Media fabricated narrative about conservatives mocking Ocasio-Cortez dance video

Media fabricated narrative about conservatives mocking Ocasio-Cortez dance video

Another example of how a dishonest media manipulates political perceptions and narratives. Multiply it by a thousand times a year, year after year, and you understand the liberal privilege in this country.

Did you hear the one about Republicans trying to shame Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over her college dance video, and being angry about it?

That claim echoed through many mainstream media outlets late last week into the weekend. But it was a media fabrication, Fake News in the worst, most devious way intended to shape public perception. Multiply this incident by thousands of times, and you can understand how manipulative mainstream media is, and how major news outlets are able to frame a narrative of evil, mean Republicans that influences our politics, particularly among younger people.

I first learned of the video when I saw tweets about the supposed shaming and anger.

I’m pretty sure, but not positive, that it was a Newsweek article I first saw being circulated:

Shortly before the 29-year-old became the youngest congressman ever sworn in to office, several conservative Twitter feeds shared a video of her dancing on a rooftop. The video, featuring her dancing to Phoenix’s “Lisztomania” in an apparent homage to The Breakfast Club, appeared to be taken from Ocasio-Cortez’s time at Boston University.

One Twitter user, whose handle referenced the QAnon conspiracy theory popular among supporters of President Donald Trump, tweeted the video with the accompanying insult: “Here is “America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is…High School video of “Sandy” Ocasio-Cortez.”

But I didn’t understand what it was all about, because I had not seen anyone trying to shame Ocasio-Cortez about a video, or expressing anger about it. No one.

So I started to look into it and found the video linked. It’s a fun video from when Ocasio-Cortez was in college, and it’s a take off — apparently — on a scene from the movie The Breakfast Club.

It’s a fun video. Why would Republicans try to shame her with it, and why would they be angry about it?

They weren’t.

But that’s not how the media played it. Newsbusters documents how the NY Times, in an article which appears to have been revised recently, originally put this in the context of “right-wing” efforts against Ocasio-Cortez:

The dance video — a mash-up of 1980s dance moves from the movie “The Breakfast Club” and the music of “Lisztomania,” by the French band Phoenix — proved to be too endearing to many social media users. Some also saw a right-wing effort to undermine Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, a liberal Democrat known as “AOC” among her fans.

Since Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described Puerto Rican “girl from the Bronx,” was elected in New York in November, she has been a target of conservatives and far-right groups. She won political notice after jolting the Democratic establishment by defeating an incumbent congressman to win the primary for New York’s 14th Congressional District in a virtual landslide in June.

It all started with a single anonymous Twitter account. One account. Anonymous. So anonymous that part of username was “Anonymous”.

Dave Rubin tweeted:

I try not to tweet on the weekend but this is on point and important. The story was completely made up. Fake News for all to see. (Also often controversies are started by anonymous accounts that are actually left wing journalists. I’m guessing that’ll be exposed more this year.)

Benny Johnson posted on Twitter how the anonymous account in the Newsweek article appears to be the only source cited by numerous media outlets that ran with the story:

He linked to Benny Johnson’s documentation of how the false claim spread in the media:

Can anyone on the internet find me a *single* human Republican (not an anonymous bot account) that was offended by AOC dancing.

This should not be hard, right?

This “scandal” was covered in Washington Post, New York Times, CNN, Reuters etc

So where’s the evidence?

* * *

Where is the evidence that *any* Republican was offended?

Where is the evidence that *any* Republican shamed her?

Where is the fact-check on this by the “Democracy Dies in Darkness” crowd?

These outlets are legitimately running fake stories to own the cons for AOC

* * *

It’s been remarkable the last few years to observe the beehive group-think mentality of the media on stories like this, Mueller, Russia, Trump, 2016.

No evidence. No facts. Just propaganda for the left, nicely packaged.

1. Create an imaginary monster
2. Slay imaginary monster

Here are images of some of the headlines Johnson posted. While the headlines themselves don’t mention the GOP or conservatives or Republicans, that was the narrative set by Newsweek and social media based on a single anonymous Twitter account:

NowThisNews, a liberal group that produces viral social media content, asked:

Conservatives tried to shame Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by surfacing a video of her dancing in college — it backfired spectacularly

Ocasio-Cortez posted a short dance clip with her at the House office that has been shared over 150,000 times and liked almost 800,000 times:

I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous.

Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too! ????????

Have a great weekend everyone 🙂

This was a media invented fabrication.

But now it’s part of the political landscape. Here’s how an author at the L.A. Times plays it, Right-wing blowhards are having a tough time with this whole women-in-power thing in Congress:

Having calculated that savaging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wasn’t firing up the he-man pitchfork crowd as much as they had hoped, conservatives are now trying to smear Ocasio-Cortez as young, dangerous, naive, stylish and a good dancer. They also seem unaccountably panicked that she was once known as Sandy.

To many of the attacks, Ocasio-Cortez has issued Twitter clap-backs that deftly surface the barely concealed sexism of her detractors. When conservatives this week tried to make hay out of a dance video she made in college, she made another dance video, chiding the GOP as prigs who hate women who dance.

Like that fabrication that Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her backyard, the media has created an alternative reality that becomes political truth.

In isolation, the Fake News about Ocasio-Cortez’s dance video doesn’t make a difference. But it’s not in isolation. It’s an example of how a dishonest media manipulates political perceptions and narratives. Multiply it by a thousand times a year, year after year, and you understand the liberal privilege in this country.

I am only plugged into the net via websites…….no social media at all. I also watch no TV news and read no print newspapers. Have a host of left and right sites I hit on a regular basis. Fake news is everywhere. It’s time to unplug as much as possible to preserve your own sanity.

^ That, except I don’t bother with leftist websites. Their drivel will eventually be covered by the non-partisan and Conservative sites I do visit.

You can be cute in a college dance video and wrong politics and social policy. Why is this hard to understand?

Wrong on politics…

The trollop is a fitting recommendation for Boston University and for vacuous degrees in economics.

Stop giving her any press for God’s sakes

She has done nothing of merit outside of beating a sitting Congressman that apparently paid no attention to his district.

She was a bartender

Give the insufferable twit credit where it’s due.

For one thing, she’s knocked that little pustule David Hogg off the front pages.

    For another, well . . . I can’t think of another.

They could have put Stalin’s corpse on the ballot in that district and he would have won. It’s really not a big deal that a wild-eyed, semi-incoherent lefty would win an election there.

DINORightMarie in reply to gonzotx. | January 7, 2019 at 1:31 am

….that is the whole point of this article by the Professor.

The MEDIA are giving her all this press TO SHAPE THEIR NARRATIVE. And the message: evil, women-hating, people-of-color hating, old-farts full of hate for the young, etc. etc. etc. – i.e. the REPUBLICANS, are EEEVVVVIIIILLLLLLLL people who HATE WOMEN WHO DANCE, HATE college kids who dance, HATE women, HATE people of color, HATE college kids, hate, Hate HATE!! Oh, and in case you missed it: the Republicans are evil HATERS FILLED WITH HATE!

Create the narrative (propaganda message); control the narrative; repeat. Alinsky tactics.

We are not “giving her press.” The media is, with a very blatant agenda, which the Professor outlines perfectly.

Yeah, that was my second reaction. My first was, Occasional Cortex made a video? I just don’t pay that much attention to her. My second reaction, which I take is yours as well, is who cares?I

If there was an election for a stripper and my only other choice was Nancy Pelosi I’d probably vote for her. If she was a stripper I could mindlessly stare at her and listen to her bull**** about economics and not care. Because, well, she’s naked.

I guess I’m going to have to keep digging this hole deeper. There are a great many women I have a great deal of respect for. But, ladies. the reason you and I exist is because at some point your dad objectified your mom. And I am perfectly capable of objectifying a woman.

Arminius in reply to Arminius. | January 7, 2019 at 11:03 am

I realize this could come across as obnoxious, perhaps even insulting. But I served with women. Women are such delicate objects. In fact, a woman saved my life.

      Really, I like women.

ecclestonsangel in reply to gonzotx. | January 7, 2019 at 12:29 pm

And not a very good one at that if her current stupidity is anything to go by. IDK where these idiots got off thinking we were “offended” by her stupid video to begin with. My first thought whie I was reading about it was, “Who cares?!?”

guyjones in reply to gonzotx. | January 7, 2019 at 4:47 pm

Come on — it’s hard to learn how to make the perfect martini. 😉

Seriously — no disrespect intended toward hard-working mixologists, and, acknowledging that cocktail culture is cool, and, that liquor and wine sales make up the bulk of most restaurants’ revenue — if you are a 26-year-old running for political office, I expect you to be a professional prodigy and to have accomplished Thomas Edison/Andrew Carnegie/Steve Jobs-like private sector professional accomplishment in your scant professional life, before being remotely worthy of consideration.

Occasional-Cortex is a joke — in the private sector, she was a nobody and accomplished nothing of substance — now that she’s in government, she deserves to be paid attention, and, taken seriously? Absurd.

Liberal privilege. Something tells me that’s a hashtag that will never go viral.

Conservatives are bad people and those on the Left know it. No need to back up a story with facts as long as the story smears conservatives.
I’m approaching a tipping point and I’m not sure what I am going to do when I tip. Probably join with my fellow church members in witnessing to the lost (that is our emphasis to start the year), because the lost seem to be more lost than they’ve ever been.

I’m so old I can remember Patty Murray lying about a politician saying “you’re just a mom in tennis shoes- you can’t change anything”. And she’s been a fixture of the swamp ever since.

Anyone ever heard of a pet rock? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has about as much appeal that that rock in the box.

This is becoming a common occurrence in today’s society, especially with the growth of social media. Sometimes the story is totally fabricated and other times it is written in such a way as to support a narrative, agenda or point of view, without presenting adequate supporting evidence. It is incumbent upon everyone to investigate virtually every story no matter what the source. No source can be totally relied upon to be accurate. Everything has to be considered propaganda, until it is proven to be true and accurate.

Way too much attention given to this deluded girl (a girl is all she is.)

The psychos we have to worry about are the openly bigoted Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib: they represent the beginning of a civil war.

Alexandria Ocasional-Cortex does a fair presentation of mocking herself with her oft times lack of cogent utterances, that in her world passes as speech. Can one imagine if she didn’t indeed have her degree

Given the anonymous source, I am fairly certain it was a set up, it was done to give Occluded Cortex a means of distraction from her voting for Pelosi as Speaker. And to push the narrative of hate for women.

Personally, I saw the video and thought the others in it danced better than she did, but meh. Who cared? I am sure a leftist pushed this with the media planning it as an orchestrated attack on those who oppose the National Socialists. No one would think that lame and overly long video would shame AOC. No one.

Like far too often these days, it is an attack on Republicans and those on the right without basis, and more likely a set up story with no basis in fact. Doesn’t matter to them, it’s the Goebbels principle which the National Socialists have been using for a long time.

This story with the Reuters headline sat on the front page of for 4 days. Most stories don’t last longer than a few hours to 1 day. I watched the video and thought who could be offended by this and quickly came to the same conclusion as the Prof… the whole thing was made up to paint conservatives in a poor light… again..

buckeyeminuteman | January 7, 2019 at 10:13 am

“Not easily offended” certainly is not a hallmark of the Left.

And everyone who believes this was sent by a Republican please stand on your head and play the piano. The old hoax is a democrat specialty these days.

I’m laughing at her. And not in a “funny” way. The left takes the very mediocre and does everything in its power to portray it as excellence to the opiated masses – which is further amplified by their media slaves. False is true in the service of that god. Sorry, but that sh!t sandwich still tastes like one.

Has any politician since Obama, in the run-up to his first campaign for President, been so utterly overexposed, unduly canonized and nauseatingly sanctified, by the water-carrying media sycophants, as this twit? Receiving adulation and veneration that is so laughably out-of-proportion to her utterly embarrassing, non-existent record of substantive private sector professional accomplishment. And, accentuating everything with her inimitable, self-aggrandizing, dumb-as-rocks utterances, presented as alleged sagacity.

Decidedly unhealthy infantile egotism and a need for constant attention/veneration are now the defining personality traits amongst most of the Democrat apparatchik politicians.

Clearly “Anonymous” works at Newsweek. Part of the scheme from the start.

The Progressive media and Progressive fascism machine would like nothing better than to make “proles” as the only existence suitable for conservatives (Ref. 1984).

Personally, I think she looks great with her hair down.

I like more challenging women.

Yeah with heroo hair down she looks, good.

She’s cute. That said, on what principle can a critique by an anonymous poster of her dancing be linked to American conservatives? Perhaps another “penumbra” in The Constitution that was previously undetected. Also, “right-wing”, libertarian, really?

The Packetman | January 7, 2019 at 4:48 pm

Ace noticed this 3 days ago …

And commented how stereotypical these ‘conservatives’ seem to be:

A twitter account with the suspiciously on-the-nose name “QAnon1776” — way to hit every single fringe/conservative meme there! — was suddenly birthed and was soon suddenly deleted. During its brief life, however, it managed to “break” the news that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex once did a Breakfast Club dance in “high school.”

He also didn’t link the video because …

I would have linked it myself except for the fact that it shows Ocasio-Cortez in a more appealing and more juglightful light than I’m used to seeing her, and I reasoned that her big jugs and frisky attitude and also her big jugs would tend to make people like her more.

Sadly, I’d already seen the important part. Well, both important parts …

She wants to be Sandyclaus. As long as we pay and she lives large.

Man am I good or what? Posted this Jan 5th in the

You’ll have to add the https:// to the front of the above to see aoc’s response to the fake outrage

(and probable false flag by her own team)

about her “dance” video. She does another, shorter version of a dance and rips the repubs.
And I’ll bet her generation is loving it.

Still doesn’t show when I try to add the entire link for unknown to me reasons.
I’m beginning to suspect the left is doing a lot of false flag crap, the Alabama false flag to help Jones – supposedly learned from the russians – wasn’t even close to being the first time they’ve pulled this kind of stunt.

One person cracks a joke on Twitter = EVERYONE WAS OFFENDED!
Welcome to reporting in the social media age.

You call that dancing??

She’s really adorable. Maybe one day when she grows up, she’ll have some sensible ideas and become more conservative.

This whole thing sounds manufactured, like another Journolist type thing where they said, “Hey, let’s put her in a video showing her sexy side and circulate a story that Republicans are offended. Let’s get all the media on board with that storyline. It will be like that movie Footloose.”

I see no reason at all why anyone would be offended by college kids making a dance video. I seriously doubt any conservative was offended or would even try to shame anyone over that. It is clearly more fake news and another nail in the coffin of the MSM.
