Remember the old days when students would just study the work of a writer like Milton?

The College Fix reports:

University will host ‘Queer Milton’ event

The City University of New York will host an event next semester focusing on queer interpretations of the works of the poet John Milton, the celebrated English writer most famous for the epic poem Paradise Lost.

The event, “Queer Milton,” is a “book launch and roundtable celebrat[ing] the release of the landmark collection Queer Milton, an overdue intervention in the field of Milton criticism.”

“A glittering assemblage of the volume’s contributors will discuss their essays, with topics ranging over gender and sexuality, ecocriticism, and biopolitics. They will also point to paths not yet taken, to queer Miltons waiting to be explored,” the event description states.

The book “Queer Milton,” listed on the website of publisher Palgrave Macmillan for nearly $100, is described as “the first book-lengthstudy dedicated to anti-heteronormative approaches to the poetry and prose of John Milton.” The book uses “radical queer interpretive frameworks” to study Milton’s works.
