Avengers: Endgame is a box office monster having grossed $357 million in its opening weekend. This shouldn’t be surprising given that the movie is the highly anticipated series finale for the 22 films in the Infinity Saga.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe clearly isn’t going anywhere (considering they already have Spiderman: Far from Home, The Eternals, Black Widow‘s solo movie and a half dozen other films in development) Avengers: Endgame is a solid finale to end the story arcs of the last eleven years of Marvel movies.
Unfortunately, it’s becoming clear that Marvel’s immediate plans will involve doubling down on a lot of politics that Marvel fans aren’t happy about. While politics in these movies aren’t new (See: Iron Man 3, Winter Soldier), the recent successes of Black Panther and Captain Marvel at the box office combined with some easter eggs in Avengers: Endgame suggest that Marvel Studios is about to embrace SJW Marvel.
SJW Marvel
SJW Marvel is the term that conservative and politically moderate comic book fans have given to the recent string of highly politicized comic books in the past decade of Marvel Comic’s output. Between the feminist Thor saga, the lighthearted romp of Daredevil’s San Fransisco adventures, the “Ask Me About My Feminist Agenda” Mockingbird cover, the Indonesian comic writer who fed anti-Semitic propaganda into his X-Men Comics, and the entire runs of Black Panther by The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates, the comics have become a veritable hive of far-left progressive assumption mongering.
The ugliest examples of this came in the recent run of Captain America comics led by Nick Spencer in which it was revealed that Red Skull was back as a villain again spouting Trumpian populist quotes. During his same run, he retconned (changed the history) of Steve Roger’s Captain America to reveal that he was secretly a Hydra (Nazi) double agent for decades. This was all following the period where Rogers handed over the title of Captain America to Falcon who proceeded to turn America’s best into progressive symbol dedicated to fighting what were essentially Tea Party terrorists.

What’s worrying about Avengers: Endgame is that there are several points in the film that suggest that going forward, the franchise is going to use its deep pockets and clout to start pushing more directly politically progressive messages in the films.
There are some people talking about the scene early on in the film where Captain America is talking to a gay man at a counseling session (played by the director Joe Russo) but this scene is either largely going ignored or getting criticized for being one of the only moments of LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU. People who want gay characters in these movies want more than this.
The more concerning moments come in the form of direct references to SJW Marvel moments. In the most eye-rolling moment of the film, every single female Avenger managed to find themselves on the same spot of the final battle scene at the exact same moment long enough for them to pose. This is a reference to the largely disregarded A-Force comics, comprised of an all-female Avengers lineup which Marvel seems to be suggesting might become a film in the future.
More concerningly, there are two references to Nick Spencer’s Captain America comics. The first comes when Steve Rogers whispers “Hail Hydra” into Frank Grillo’s ear followed by the final reveal of the film that Falcon is going to be inheriting the Captain America title.
We know for a fact that Disney hasn’t planned to do a Falcon and Winter Soldier series on their streaming service Disney+ sometime next year. It seems that what is likely going to happen is that they’re going to forgo shooting a fourth Captain America movie in favor of continuing this story on TV borrowing from Nick Spencer’s comics.
Combine this with their obvious plans to continue forward with progressively minded sequels to Black Panther and Captain Marvel, plus their reacquisition of James Gunn to direct more movies, and it seems that progressive movie fans are going to be very happy with the direction of these movies going forward.
