I live in a part of the country where liberal ideology is probably most common, and the NEW progressivism isn’t as accepted as it has become in really crazy places like CA. A couple of very good friends who have for years volunteered for non-profits supporting immigrants trying to get a step up (education, better employement, etc.) have stopped. They have frankly told me that it’s not worth the risk of being branded racist/fill-in-the-black-ist to them for simply not staying current with the full latest P.C. gibberish. One (a gay women) was corrected a couple of times for words she used relating to sexual preferences.
Madness when even lifelong classical liberals are also tuning out.
I’m in N. California and I see the same thing happening. Thoughtful liberals I know are starting to become very uncomfortable with the crazy left politics out here.
One friend who is now a strong Trump supporter says “I always thought of myself as a leftist. What has happened to the left? How did this happen?”. She hears things while getting her hair done that she can’t believe, but she feels that she has to keep her mouth shut or her small business will be hurt.
We have started referring to the all-conforming leftists who surround us as ‘pod-people,’ as in the movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. You must pretend to be one of them. If they sense you are not one of them, they emit a piercing scream, a mob gathers, and you are destroyed.
All they have is denigrating name calling. They have no popular policies or programs. i have to admit that hating Trump is very popular in some circles but they can’t prove any of their charges because they aren’t true.
The PC madness & the incessant “racist” catcalls have made me completely indifferent to this constant drumbeat of “America bad, Orange Man bad, all white people are racist, etc,” and I just don’t care anymore.
Lately on Twitter when someone says “Person of Color” or similar, I agree & say, “Glad to meetcha, I’m also a person of color- my color is white, and I’m all American!”
I live in California, I’m white, a male, old and therefore a racist. I should feel bad because I deserve it. But on second thought if I feel I’m a victim then I’m not a racist and everybody else is!

Point to keep in mind :
The left has a social / political status conferred by ‘how victimized / how oppressed’ they are.
They cannot tell themselves that they are oppressed UNLESS “you are a racist”.
