We’re really excited to announce our upcoming events.
In October, Professor Jacobson will trek down to the Lone Star State to discuss the raging free speech wars. We also hope to have an opportunity to meet you, provided you’re in the area. In November, Professor Jacobson heads to DC to discuss our coverage of the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College Case.

The James Wilson Institute will host Prof. William Jacobson for a public lecture on campus identity politics, college administrators, and a family bakery caught in the crosshairs. Prof. Jacobson has chronicled the ongoing legal battle Gibson’s Bakery has fought against Oberlin College at Legal Insurrection, an influential website he founded and where publishes on topics concerning law and politics. In his lecture, Prof. Jacobson will discuss the background to the case, the trial, the victory for Gibson’s, and what the case portends for the future of identity politics on campuses across the country.
Prof. Jacobson is Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Securities Law Clinic at Cornell Law School. Prior to joining the Cornell Law faculty in 2007, Prof. Jacobson had a highly successful civil litigation and arbitration practice in Providence, Rhode Island, concentrating in investment, employment, and business disputes in the securities industry, including many high profile cases reported in leading newspapers and magazines. Prof. Jacobson also is the founder and publisher of Legal Insurrection, a popular politics and law website. He is frequently quoted in the media on political and legal topics, has authored many Op-Eds in major publications, and appears on television and radio to discuss politics and the law. Samantha Mandeles, Legal Insurrection Foundation’s Senior Researcher and Outreach Director will also be in attendance.
The event will be held at Hillsdale College’s Kirby Center (227 Massachusetts Ave. NE). Doors open at 5:30pm for light refreshments as we gather. The program begins at 6:00pm.

Chicago? Indianapolis? Likely one of those two, I imagine. Chicago is about 90 minutes away from me, while Indianapolis is about 2 1/2 hours away (based on how I drive). If you were to decide instead on South Bend, Indiana (home of Notre Dame!!, and Mayor Pete!!), that would be only about 20 minutes from me. If you chose Elkhart, Indiana, I would owe you one.
Maybe consider the nw side of Houston. Could be a good time…

Like E-Verify that prevents employers from hiring undocumented workers in the first place. This would be far better than the current regime of “I-9 raids” that make immigrants vulnerable to abuse by employers and rarely result in serious penalties for employers.
ESTABLISH LEGAL IMMIGRATION CENTERS AROUND THE WORLD
To recruit the best working families in Latin America and the Caribbean and elsewhere to join the American family. Not only does this provide a safer path to America for potential immigrants, but it enables us to finally be proactive about our immigration policy, instead of always being reactive.
SECURE THE BORDERS
We want immigrants to come to America — but we do not want them coming here in unsafe and illegal ways. Today, too many potential immigrants risk their lives by illicitly crossing desert borders and paying human smugglers. To fix this problem, we must establish a safer way for potential immigrants to come to America — and we also must secure the border. Of course, Trump’s border wall will be completely ineffective (not to mention outrageously expensive). Truly effective border control is about high-tech night vision cameras, paying staff to monitor them, and non-stop enforcement that will let potential immigrants know that the only way to work in the U.S. is to enter through legal, safe channels.

Come to Columbus Ohio, only 2 hours from the belly of the beast, Oberlin, and only one hour from Yellow Springs, the home of Antioch College where the hair is purple, the noses pierced, the minds atrophied, the opinions predictably boring, the cars heavy with “coexist” bumper stickers, and where it is always 1968.
Be careful in Austin. They are doing their best to duplicate California’s homeless situation, tent cities on the sidewalks and all.
Houston is doable for me though I’ll see if I can make it there. You pick the two purple Texas strongholds on purpose?
