Climate Change Activists Disrupt UK Cities With ‘Summer Uprising’

Thousands of environmental activists caused five major British cities to “grind to a halt as Extinction Rebellion,”  a far-left group, as they protested climate change.

The members blocked traffic, occupied bridges, and disrupted businesses during their protest.

Climate change agitators targeted the financial district in the city of Leeds to “protest against the sector’s investment in fossil fuels,” the left-wing newspaper Guardian wrote. “Protesters locked themselves to the boats using metal tubes, and invited residents to join the group and enjoy their “car free city,” the left-wing daily added.

The climate protests called by Extinction Rebellion, a self-described “civil disobedience activist movement,” were described by the Guardian as “biggest act of civil disobedience in recent British history.”

The left-wing news website Buzzfeed praised the members of Extinction Rebellion for “putting their bodies on the line — laying down in front of cars, getting naked and gluing their bodies to windows.”

The news agency Reuters reported:

Civil disobedience group Extinction Rebellion staged protests in five British cities on Monday, aiming to renew pressure on the government to take bolder action to tackle climate change and slow the worldwide loss of plant and animal species. The movement, which shut down four sites in central London for 11 days in April, said the latest actions in London, Bristol, Leeds, Cardiff and Glasgow aimed to generate momentum ahead of another phase of disruption planned for October.“Right now we’re in a phase of movement building,” Larch Maxey, one of the movement’s organisers, said outside the Royal Courts of Justice in central London, where several hundred protesters blocked the road.“We’re going to be doing more disruption in October in major cities around the world,” Maxey told Reuters, standing near a sailboat emblazoned with the slogan ACT NOW, one of five brightly-painted vessels towed to protest sites in each city.Extinction Rebellion said the protests would run all week and include blocking specific locations, bridges and roads.

The agitators also staged ‘die-ins,’ a form of protest in which demonstrators pretend being dead, to decry fossil fuels and carbon emission. “People are dying right now of climate chaos,” an Extinction Rebellion member told The Guardian.

In reality, the panic created over the UK carbon footprint is unfounded. Britain has cut back emissions by around 44 percent since 1990. Prime Minister Theresa May’s government has pledged the make the country have “net zero” emissions by 2050, which would make the UK the first major Western country to commit to such a goal. The renewable resources account for almost 37 percent of the total electricity generation in the country.

These drastic measures have failed to appease the climate change activists who continue to demand radical ‘climate action.’ As Saikat Chakrabarti, the chief of staff to U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently told the Washington Post their “progressive” Green agenda “wasn’t originally a climate thing at all. We think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”

The activists mobilized by the climate change groups in the West are not well-meaning nature-lovers or conservationists. They seek to destroy the very fundamentals of the Western economy on which its freedom and prosperity rest.
