Transgender Coffee Shop Employee Shouts At Conservative Customer, Gets Fired

“Marilyn Synek! I didn’t recognize you until now, but I just realized who you are, what you stand for, and the work you do. You are f****** bigoted trash”

Conservative communications specialist at the Nebraska Family Alliance Marilyn Synek (pictured in featured image) endured a horrible experience at her favorite breakfast eatery. While there, she was verbally attacked by a transgender employee of the coffee shop and told in no uncertain terms not only to leave but to never come back.

Synek had been sitting there, quietly enjoying her breakfast.  She wasn’t holding a protest or doing anything that might possibly provoke such a response, as admitted by the employee who apparently took issue with Synek’s work-related conservative activism.

The owners of the restaurant did the right thing and fired the employee and apologized to Synek.

Synek described the incident in a Facebook post:

This morning, I was asked to leave Cultiva Coffee and never come back because of my conservative principles.

One of my favorite weekly traditions is to start my day at 7 AM with a Cultiva breakfast. I’ve done it loyally once a week since I moved to Lincoln. Today, an employee of the shop approached me and said, “Marilyn Synek! I didn’t recognize you until now, but I just realized who you are, what you stand for, and the work you do. You are f****** bigoted trash, and we do not want you in our restaurant. Over 80% of the people who work here are queer. You are not f****** wanted in our restaurant, so get out and don’t come back! If you do try to come back, we will all refuse any service to you.” The cafe was busy with other customers who watched the incident transpire.

I’ve never broadcasted my political opinions in the shop before, and I have always treated the employees of Cultiva with respect and courtesy. While we, as Americans, can disagree politically, it is very important to maintain civility when interacting with people who hold different world views. Tolerance goes both ways, and the division in our current political climate will perpetuate if we neglect basic civility.

She later added the following update:

Update: One of owners of Cultiva just messaged me and apologized for what transpired. They said they did not condone the incident and told me I was welcome back to their business! I’ve always enjoyed their coffee and crepes, and I accept their apology.

The employee posted about the incident on Facebook, as well:

Hey y’all. I deactivated my account last week, for reasons unrelated to this, I’m fine and still have messenger if you want to chat, but I will be deactivating again after letting this status sit for a bit.

This morning, while I was working a shift, an employee of the Nebraska Family Alliance, and a former member of Ben Sasse’s campaign staff came into the store. If you’re unfamiliar with Sasse’s, or the Nebraska Family Alliance’s stance on the LGBT2QIA+ community, and our rights as Nebraskans to experience equality under the law and enjoy employment and housing non discrimination protections, I encourage you to look them up. They’re real peaches.

Nebraskans like myself do lose our jobs, and sometimes our living arrangements, because of who we are, and people like the Nebraska Family Alliance are why. Their money, their influence, and their national political allies are why Lincoln cannot mount a successful ballot initiative concerning Lincoln’s Fairness Ordinance.

When this person was leaving the store, I told them in no uncertain terms, and admittedly vulgar ones, that they were not welcome to come back. For that, I have lost my employment.

So, for those keeping track, in Nebraska, you can be fired or lose your home because you identify in the LGBT2QIA+ umbrella, and you can also be fired for telling people who fight for that status quo to get lost.
Nebraska. It’s nice.

Apparently this now-former employee actually believes that shrieking at people in public, while on the job no less, is some kind of “fight for equity.”  It’s hard to fathom how far astray our society and culture has drifted from common decency and respect toward others when people truly believe this is acceptable behavior.

Okay, it’s not that hard to fathom given that radical leftists are taught to protest in college and to think of themselves as somehow exempt from socio-cultural norms of behavior.  They’re even prompted to attack conservatives in public places by leading Democrats.

The owners of the coffee shop state that they are “proudly liberal” and that “Whatever your race, religion, gender identity, or general political beliefs, we just want you to enjoy our food and coffee, and have a good time, and tell other people you had a good time.”

The Lincoln Journal Star reports:

Cultiva fired the employee shortly after the altercation, according to a post by Sharon Grossman, one of the coffee shop’s owners.

“We do not condone this behavior and never have,” Grossman wrote. “Our sincere apologies to anyone who had to witness this incident.”

. . . .”What I did was unprofessional and I certainly would not want to be treated the way I treated that woman today,” Weiss said in an interview. “The fact of the matter is, that person and her political allies advocate for that type of behavior to be legal and they do it every single year in the Legislature.”

Jason Anderson, another co-owner of Cultiva Coffee, said the store’s location near 11th and G streets routinely draws a socially, racially and politically diverse crowd from the Near South neighborhood, lawyers working in south downtown, and politicos of all stripes from the Capitol nearby.

“We welcome everyone into our shop and do not condone the action of any employee that makes anyone feel unwelcome,” he said. “Making sure people feel welcome is our goal.”

It sounds like this former employee would do well to give some thought to the proper (i.e. potentially effective) way to “fight” for whatever it is the fired worker was “fighting” for that morning.  Maybe go and protest outside the Nebraska Family Alliance, maybe start a write-in campaign to the Nebraska legislature, maybe do anything that might make an actual difference.

It’s hard to see how making conservatives the sympathetic victim, while losing your job in the process, moves the needle one bit in favor of the radical left.  But hey, if that’s the deal, it’s a pretty good one . . . for conservatives.

service staff are easy to find, good regular customers are what pays the bills.

If that employee wanted to change the way the LBGT2QIA+ community is treated, perhaps a little sugar instead of salt would work. She treated them with respect, they should treat her (and everyone else) likewise.

Yes, but where’s the drama in that?

Why is this so-called “Transgender” not happy? Why so angry, mad and attached to such a short fuse? You “Transitioned”. Isn’t that what you wanted? You were working in a job that didn’t attack your “Identity”. What is wrong? Oh, I see. The work of a leftist is paramount, and never done until the universe is annihilated. Maybe, just maybe, you should’ve sat down with wise council (prior to “The Transition”) and spoke truth to gender reality. Possibly, there was an alternative approach that supported the value of who you are as a live, unique male or female struggling with life. But, then again that’s my opinion.

It’s hard for the low IQ to understand but you are the face of the company your work for 24/7/365.

‘The owners of the coffee shop state that they are “proudly liberal” and that “Whatever your race, religion, gender identity, or general political beliefs, we just want you to enjoy our food and coffee, and have a good time, and tell other people you had a good time.”’

That’s about impossible in 2019. If you’re ‘liberal’, you’re so far left that Karl Marx is a moderate.

There’s a pretty wide gulf between a liberal and a leftist.

I was reading a book about feminism this weekend. One of the quotes in the book hit home for me. It said something to the effect of we have become a culture that only emphasizes the individual. The importance of the community is only measured in how it advances our individual wants and desires.
Is it such a bad thing to care about the community? I would argue that it IS possible to be liberal and accept everyone into your business with respect and dignity just as it IS possible to be conservative and welcome everyone into your business. (Consider Cultiva Coffee versus Chick-fil-A. Both can hold their principals to heart but both can serve their communities ignoring customers belief, realizing it is that customer’s right to hold their belief. Kudos to both).
As Ms. Synek wrote, “Tolerance goes both ways.”

Sorry but you have that backwards.

If in 2019 you’re a liberal than in the eyes of the leftists you’re so far right you make Ronald Reagan look like a card carrying commie.

Leftists hate liberals. Even though we on the right often look at them as the same they are not. Leftists are authoritarians to the core of their beings. Liberals actually believe in things like the Bill of Rights.

Perhaps it’s time to stop calling everyone on the left a liberal when clearly they are not all liberals.

      Gremlin1974 in reply to TheOldZombie. | September 16, 2019 at 12:41 pm

Agreed. I decided a couple of years ago to make an effort to make the distinction between liberal and leftist. If you look at what a real liberal believes in they are actually more center right, at least compared to today’s left.

Correction: in Nebraska, you can be fired or lose your home because your an intolerant ass that thinks your are more important than you actually are.

You lose your jobs because you are mentally and temperamentally unfit for employment.

This person has no grasp of reality. People like him/her/it lost jobs and homes because they are loud-mouthed ass-holes. They would do better for themselves (ie housing, employment) and enhance the public image of themselves and folk like them if they just behaved like normal folk and went about their daily business. Eventually people might figure out they were “different” but would shrug their shoulders and say something like “… always seemed like a decent person; what’s the big deal” and go on about their business.

But they are always “hey, I’m gay” or “I’m trans…”. Until they get up on the stump screaming, no one cares. “Who cares what you are? Can you hit a curve ball?” is what most would say.

… always seemed like a decent person
Of course, that’s also the thing all the neighbors of the serial killer say after he’s finally arrested. 😉

DaveGinOly in reply to GWB. | September 15, 2019 at 12:32 pm

Which only goes to show that if a serial killer can behave in a normal and civil way with his neighbors then a radical transgender person should be able to do the same. What does it say about the radical left that they can’t conduct themselves as civilly as the neighborhood serial killer?

I am always somewhat amused that the “obvious lesbians” in Portland still feel a need to have a rainbow sewed onto every piece of clothing in their wardrobe. And it also makes me wonder how “straights” would be received in public were they to adorn themselves similarly. I guess we have some indication there with how people wearing MAGA hats are received. But what if we had something along the lines of a simple silhouette of a male and a female holding hands. I really do wonder how much ire that would arouse, and to what limits the “others” would go to justify and express their indignation.

It takes me back a broadcast on WHFS in DC during a Pride Rally. The morning DJ’s had a faux curmudgeon who would call it, and he was caught in a traffic jam due to the rally. His response to “we’re queer and we’re here” was “well, I’m straight and I’m late so get the hell out of the way.” That is my first thought every time I see a “queer and here” sign.

Google, Twitter, Facebook and Amazon won’t hire her?

Does LGBT2QIA+ Include serial killers, vampires and Jeffrey Dahmer?

‘LGBT2QIA+”

Alphabet people on parade.

“Over 80% of the people who work here are queer. You are not f****** wanted in our restaurant, so get out and don’t come back! If you do try to come back, we will all refuse any service to you“

This employee felt comfortable enough to believe xe would be supported with this outburst AND with the thought that the other employees would refuse service to her also.

Don’t go back! These are true fascists who will likely serve you food that they have spit in or otherwise tainted. Take your business somewhere they haven’t already informed you they hate you.

Milhouse in reply to elle. | September 15, 2019 at 2:59 am

She did think that. Evidently she was wrong. There’s no reason to suppose the remaining employees think like her.

The left is almost entirely mentally ill.

If It doesn’t know which sex it is, it probably doens’t know that it should treat customers with respect.

It is the Democrats running for the nomination in microcosm. Trump will win in a landslide because the left is going so insane that it is like meeting an aggressive homeless person, giving a rictus smile, being pretrenaturally polite, but running away as fast and as far as you can when the chance presents itself.

The owners of the coffee shop are probably reasonable people. I wonder who they will vote for.

(See Tim Pool of TimCast fame)

”What I did was unprofessional and I certainly would not want to be treated the way I treated that woman today,” Weiss said in an interview. “The fact of the matter is, that person and her political allies advocate for that type of behavior to be legal and they do it every single year in the Legislature.”

And indeed that type of behavior should be legal. Note that Ms Weiss was not arrested; she seems to think she deserved to be. That’s weird.

The fact of the matter is, that person and her political allies advocate for that type of behavior to be legal
The fact is, they have never advocated for that sort of behavior. And the idea you (the crazy woman, not Milhouse) hold that they have done so is a good indicator that you should not be out in public unless medicated.

Milhouse in reply to GWB. | September 15, 2019 at 11:41 am

The fact is, they have never advocated for that sort of behavior.

She’s not claiming they have. But she correctly claims they advocate for that sort of behavior to be legal — and I agree with them. It should be socially condemned, but the law should keep its nose out of it.

SUE, Marilyn. It’s the only thing that works.

And “transgender”, my ass. Transvestite, is what he is.

Transgendered: the newest cause celeb in mental illness.

And IT can’t understand why IT got fired! You can’t Dictate Owner’s Policy! Then IT went on a rampage trying to gain sympathy.. because IT last IT’s Job because It was a dumbass…

I wouldn’t set foot in the coffee shop ever again.. If so many Queers work there who knows what one of them might do to get what they feel is revenge!
