University of Kansas Faculty Wants School to Boot ‘Bastion of Bigotry’ Chick-fil-A From Campus

The faculty at the University of Kansas has asked Chancellor Doug Girod to boot delicious Chick-fil-A from campus. The outrage comes after the school gave the magnificent fast-food restaurant a prime location in the student union. From The Kansas City Star (emphasis mine):

“KU granted Chick-fil-A, a bastion of bigotry, a prime retail location in the heart of our campus,” KU’s Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council said in a letter sent this week to Chancellor Doug Girod, the provost’s office and the athletic department.

“Moving Chick-fil-A to the Union and granting it a role at the start of all home football games violates the feelings of safety and inclusion that so many of us have striven to create, foster, and protect on campus, and sends a message that the Union, KU Athletics, and the administration at large are more concerned about money and corporate sponsorship than the physical, emotional, and mental well being of marginalized and LGBTQ people.”

The council objects to the university relationship with Chick-fil-A because of the owner’s “history of supporting organizations that are hostile to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people, families, and communities,” the letter said.

The culture of Chick-fil-A fosters hate and discrimination on multiple levels. In short, Chick-fil-A on KU’s campus stands in direct contrast to the university’s mission of fostering a multicultural, inclusive environment.”

What. In. Tarnation.

A bastion of bigotry. If the presence of a fast-food place hurts your feelings, you need to grow up.

The faculty and students have tried for years to force the university to sever ties with Chick-fil-A. But in 2014, the university extended the contract until 2024.

The students and faculty complained the University of Kansas had put profit over concerns of those at the school. Chick-fil-A leases space within the school for $60,000 a year.

Did these people ever think that Chick-fil-A receives such prominence because it produces heavenly food with excellent service? You know, it sticks around because people enjoy the food? EVEN GAY PEOPLE.

This company that supposedly fosters hate and discrimination has done a lot for its communities. Just because it does not actively support or campaign for gay rights does not mean it discriminates against you.

I want these people to find me ONE time a Chick-fil-A restaurant discriminated against a gay person.

I mean, look at this hateful company! You know the chicken sandwich war erupted this past week. Well, in Greensboro, NC, a Chick-fil-A employee saw stressed out Popeyes employees run out of its new chicken sandwiches.

The hateful man gave the employees and some customers free sandwiches!! It turns out he has been friends with the Popeyes employees for a long time. They usually have breakfast at Chick-fil-A but haven’t been able to catch a break due to the demand for their sandwich.

A Chick-fil-A manager in Maryland rushed out to help a WWII veteran change his tire. The 96-year-old man came to the counter in tears, and Daryl Howard happily helped.

In Mississippi, a homeless man went to the counter at a Chick-fil-A with only $5. The woman behind the counter told the man that breakfast was on her and took his order.

Such an evil and depraved company!

The whole Faculty did this? Or was it “KU’s Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council” which is comprised of a few perpetually butthurt SJW agitating nitwits?

I’m thinking that Chick-fil-A needs to start suing cretins like this for libel. Otherwise they think that they can invent dung and accuse them of it and think they should be taken seriously.

icabod in reply to Paul. | August 30, 2019 at 6:44 pm

Yes, both of them were upset.

A few butthurt haters.
Yes, I will put profit over their feelings any day of the week.
Yes, I will put delicious chicken sandwich over their feelings any day of the year.

    Yes.

Kansas Chick-fil-A stores will now be busier than ever!!!!

If the Dem-crat Leftist Regressives were not so dumb,
we could almost believe it was a marketing campaign to promote more business at Chick-fil-A!!!!!!

Here’s a throwback to ancient times. If you don’t like it, don’t patronize it. See how easy it is??

Maybe investigate some of these faculty members and “activists” and see if their activities can withstand the same level of scrutiny as CF.
These idiots need a little pushback from the media.
I’m not holding my breath, waiting for that to happen.

As always, they want to exclude people in the name of inclusion. Orwellian.

They are liars. Nobody believes they feel “unsafe” by the firm’s presence. But I guess an administrator can’t really call them liars for expressing how they say they feel, even if what they are saying isn’t honest.

But an administrator could tell them their “feelings” are unreasonable. The administrator should suggest they see a shrink to help them get over their Chik-fil-A phobia and learn to tolerate people who don’t share their views about political issues like homosexual marriage.

I think I see what the problem is here: The fact the University has a Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council….

We need common sense administration control… Hey Hey, ho ho, KU’s Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council got to go!

I’m afraid there’s a higher concentration of bigots, racists, and sexual predators working in those offices than in the general population.

That’s my opinion based on my direct observations so I’m sticking to it!

And were that restaurant run by Muslims, exhibiting their values, they’d be falling all over themselves to partner up.

It’s 25 miles to my nearest Chick Fil A. However it’s located across the street from part of the UCLA med school. I have a couple of annual appointments with doctors and opthamologists there. I make it a point to eat at the Chick Fil A when or if my appointment time is near lunch. The sandwiches are good and the people are nice.
There are a lot of other restaurants that I could eat at–but it’s nice to give a sort of “up yours” to the haters.

Sometimes a chicken sandwich is just a chicken sandwich.

Sometimes a chicken sandwich is just a chicken sandwich.

But a Popeyes chicken sandwich is worth fighting for. 😛

That’s one sad school

As usual, in the current state of affairs, the only hate, bigotry and intolerance being exhibited is by by the SJW crowd at KU !

It’s whackademia. Nothing they do surprises me anymore.

My daughter is going to a premier media school and she gets a kick out of her SJW Liberal Leftist fellow students and their reaction to the opening of a Chick-Fil-A adjacent to their campus. The line is literally around the building every time I’ve gone there. Her friends joke about how they hate going there but the food is so good they can’t help themselves. I guess social justice (whatever that is) has its limits.

    notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to DanJ1. | August 30, 2019 at 12:55 pm

They can’t help going there because the food is so yummy?

Tell them it’s the secret sauce made with Leftist tears!

    LOL

“violates the feelings of safety and inclusion that so many of us have striven to create, …”

BUT if your “feelings of safety and inclusion” require the exclusion of others, and since “feelings” can’t even be objectively confirmed, it would seem this is actually a demand that you be able to exclude anyone or anything simply opon your say-so.

It would seem that if there are issues of “inclusion” then the problem is not Chik-Fil-A: it is you. For it is you who demand an apparently unlimited right to exclude whoever or whatever you wish to exclude, based entirely on your assertion of how you (or some hypothetical other) might “feel.”

As for “safety,” you’ve made no case at all that this or any other fast-food outlet threatens anyone’s safety. (Although eating too much of this type of food might impair your health, somehow I doubt this is what you meant.)

You seem somewhat like the Puritan who’s just outraged at the realization that someone, somewhere might be having fun. Yes, someone, somewhere disagrees with you and probably much of what you believe. But if the very existence of disagreement is threatening to you then, again, the problem seems to be … you.

As the left veers further left into post-progressive ideology (socialism), it is clear the energy is focused on two targets. Power. And symbols. When those two meet, they almost loose their minds with emotion and anger.

In this case, the chicken company substitutes for most if not every power structure they want to erode, from how corporate leadership is constructed (not that it is unusual) to establishing values not in line with the hard left (synonymous with academia). That is why they fight on symbolic levels, using empty hyperbole and not using facts or events.

Anybody who feels triggered or unsafe because of chicken sandwiches should remove themselves from the gene pool. Immediately.

As a lifelong Jayhawk basketball fan, whose father played there for Phog Allen, I really hate to do this to the eerie and famous chant that echos through Allen Fieldhouse at the end of victorious games….

I’m been long embarrassed that I matriculated at that institution.

Aw look its a poor man’s wanbabee of Oberlin/Gibsons. Only Chik Fil A has more money than the college. And the administrators haven’t quite jumped off the deep end yet.

The left really hates it when people have the right to choose (unless it’s abortion).

    n.n in reply to bw222. | August 30, 2019 at 2:25 pm

There is no one who is opposed to reproductive choice. Advocates and activists who claim the contrary are denying human and civil (before passage of the Twilight Amendment) rights, women and men’s faculty, and in debating in bad faith with straw clown arguments. The first choice: abstention, second: prevention, third: adoption, and fourth: compassion. However, a large minority and vast majority are in whole or in part opposed to the fifth choice or Pro-Choice, selective, opportunistic or wicked solution (e.g. selective-child, cruel and unusual punishment, summary judgment, age discrimination). That said, the right to keep and bear arms… legs, a head, and your life shall not be infringed. Certainly not for light and casual causes including the pursuit of wealth, pleasure, leisure, narcissistic indulgence, democratic leverage, and social progress.

Political congruence (“=”) and transgender spectrum (“rainbow”) is a bastion of bigotry and selective exclusion. The transgender/homosexual elite (i.e. transversal purists) are particularly homogeneous and jealously guard their [male “gay”] pride parades. Transphobia is a projected fear or loathing that transversal physical and/or mental attributes will be tolerated, but not perceived as normal.

We must be talking about some serious chicken haters at U of K.

Speaking of fostering hate….

I already throw away fundraising mail from the KU Endowment Association and the Journalism School. Is there such a thing as negative donations? There should be.

RCJH Class of 1977

If it wasn’t so dark, the comedy of these people’s hypocracy would be entertaining.

The ultimate leftists poisoners and their useful idiots.

Would you hire one of these dangerous morons as a private sector employer?

“KU’s Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council said in a letter…”

I think the headline should have read ‘faculty’, since these worthless excuses for academics aren’t faculty, the are alphabet people kommisars.

caseoftheblues | August 30, 2019 at 4:54 pm

And these EXACT same professors will bend over backwards to promote and protect Islam on campus which actually is a bastion of bigotry hate and violence towards gays

Memo for University of Kansas: If you want to boot someone off campus, give your protesting faculty members a swift kick in the their collective snowflake a**es.

Hey, do it for the children!

Notice the SJW (Social Justice Whiners) have demanded this of the administration. Had they any support from the students, then Chick Fil A would be boycotted, and quickly go out of business.
Remember that kid in school that always tattled to the teacher? The one that just wanted to make trouble? The unpopular one that nobody wanted around and you knew would come to no good end? He’s the one that grew up and is on the “Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council.”

“If the presence of a fast-food place hurts your feelings, you need to grow up.”

Bigly!

DouglasJBender | August 30, 2019 at 10:23 pm

Perhaps they feel that Chik-Fil-A might begin adding “Jayhawk Sandwiches” to their menu as a new and exotic item, and that makes them feel unsafe.

Has anybody looked in a faculty directory to see just how big this “council” is?

I’m guessing I tiny minority of faculty trying to overpower the vast majority with their feelings of being “unsafe”. That only works if you give them that power. The correct answer would be to point out to them the absurdity of their position and encourage them to get help.
