Transgender Coffee Shop Employee Shouts At Conservative Customer, Gets Fired

Conservative communications specialist at the Nebraska Family Alliance Marilyn Synek (pictured in featured image) endured a horrible experience at her favorite breakfast eatery. While there, she was verbally attacked by a transgender employee of the coffee shop and told in no uncertain terms not only to leave but to never come back.

Synek had been sitting there, quietly enjoying her breakfast.  She wasn’t holding a protest or doing anything that might possibly provoke such a response, as admitted by the employee who apparently took issue with Synek’s work-related conservative activism.

The owners of the restaurant did the right thing and fired the employee and apologized to Synek.

Synek described the incident in a Facebook post:

This morning, I was asked to leave Cultiva Coffee and never come back because of my conservative principles. One of my favorite weekly traditions is to start my day at 7 AM with a Cultiva breakfast. I’ve done it loyally once a week since I moved to Lincoln. Today, an employee of the shop approached me and said, “Marilyn Synek! I didn’t recognize you until now, but I just realized who you are, what you stand for, and the work you do. You are f****** bigoted trash, and we do not want you in our restaurant. Over 80% of the people who work here are queer. You are not f****** wanted in our restaurant, so get out and don’t come back! If you do try to come back, we will all refuse any service to you.” The cafe was busy with other customers who watched the incident transpire.I’ve never broadcasted my political opinions in the shop before, and I have always treated the employees of Cultiva with respect and courtesy. While we, as Americans, can disagree politically, it is very important to maintain civility when interacting with people who hold different world views. Tolerance goes both ways, and the division in our current political climate will perpetuate if we neglect basic civility.

She later added the following update:

Update: One of owners of Cultiva just messaged me and apologized for what transpired. They said they did not condone the incident and told me I was welcome back to their business! I’ve always enjoyed their coffee and crepes, and I accept their apology.

The employee posted about the incident on Facebook, as well:

Hey y’all. I deactivated my account last week, for reasons unrelated to this, I’m fine and still have messenger if you want to chat, but I will be deactivating again after letting this status sit for a bit. This morning, while I was working a shift, an employee of the Nebraska Family Alliance, and a former member of Ben Sasse’s campaign staff came into the store. If you’re unfamiliar with Sasse’s, or the Nebraska Family Alliance’s stance on the LGBT2QIA+ community, and our rights as Nebraskans to experience equality under the law and enjoy employment and housing non discrimination protections, I encourage you to look them up. They’re real peaches.Nebraskans like myself do lose our jobs, and sometimes our living arrangements, because of who we are, and people like the Nebraska Family Alliance are why. Their money, their influence, and their national political allies are why Lincoln cannot mount a successful ballot initiative concerning Lincoln’s Fairness Ordinance. When this person was leaving the store, I told them in no uncertain terms, and admittedly vulgar ones, that they were not welcome to come back. For that, I have lost my employment. So, for those keeping track, in Nebraska, you can be fired or lose your home because you identify in the LGBT2QIA+ umbrella, and you can also be fired for telling people who fight for that status quo to get lost.Nebraska. It’s nice.#anotherdayanotherfightforequity

Apparently this now-former employee actually believes that shrieking at people in public, while on the job no less, is some kind of “fight for equity.”  It’s hard to fathom how far astray our society and culture has drifted from common decency and respect toward others when people truly believe this is acceptable behavior.

Okay, it’s not that hard to fathom given that radical leftists are taught to protest in college and to think of themselves as somehow exempt from socio-cultural norms of behavior.  They’re even prompted to attack conservatives in public places by leading Democrats.

The owners of the coffee shop state that they are “proudly liberal” and that “Whatever your race, religion, gender identity, or general political beliefs, we just want you to enjoy our food and coffee, and have a good time, and tell other people you had a good time.”

The Lincoln Journal Star reports:

Cultiva fired the employee shortly after the altercation, according to a post by Sharon Grossman, one of the coffee shop’s owners.”We do not condone this behavior and never have,” Grossman wrote. “Our sincere apologies to anyone who had to witness this incident.”

. . . .”What I did was unprofessional and I certainly would not want to be treated the way I treated that woman today,” Weiss said in an interview. “The fact of the matter is, that person and her political allies advocate for that type of behavior to be legal and they do it every single year in the Legislature.”

Jason Anderson, another co-owner of Cultiva Coffee, said the store’s location near 11th and G streets routinely draws a socially, racially and politically diverse crowd from the Near South neighborhood, lawyers working in south downtown, and politicos of all stripes from the Capitol nearby.”We welcome everyone into our shop and do not condone the action of any employee that makes anyone feel unwelcome,” he said. “Making sure people feel welcome is our goal.”

It sounds like this former employee would do well to give some thought to the proper (i.e. potentially effective) way to “fight” for whatever it is the fired worker was “fighting” for that morning.  Maybe go and protest outside the Nebraska Family Alliance, maybe start a write-in campaign to the Nebraska legislature, maybe do anything that might make an actual difference.

It’s hard to see how making conservatives the sympathetic victim, while losing your job in the process, moves the needle one bit in favor of the radical left.  But hey, if that’s the deal, it’s a pretty good one . . . for conservatives.
