In November, Professor Jacobson heads to DC to discuss our coverage of the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College Case.

Join us as TPPF’s Thomas Lindsay, Ph.D. has a conversation with Cornell Law Professor and Legal Insurrection website publisher William A. Jacobson. Topics will include how campus free speech problems have moved off campus through the “call out” and “cancel” culture, the role of “intersectionality” theory, and the threat posed by high tech content filtering. Professor Jacobson also will discuss his experiences as a conservative professor on a liberal campus. Complimentary lunch will be provided.

What:
The James Wilson Institute will host Prof. William Jacobson for a public lecture on campus identity politics, college administrators, and a family bakery caught in the crosshairs. Prof. Jacobson has chronicled the ongoing legal battle Gibson’s Bakery has fought against Oberlin College at Legal Insurrection, an influential website he founded and where publishes on topics concerning law and politics. In his lecture, Prof. Jacobson will discuss the background to the case, the trial, the victory for Gibson’s, and what the case portends for the future of identity politics on campuses across the country.
Prof. Jacobson is Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Securities Law Clinic at Cornell Law School. Prior to joining the Cornell Law faculty in 2007, Prof. Jacobson had a highly successful civil litigation and arbitration practice in Providence, Rhode Island, concentrating in investment, employment, and business disputes in the securities industry, including many high profile cases reported in leading newspapers and magazines. Prof. Jacobson also is the founder and publisher of Legal Insurrection, a popular politics and law website. He is frequently quoted in the media on political and legal topics, has authored many Op-Eds in major publications, and appears on television and radio to discuss politics and the law. Samantha Mandeles, Legal Insurrection Foundation’s Senior Researcher and Outreach Director will also be in attendance.
The event will be held at Hillsdale College’s Kirby Center (227 Massachusetts Ave. NE). Doors open at 5:30pm for light refreshments as we gather. The program begins at 6:00pm.
