Covenant House International to fight homelessness and community food banks for its hunger initiative in each city where the chain operates. The company intends to dedicate $25K to a local food bank each time it opens a new location.

“This provides more focus and more clarity,” Tassopoulos said. “We think [education, hunger and homelessness] are critical issues in communities where we do business in the U.S.”

Chick-fil-A said the foundation did not donate to the other organizations due to their LGBT stances. The foundation donated to the FCA to help with summer youth camps. The donations to the Salvation Army went to its “Angel Tree program, which provides Christmas gifts to children in need.”

The foundation hopes to see $32 million in charitable donations in 2020.

Something tells me this will do little to shut down protests. Meanwhile, I’ll still enjoy the Lord’s chicken.

Sounds like they caved to the SJWs. That never works. The protesters will smell weakness, come up with some new demands, and they’ll be back next week.

“Worse than a mistake, a blunder.”
Social Justice Warriors will be satisfied at total capitulation or destruction. Their appetite has only been whetted. Next will be ‘Are they giving to the right local groups’? Do they support the battered women’s shelter which accepts transgendered women? Good. Or are they donating to the homeless shelters where people with penises are in this shelter and those with vaginas are in that shelter? Bad.

I sincerely doubt any of the Chick-fil-A haters will start buying Chick-fil-A. But some supporters might think again about future purchases.

The SJWs will be attacking twice as hard now that there’s blood in the water. Enjoy your chicken sandwiches while you can still get them.

I will not be eating their chicken sandwiches. Going forward I will increase my SA kettle contributions, but I will never again darken the door of a CFA.

Which charities will lose out, now that Chick-fil-A has shifted focus to education, homelessness, and hunger? The Salvation Army, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Paul Anderson Youth Home. So it will stop donating to charities that help with education, homelessness, and hunger, in order to focus more on education, homelessness, and hunger.

The Salvation Army has been THE consistent charity to help with education, homelessness, and hunger.
Chick Fil A basically libeled them.

I’ll double my donation to them this year. If everybody else does the same, nobody will notice that Chicken S… turned tail.

I see a lot more red meat in my future diet.

This is disappointing.

What’s that evergreen thing about from David Burger:

1. Identify a respected institution.
2. Kill it.
3. Gut it.
4. Wear it’s carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.

Chick-fil-A already doesn’t discriminate in employment on LBQT stuff or who gets service.

Yupp.

They did this with the Boy Scouts. While the organization still remains, the membership is dropping, even with the addition of Girls being allowed in. Even more alarming is the number of adult members dropping.
The hate these SWJs feel is beyond normal bounds. We might keep on trying to take the higher ground, but they infiltrate the organizations they hate, and push to make changes from within. At some point we will reach the tipping point where nothing remains sacred. Churches are afflicted with this, and you see so many resemble nothing close to that which follows the word of God. And most of the SWJs are atheists to begin with.

I stopped giving to the SA years ago when they received a $1.5B gift from the Kroc estate figuring that they didn’t need my small contributions anymore but given this deeply disappointing move from Chicken ^&*% Company I plan to resume giving to the SA again this year.

This is all part and parcel of the Progressives’ “long march through the institutions” as preached by 1930’s Communist Antonio Gramsci, and furthered by the “Frankfurt School” that left Germany and took up residence at Columbia University. The blanket term for what’s going on is “Cultural Marxism.”

At root, it’s all a Satanic effort to erode and ultimately collapse the Judeo-Christian underpinnings of Western Civilization.

Maybe they should have been more discriminating about who they hired and let have a franchise. They’ve got perverts working for them and running franchises. When you do that you make friends and you don’t want to hurt your friends feelings, even sodomite friends.

I am so disappointed in Chick-fil-A. They wimped out. Salvation Army works with everyone, and do so much good, especially for people with substance abuse problems. Makes me not want to go to Chick-fil-A anymore! I think this is going to damage their business. Dennis Prager said today that it seems Chick-fil-A fears the Left more than the Lord.

I’ve emailed them to convey my disappointment- not that I expect it to do much good.
But, as we’ve seen, the squeaky wheel……….

Unlike the NFL, Nike, and a host of other hard Left “woke” companies, I actually bought Chick fil A’s products.

Not any more.

Instead, I will donate the money I used to spend on spicy chicken sandwiches to the Salvation Army instead. I hope Tassopoulos has a BIG appetite because something tells me he will have a lot of unsold chicken sandwiches on his hand.

“There’s no question we know that, as we go into new markets, we need to be clear about who we are […] we thought we needed to be clear about our message.”

So is this who they are now? Is this the message they want to send to all the people who supported them in adversity?

This is pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if this is a ham-handed case of “dark advertising” on Chick fil A’s part.

We have seen this before. When Hollywood has a woke potential box-office bust on their hands, one trick they like to use to drum up business is to attack (pick one or more of the following) conservatives, males, whites, Jews, Christians, or heterosexuals. The Wokerazzi hopes to offset any loss among long-time traditional fans of (say) the Terminator franchise by attracting what they imagine is a gigantic legion of woke customers just waiting for a “non-racist” movie they can support. A similar calculus MAY be at work in Chick fil A’s thinking.

Of course “dark advertising” rarely seems to work as planned. But Tassopoulos should take heart: he may yet get invited to all the best Enlightened Cocktail Parties (TM).

My first thought was that they must have done it to satisfy a corporate fiduciary responsibility. It is a privately held firm but I have no idea if it is wholly owned by family members with the same religious fervor or if they have other partners and investors who are not thrilled with the constant struggles.

I strongly doubt that. No matter how secularized and irreligious the investors may be, the self-immolation of the Star Wars and Terminator franchises in Hollywood should have been a clear warning to Chick fil A about the dangers of pissing off your loyal customers in order to appease a tiny hate-filled minority who will never buy your product anyway.

My guess is the suits at Chick fil A value virtue signaling and showing the “Deplorables” the middle finger. Time will tell if this is a smart business move, but history clearly shows that it is likely not.

Paul In Sweden in reply to Recovering Lutheran. | November 19, 2019 at 12:23 am

Which loyal customers? The ones that say grace before they eat their chicken sandwiches or the ones that like posting stories about Chick-fil-a on the internet that piss off the LGBTs?

Which loyal customers will not purchase from Chick-fil-a at the football game on Sunday?

Next step: Open on Sundays.

I haven’t yet seen a quote on the situation from CEO Dan Cathy. He seems like a good man. If he supports this then he’s not as good (or as smart) as I thought.

I hesitate to fully condemn till the whole story comes out. It could be that his own donations will make up for some of the money, and I seriously doubt people will have the ability to check on what the company donates to.
This isn’t just about bowing to the liberal haters who protest on everything, it is about governing boards of airports, cities and towns that are either removing them from doing business, or no allowing them to branch to new areas.
We live in a time of supreme evil that hides behind values of equality, when they are the furthest thing from it. Society is in near free fall from this capitulation to all things liberal. Is it any wonder the left in the House can show zero crimes yet is still forging ahead with impeachment? It is the same thing.
The left, I believe, wants a civil war. They are acting similar to how the Muslim countries act when negotiating peace with Israel. Demand concessions, then when they get met, demand more till talks fail. Hitler did the same thing. This is their play book, and upright people fail to see it because decent people don’t want to believe such evil exists.

Stupid squared.

I could care less anymore. A lot of people helped them to stand up to the fascist cabal that demanded conformity, and they just spit on us.

Why are so many corporate bigshots such complete cowards?

So when the meme comes out, Christians will be the girl looking back at her boyfriend, the boyfriend will be Chick-fil-a, and the other girl will be a homosexual eating a fried chicken sandwich.

I believe the Salvation Army is the most efficient charity in America. They give a larger percentage of their donations to the needy than any other agency. When hurricanes or natural disasters strike they are there first and never ask for anyone’s religious identity or bank account info before offering aid. Why would Chick-Fil-A do something this stupid? Why bring religion into a needed aid? What has Christianity to do with LGBTQXYZ’s? Truitt Cathy, their founder, would be very upset with this decision.

Well apparently the Popeyes sandwich is the bomb, people literally killing over it so

“Love my chicken from Popeyes”!

They can kiss my business goodby

Since virtue signaling is all the rage, I want to join in. I just made a donation to the Salvation Army. Helping the weak and powerless is one of MY values, Mr Tassopoulos.

I urge readers to contribute as well, or at the very least stop supporting Chick fil A. One way to get more decisions like Chick fil A’s is to look the other way when they happen. Don’t subsidize them anymore.

Too bad the company caved to unreasonable demands. These alphabets of deviants will never accept any guidance from a moral company.

It is folly to create a class of people, with special rights, based on how they reach orgasm.

My second cousin was a Army nurse during WWII and was stationed in the Pacific. She never had anything but good to say about the Salvation Army, but she wasn’t terribly fond of the Red Cross.

So, so, so sad.

This is payback by the LGBT perverts. They blamed the passage of DOMA in CA during the 2008 election of Obama on Christian churches (which was a lie, it was blacks and latinos who carried the day but you can’t say that). These perverts have zero tolerance for Christianity. They are only tolerant and inclusive on a very narrow range of beliefs and opinions.

Well, something happened. Who am I to believe what this means: a company with a strong record of doing what they think is right or the rabid SJWs? I think that I will forego deciding until I see how things turn out.

My guess going forward is this: The LBQT-whatever community is well connected and small. A committee will emerge for every CFA franchise in the country, with a Political Officer, and they will supervise the local charity work. Any “deviance” from PC approved will be widely broadcast. But, pushing the envelope of deviance, donations to, say the transsupportive shelter, won’t be. All those of faith who were supportive before won’t know the dark side of new giving.

Kruschev was the political officer for the Red Army at Stalingrad. It’s an office with a long history.

Antifundamentalist | November 19, 2019 at 5:15 pm

I’ve always maintained that Chick Fil-A should be able to donate to whatever causes they choose, and as long as they continue to make a good sandwich at a fair price, I’ll continue to buy them. I’m glad they will continue to support local homeless shelters, and I hope that they will continue to show their Christian values by bringin food to people stranded on highways and standing outside of nightclubs after shootings.

Sad! Caving in to the LGBTQXYZX crowd will gain exactly nothing in terms of them “accepting” Chick-Fil-A. I can’t understand why Truett Kathy agreed to this nonsense. I suppose the Board of Directors overrule him since money talks. When you worship Mammon, you deny God. I’ll still patronize the restaurants. but it makes me sad that the company rolled over for the perverts.

Frankly, this kind of thing has me rethinking conservatism and the free market as a whole.

If conservatives can’t even hold institutions like Chik-Fil-A or the church (See, for example: https://pulpitandpen.org/2019/09/06/liberals-taking-over-southern-baptist-convention-mark-devers-social-justice-sunday-school-exposed/), then why support them or believe they have any purpose whatsoever?

Frankly, it increasingly feels to me like the old Leftist critique that the right exists to serve the masters of business and get nothing in return seems more true than not.
