Joe Scarborough whatabouts media malfeasance in Trump-Russia collusion debacle

If you thought the perpetrators of this media crime would be contrite, self-reflective, or sorry, you would be wrong.

I took one for the team.

Monday morning, the first morning after the summary of the Mueller report was released, I watched CNN and Morning Joe on MSNBC. I did it again on Tuesday morning.

It was rough, like walking into an alternative universe where the inhabitants created their own narrative in which the media coverage of supposed Trump-Russia collusion was worthy of praise, or at least not criticism. I could only watch for a short time each morning. It was that unbearable.

Reality is that the media stoked, invented and promoted that false claim that Trump and the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians to interfere with the 2016 presidential election.

While there are many good chronicles of the media malfeasance, Matt Taibbi’s two columns are fairly comprehensive: It’s official: Russiagate is this generation’s WMD and As the Mueller Probe Ends, New Russiagate Myths Begin

The summary of the Mueller report, including quotations directly from the report, destroyed that media narrative:

… The report outlines the Russian effort to influence the election and documents crimes committed by persons associated with the Russian government in connection with those efforts. The report further explains that a primary consideration for the Special Counsel’s investigation was whether any Americans – including individuals associated with the Trump campaign – joined the Russian conspiracies to influence the election, which would be a federal crime. The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election. As the report states: “[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

It was not hard to see that this would be the outcome. While I strongly disagree with Glenn Greenwald on many issues, since he is far to the left, he has been spot on as to the malfeasance by the mainstream liberal media. This is Greenwald in October 2017:

And again last night when Greenwald discussed how he had been banned from MSNBC for not joining the Russia collusion narrative (transcript via Daily Caller):

“Let me just say, [MSNBC] should have their top host on primetime go before the cameras and hang their head in shame and apologize for lying to people for three straight years, exploiting their fears to great profit,” Greenwald began. “These are people who were on the verge of losing their jobs. The whole network was about to collapse. This whole scam saved them. Not only did they constantly feed people for three straight years total disinformation, they did it on purpose, Tucker.”

He continued, “There was a whole slew, not just me, of left-wing journalists with very high journalistic credentials, far more than anyone on that network, like Matt Taibbi and Jeremy Scahill and many others, including myself, who were banned from the network because they wanted their audience not to know that anybody was questioning or expressing skepticism about the lies and the scam they were selling because it was so profitable.”

“They did it on purpose. It was a total fraud that they perpetrated on their audience and to the extent that they talked about it at all, it was to call us agents of the Russian government to defame us as traitors and to lie about us continuously to their audience,” Greenwald concluded.

Getting back to the Morning Joe show this week. It was far worse than CNN. Switching channels was like going from bad to worse, from the frying pan into the fire. CNN is just dumb, Morning Joe is devious.

*In fairness* I only watched for a relatively short time. It’s possible that while I was not watching, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski got on their knees and begged the public for forgiveness for having participated and promoted on their show one of the worst political hoaxes in history.

But what I saw was a complete lack of self-reflection, portraying themselves and their media friends as the victims.

I didn’t see this specific clip, but it’s reflective of what I did see, Joe in attack mode (transcript via RCP):

Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough condemned President Trump and his allies in the media for criticizing the rest of the media’s coverage of Robert Mueller‘s investigation.

“I’d pose this question to everyone watching,” he said. “What would you have had the media do over the past two years when Donald Trump lied throughout the 2016 campaign about his contacts with Russia? Why would Donald Trump lie about Russia?”

“Maybe they should’ve just ignored the fact that the president called everybody around on Air Force One and concocted a lie,” he continued. “I just ask, what was the media supposed to do at that point? Shrug it off? You know the answer, and just because you’re sucking up to Donald Trump and just because power is all that matters to you, and just because you will justify everything that man does and just because you are corrupt, just because you’re not a journalist, just because you have sold your soul to a personality cult, don’t knock reporters at The New York Times or the Washington Post or The Wall Street Journal or the broadcast networks for doing their job right.”

“Save your breath, we’re not going to divert our eyes,” Scarborough vowed. “This president lies more than any other president in the United States… Damn the torpedos, full steam ahead, follow the story where it leads us.”

At best, Scarborough’s attack was whataboutism — but, but, Trump lies too! So does that excuse the hoax perpetrated 24/7 by MSNBC?

If you thought the perpetrators of this media crime would be contrite, self-reflective, or sorry, you would be wrong. They have learned nothing. To the contrary, many of them have learned the wrong lesson.

No, I grew up in the SF Bay Area. I know they’re all scum.

Hey Prof… I am wondering if sea sick pills would help get you through events like this.

Does he realize they just hit a torpedo?

I always have a small soft spot for Greenwald because I read his work when he was busy afflicting the Bush Administration (the latter one). He didn’t lose his principles when Obama came around, which was kind of impressive. Obama did not exactly come to bury the surveillance state, and Greenwald wrote against his administration, and in many ways was banished to the wilderness for it. He never changed; he’s still the hard-left flaming liberal he was before, others just swapped their principles in and out as the situation and the President demanded.

Therefore, he finds himself defending Trump against runaway surveillance powers employed by the DoJ/ FBI/ Special Counsel under the political oversight of… exactly no one, since the Attorney General recused and the threat of obstruction charges kept Trump from using his constitutional power over it any further for two very long years. Greenwald’s makeup simply doesn’t allow him to take the side of the surveillance state, even when it goes after a foe like Trump. Most in journalism must see him as some kind of mutant abomination for this flaw.

MSNBC is so pervasive and over the top with TDS that only a few moments of watching is needed. It’s like that non-stop. Much the same at CNN, which tries to hide its TDS by pretending it is being objective and faithful to the news. Which is worse?

You know they put that downward thumb to close to the reply button and it can’t be undone. MSNBC was dying in the ratings until they discovered Russia, Russia, Russia.

Following a story, pushing a story, what’s the diff?

    Making up a 100% Lie Story, what’s the difference…..
    They’re 100% like Hilary…….

We are awarding you a Croix de Guerre for going above and beyond the gallantry normally associated with a fellow warrior Prof.
We salute you for your valor, courage and utter disregard for your mental health in watching Mooning Joe. Er, morning joe.

Anti-psychotic meds could work… how do you spell relief.. “H..A..L..D..O..L” otherwise know as Vitamin H. Terrible side effects and anyway MSNBC needs the doses more than you.

What a thankless job, subjecting one’s self to the inane prattle of these Leftist, water-carrying media propagandists.

Thank you for doing the dirty work, Professor, so that we don’t have to.

I 2nd that thought…thanking Prof. J. for doing the dirty deed of finding within himself to listen to the drivel coming out of those who are doubling down on their righteousness of condemnation to the finding of the Mueller Report and to share his confirmation of the cabal of Never Trumpers on Cable and MSM which they all are party to. It actually makes me feel ill to hear how demented these people have become.

“… I watched CNN and Morning Joe on MSNBC. I did it again on Tuesday morning.”

We’re all sorry. Are you writing from the psychologists office? 🙂

Fuzzy, Leslie, Kemberlee, Mary, Mike, et al … if the Professor watches CNN again, please hold an intervention. 😀

Professor Jacobson, have a few cold root beers and a good, hot pizza. Doing so will help clear your heart and mind of the mental sludge-fest you endured in watching CNN and Mourning Joe. I would recommend a large sausage, green pepper, pepperoni, and onion pizza from Volcano’s Pizza in Elkhart, Indiana…but I imagine that is a bit of a drive for you. So, when I have the chance, I will drink some root beers and eat a Volcano’s Pizza on your behalf. You’re welcome.

The Trump Curse will get that schmoe. Just like it got Avenetti.

Mr. Irrelevant and his idiot wife.

Trump lies…unlike, say, the sainted Obama, who never lied, right?

Not about Obamacare, or, the vanity-driven, naive and farcical Iran capitulation “deal,” or, “Fast and Furious,” or, learning about crone Hillary’s private e-mail address and server from CNN (when, in actuality, he had been communicating with her, through it); or, a million other things.

Obama lied more than Trump, about matters of greater significance to the people, and, breezily and arrogantly so.

I’ve calling hospitals all night. I’m sure that Rags is on suicide watch somewhere.

I guess it’s good news for the Republicans that the Media didn’t learn anything and isn’t going to change it’s behavior.

But it’s bad for America and bad for the two party system. We have many more sad and dangerous days to come…

While the MSM is going to Hell in a hand basket, we’ve been growing a whole, new media.

Social media needs to be brought under common carrier rules, and the fake big shots at banks need to be re-taught about redlining, this time based on political leanings instead of skin color.

It’s doable.

Unethical behavior, but not by the voters.

Project Veritas has found the election fraud I’ve been worrying about. People who have moved being used as a vehicle for votes by unethical party members. It does not seem to matter whether they sent in a change of registration, or not.

This may be why California politicians are so eager for illegal aliens to move in. They can be voted very conveniently, without protest.

I figure I need to put together dossiers on each of the major Democrats, starting with Jerry Nadler, who has had past collusion with Dairy Queen.

Forced yourself to watch CNN and MSNBC??

I sometimes gladly watch them. For laughs.
