The last president resigned abruptly in April. The person who takes on this role will have their work cut out for them.

Hampshire College begins search for president

Financially struggling Hampshire College is seeking a new president, who would be the school’s fourth leader since last year.

The college hopes to have the new president in place by this summer, according to a Monday statement from board of trustees Chairman Luis Hernandez.

“We seek a president who can guide the process for restructuring and re-imagining the College, help direct our fundraising campaign, and assure our accreditors, donors, partners, and all our constituents of the College’s plans and resources for a long future,” Hernandez said.

Alumna Ellen Sturgis will chair the search committee, Hernadez said. Five other alumni and one member of the faculty were named to the search committee, and Hernandez will also serve on it. No current Hampshire College student was named to serve on the committee.
